I was just watching some of my old NWA tapes, and it got me thinking about how there were so many hige names in the 80s, so many of them legends, then I looked at today, and I think there is maybe 5 guys that will be remembered in 20 years.

Do you think that it is nostalgia or the product being so shitty?

I mean, today they struggle to find new world champions,

in the 80s there were countless guys that could have made a run but never got the chance!

Am I crazy? Or is it just that sad these days?

Name one guy in the WWE that should have had at least one title run (realistically) but never got one? and dont say Val, because he never was a draw.

NWA? WWF? I can name so Many

Magnum TA, Tully "The Greatest ever" Blanchard, Orndoff, Hennig, Rude, Piper, Anderson, Koloff and so forth.

So the point is this, in 20 years do you think the WWE as it is now will be looked at like the NWA is? Or will this be a forgotten age (IE WWF Wrestlmania 9-11)

I think most of those guys from the NWA are already forgotten. Most casual fans probably couldn't tell you who Brian Pillman is, or Ricky Steamboat. It's a shame, but NWA just wasn't as big as WWF. Ric Flair was nowhere near as big as Hogan, it sucks but its true.

Casual Wrestling fans are more intune with wrestling history than most would think.

Ric Flair is over based on the 80s, and most WWE fans werent old enough to even watch him then.

They know Jimmy Snuka when he comes on TV and cheer him, hell, they pop for harley race and the Von Erichs. They know who these guys are, because they are "Legends".

Do you think in 20 years they will have Edge on TV with the fans cheering....I just dont see that.

Even mid carders in the 80s will have a better legacy than todays main eventers (For the most part)

If Jim Duggan can pull off a pop, Edge could.

:nono:
They know what they see on tv. I don't think TNA has talked about the history of wrestling that much, and since WWE is the big dog in the yard, we see what WWE wants us to see.

You ask a casual fan how PT Barnum made a lasting impact on the wrestling world and they won't know. That's a vital part in the history of the showmanship. Ask them to name ONE member of the Goldust Trio. The roads they paved are still traveled today. Hell, ask them how long the last Gotch/Hackinshmit match lasted. And while we're at it ask a casual fan if s/he knows the name Dave Meltzer.

I'm not talking down casual fans, as long as they say they are casual fans. If a casual fan says they know a lot I'll just tell them that they aren't even at CC's level. No where near CC! There's so much to learn, so much to read about the history of what was once a legit sport.
Casual fans only watch it, and if they're good listeners they can pick up a thing or two (but some of them might think that an unprettier is really a rock bottom). When they go out of their way to learn about the history of wrestling, that's when they can talk about the history.
I don't know everything and I've been a wrestling fan for over 20 years (kinda sad since I'm turning 23 next week), but I love to learn about it.

FFS, stop mentioning my name. YOU FUCKED UP IN YOUR POST JUST NOW! You type the "Goldust trio". FOR FUCK SAKE, IT IS THE GOLD DUST TRIO. I read your post wrong in the other thread but don't say it's my fault this time because you FUCKED UP. (If this goes in the spaz thread, legal action will result.)

Wouldn't Rock, Austin, HHH, Taker, Angle, and Cena sort of qualify?

Rock, Austin, Taker yes...that era is over and fans reflect on what they did in the ring and for Wrestling

Cena is still too new to the industry and Trips I believe dosen't want to realize that fact that his time might be coming
