View Full Version : Latest WM main event rumor (concerning the triple threat match)

I read off of prowrestling.com that the main event between Benoit/Michaels/HHH is now going to be a ladder match. I for one am excited about this but am already anticipating the internet marks to get pissy about it. But if Benoit wins the ladder match it will not destroy his credibility like pinning Shawn would instead of HHH. It will simply mean he will beat 2 of the best ever in a ladder match.
Your thoughts?

Eh
I don't know if HBK and HHH are going to be able to pull out an exciting ladder match but who knows.
At least this way Benoit can win the title without it being tainted (ie a pin over Michaels)

Yeah but CyNick and myself said it so obviously nobody listened.
LOL this reminds me of that video someone made in the "for all you captioneers..(humor)" thread about HHH not wanting to get pinned so they have to make it a ladder match.

I hate it for the simple reason that if Benoit does win the title in a ladder match then they're just going to use that to make him look like he can only win titles in gimmick matches and not by beating Triple H or HBK clean.

What? Did you honestly expect that the Clique would ever do something to put someone over who's not one of them?

Its humourous how often this happens.
About the match:
It might be good, but I dont think its a good idea.
On top of the 'Benoit wont have to pin either guy to win' theory, which is legit. I also think adding the ladder might make the crowd apathetic towards Benoit winning. With the ladder, they will obviously play up the fact that it has been 10 years since the Hall-Michaels match at MSG. With that in mind, people might expect that HBK will beat the odds and win the title. However, if and when Benoit wins, the fans may be happy about, but seem disappointed because HBK didn't win 'his' match.
On top of that, HBK's story of overcoming the odds takes away from Benoit's similar story of beating the odds to finally win the big one. It could split the fans, and like I said, Benoit's win will seem less of a big deal.
Then there is the problem of the work in the match. People have seen too many ladder matches in the past 4 and half years, and I think its difficult for a has been, a guy with a bad back and a guy who has had neck surgery to live up to those expectations. Beyond that, its just risky, especially for Benoit. What if he takes some stupid bump off a ladder and re-injures his neck? I dont know, it just doesn't seem worth it.

I'm not in favor of the single fall triple threats. If they do make it a triple threat at least make it the 3-way dance eliminations like ECW did. That way it would be awesome if someone eliminated HHH, leaving HBK vs. Benoit for the title.

I was joking around with a friend of mine, stating that Benoit will be a foot note in the HBK/HHH feud by the end of the month. Only thing is, I was sort of serious at the time. I see no reason for there to be a third party, much less a piece of Furniture. I doubt more and more that, if there is no ladder, someone will be pinned, and it will Benoit. And if the match is seen as lackluster in any way, shape, or form, it will be blamed on Benoit. How long until the walking the dog joke isn't a joke?
I hate to be so... Cynical *quick Doctor Evil pose*, but the fact is, I feel that your concerns and mine will be answered in a way that the fans will NOT care to see. Damn Clique... :nono:
The Tragedy is as such: The WWE has so much potential for this to be a great card, and it's almost as if they're TRYING to make it suck.

I think a three way dance would be good instead of a triple threat. I'm suprised the WWE hasn't done that yet when all the other companies did.

True enough
Although, I dont think the Ladder Match will be bad, but it wont be as good as some Ladder Matches hat we've seen in the recent past, like RVD-Christian, RVD-Guerrero or the TLC matches. So, when a gimmick match fails to live up to the previous standards people will say "meh that wasn't that good", which is sad, but true. And then, if Benoit and HBK (I dont see HHH taking too many huge risks) try to do something spectacular well then they are risking their health, and I'd rather those guys in 100 regular wrestling matches then 1 Ladder Match. I just hope they dont get hurt trying to live up to the hype.
I think the overall card will be really good, I mean nothing has been finalized, but i have a good idea about 80% of the card, and what Ive seen could make it one of the best PPVs the WWE has ever produced, but its just the booking that is designed to protect HBK and HHH at the expense of Benoit that really upsets me.

I don't think that HBK or Benoit would want to pull off some high risk moves off the ladder since the've had serious back and neck injuries in the past.

You don't have to, which is one thing triple threat matches leave out. Near falls make a match exciting. Also I remember the 3-way dance between Taz/Tanaka/Awesome when Tanaka and Awesome got rid of Taz pretty quickly so they could focus on each other.
If the 3 way dance happened, It be great to see HBK and HHH team up at first, then HBK turning on HHH and allowing Benoit to hook in the crossface out of nowhere. HHH looks to HBK for help....but he doesn't. HHH taps out and HBK and Benoit are left.

I would be fine with an elimination match, because at leats that way Benoit would have to pin/subit at leats one of the guys to win the match.
Damn, I'm REALLY liking the idea of an elimination match now. Even if Triple-H loses to Michaels who then loses to Benoit.

I really don't see the problem, last mania there wan't any stipulation matches (proper stips not like 2 on 1 or street fights) i mean ladders, tables, last men standing type stuff.
As far as the ladder match goes, i like the idea, all 3 men have been in great ladder matches in the past and then none of the cliq has to job, thus setting up the HHH rematch at backlash (which benoit should also win as it's in canada) then HHH goes to hollywood and Benoit can fued with Booker for a while and HBK can ummmmm Fued with someone else
And i doubt that HHH/HBK/Beniot will get the top main event spot anyway, i think that's gonna be a great one on one between Eddie and Angle based on what Wrestlemania is all about, decent wrestling or at least i hope.

you know, I guess you're right, HHH would have to JOB, geez, I hadn't considered that......or did I?
Any sort of gimmick match where the loser doesn't have to tap out/be pinned is a horrible idea for WMXX.
The elimination match is the best way to go, but it's unlikely.

Triple H should do the f'n job for once to someone other than HBK & Goldberg. It would establish Chris Benoit as the f'n man around here if he beat Triple H cleanly 1...2...3 in the middle of the ring in the main event at Wrestle Mania XX.
If Benoit wins the title in any other fashion that doesn't involve Triple H laying flat on his back or tapping out then I'll be mighty pissed.
