TNA President Promises Major Announcement
By Ryan Gray on September 19, 2006 at 9:53 AM EST
TNA President, Dixie Carter has posted a message on TNA’s official website promising a major announcement and this Sunday’s No Surrender PPV:
"In the course of history, there are defining moments that change the fabric of a company forever. These are moments that are spoken about for years, not days, and serve as benchmarks in the annals of a company’s growth. And on occasion, those moments transcend the individual company and re-write the history of an industry. This Sunday at the NO SURRENDER PPV, an announcement will be made that will do just that. You will not want to miss the NO SURRENDER PPV."

I'm not buying the PPV but what do you suppose the news is? I'm betting it is a time slot against one of the WWE's shows or maybe going to 2 hour shows.
Or maybe its TNA's chance to bring to light that Jeff Jarrett's plan is to hold onto the NWA title until the year 2016.

Probably a two hour time slot. Possibly Goldberg hype.

Those are the exact things that came to my mind, too. If it turns out to be Goldberg hype, it will be a major letdown. But then again, this is TNA we're talking about.

Wow, I didn't even consider the two-hour timeslot. That would be good. The first thing that popped into my head was "Goldberg", followed by "Bob Sapp", followed by "Kurt Angle". A combination announcement would be great. Just march out Angle, Goldberg and Sapp, and let them have a three-way stare-down in the ring. Then have Dixie Carter announce the timeslot, then have Samoa Joe choke-out Jarrett in the main event.

Last two times they had an announcement, it was Christian and Sting respectively. I can see Goldberg since Spike would help out with his salary, so I'm banking on that or the 2 hour time slot.

I doubt they'd ask him to wrestle. Probably more of a "Championship Committee" type thing. Maybe bring him back as a manager, or something? He's too big a name for TNA to not at least try to get. He really should have a few matches left in him down the line. Let him begin to set up storylines with guys by playing Christian's new manager. The guy's interactions with Eric Young, Kevin Nash and Alex Shelley backstage would be worth bringing him in, alone.

WWE probably knew this would happen; they just didn't care.
If this weren't a business where people would shank their own mama for a push, I'd be pissed. But I'd have to be pissed at a lot of people for a lot of things if I was pissed at Angle.
Besides, the lighter schedule might be fine for him.

They would pull in their best ratings. Also who cares if youg et destoryed it would get your product notice which would be good in the long term.
Of course if they keep putting out the shows they have been doing for a month then there might maybe your right.

Almost double there current ratings......why? Because they are up against competition? Thats not what got WCW over. Contreversy, stealling star, etc. Things TNA really doesn't have the cash to pull off. Not the fact they were opposite of the WWF.
TerranRich
09-20-2006, 01:24 PM
Okay, here's how I see it. WCW, pre-Nitro, was barely on the map. Once they got Nitro, they didn't do much of anything until they broke out with the nWo stuff, etc. I see TNA now as WCW was back in 1993 or so. Not many big stars, but having the potential to become big. TNA was never huge, so they could very easily become huge. If they bothered trying.

Because they are on a wrestling night in America. Why all of us are watching RAW we are going to switch to TNA. Probably 98% are going to deny it but we all will. All the smart fans are going to turn on TNA.
It would happen.
Destor
09-20-2006, 01:35 PM
It didn't work for WCW, I don't see why it would for TNA. These alleged "smart fans" (I would debate the opposite) only equal into a .9 rating. Thats TNA's current audience. The casuals (the VAST majority of the audience) are not going to tune in just because there are two wrestling shows on at the same time. That deduction makes no sense. Being on opposite of WWF didn't help WCW, and It's not going to help TNA either legend.
McLegend
09-20-2006, 02:16 PM
What you mean didn't help WCW? WCW beat WWE for 84 consecutive weeks. WCW just didn't have a good long term plan. If WCW was never on Monday night they wouldn't have gotten has big
But see I think there's more then .9 smart fans out there who know about TNA, but see people don't turn into now, becasue they don't go out of there way to see it. Now if it's on Monday night and they are already watching wrestling then what is gonna stop from turning on Impact?
Also I completly Disargee with you about people not turning on wrestling just because there's another wrestling show. People will tune into another wrestling show, because they can. It's nature of a wrestling fan.

Though ratings were poor early on, WCW Nitro improved in mid-1996 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996_in_television) and went on to draw better ratings than the WWF for 84 continuous weeks.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WCW_Monday_Nitro
From 93-96 ratings were poor. Until when? The NWO. I.E. a good angle, not the fact they were opposite competition. Saying that being opposite of the WWE is helpful, is stupid. Creative and controversial ideas got them over, not their time slot.
WCW just didn't have a good long term plan. If WCW was never on Monday night they wouldn't have gotten has bigMaybe, or maybe they'd still be around, who's to say?
But see I think there's more then .9 smart fans out there who know about TNA, but see people don't turn into now, because they don't go out of there way to see it. They wont go out of their way when there's nothing else on to watch, but they are going to when there IS something else on? Doesn't make much sense.
Also I completly Disargee with you about people not turning on wrestling just because there's another wrestling show. People will tune into another wrestling show, because they can. It's nature of a wrestling fan.Facts are against you here. 3 years of Nitro getting shit made them try something different, and it got over and put them on the map. NOT THEIR TIME SLOT.
TNA needs to get some moderate success with current time slot before they try and swim in the deep end. Their loyal "smart" fans works as decent floaties, but under the weight of the WWE giant they wont last. WWF has made a fortune of putting wrestling companies out of business over the past 50 years, lets at least give TNA a fighting chance before you feed them to the dogs.

First off I suck at breaking quotes here and way too much work for me to do that.
Now those poor ratings had to be a high 1's low 2's. That's huge for TNA.
Now see people aren't tuning into see them on Thursday because there is other stuff on besides wrestling that they watch, and they are not breaking their schdules. Monday is wrestling night and almost every wrestling fan is watching wrestling then.
Now you say they should establish themselves on another night guess what I argee, but if you want ratings right away then Monday is the only place to go.
Like I said a Monday Time slot would be the only thing that could live up to this annnocument. Maybe Goldberg signing could live up to it.

1)Huge for TNA is a good Sunday Night Heat for the WWE, are they really ready for them head-to-head?
2)While every wrestling fan is watching Monday, they are watching RAW, are the going to break their schedule for a lackluster show?
3)Do you want ratings right away (although I don't think they will get them,) or do you want a long term goal that doesn't end in Vince buying off all of your assets?
4)TNA over hypes, I believe it's probably a two hour time slot (which would be huge, imo,) but not on Mondays. That would be suicide.
5)Dunno, I'm bored with this argument, so as far as I'm concerned we'll just have to wait and see it all play out.

Speaking personally, I have absolutely nothing to do or watch on Thursdays and I still forget to watch TNA. It was totally fucking awesome at first, but now it's just sorta dragging. It feels repetitious and dry. In all honesty, if I had a choice between watching a recent RAW or a recent Impact, I'd go with the RAW...until a women's match or something, maybe. Going to Monday wouldn't make me any more likely to watch it at all, except as an alternative to specific matches.

It's probably the two-hour time slot or Goldberg. Kurt Angle is a slight possibility, though not likely.
I think they might possibly try and get a slot opposite of a WWE show. If they try Monday, they will probably lose miserably. However, if they aired it during ECW or Smackdown, it could work. Any timeslot better than Thursdays @ 11PM/10PM would probably bring better ratings;
Think of the possibilities if it were Angle though.

Yea, without Turner, WCW would have died before the NWO. Impact is so bad now because the film 3 episodes in 1 day. So they have to have certain characters in brawls and interviews for 2 shows, then they wrestle in 1 show. It is so stupid, and if they cannot afford to film each week and allow the stars to wrestle and keep feuds fresh, they just need to get the fuck of of TV.

TNA is teasing that the big announcement on tonight's show will be delivered by a wrestler who is not on the show. I guess the tease is to make you think a new star coming in. The only thing I'm told is there is a debate whether people will give it a thumbs up or thumbs down and if it will live up to the hype. I'm also told the appearance of whomever this person is will be the final thing on the show.
Please don't let it be Luger making the announcment.

It'd be mad if The Rock did the announcement. Or if Kurt Angle or Chris Jericho did it. LOL if it's Kanyon. I love that guy.
The announcement should be a multiple things. New timeslot, longer show, Luger, Bagwell, Angle, Russo and Goldberg. That would be huge. Throw Lesnar in there and you have yourself something that WILL change the wrestling industry.
Seriously, Monday would be awesome for TNA. Instead of bitching about The McMahons being on TV, again, you can switch over and watch Jay Lethal and Senshi have a great match. They really need two hours, so hopefully that is it as well. Two hours is more critical then a better timeslot, if you ask me. Destor, you know I love you, but of course people are more likely to tune in if they are already watching a wrestling show. A switch during ads, a boring segment. Instead of switching to NFL (or whatever is on over there at alternate times), they can turn to iMpact!. The WWE will then probably turn out the big guns, but with TNA putting out great TV, and if they get another show to compete with the WWE (I'm thinking one show Monday, and another Thursday), TNA could do some real damage. I also like the idea of TNA putting on Specials (as rumoured).
And for those that think the product is stale and mundane, THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE BRINGING IN RUSSO FOR!!!! A lot of people may not like the guy, but at least he's not boring. He's better than any Nickelodeon writer, that's for sure. Russo's crap > the WWE's crap.
I think the best thing they can do for their product at No Surrender, is have Jeff Jarrett no show the event. Make it seem like he is scared of the crowd (and that could be good heat), and then have Jim Cornette get pissed, which leads to him stripping Jeff Jarrett of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on the spot, and announcing Samoa Joe the new Champion. It would be fresh, exciting, and it prevents a crappy Fan Lumberjack Match. If they want a match in its place, have Scott Steiner come out and challenge Joe to his first title match. Joe, of course, retains.
Mr. Nerfect
09-24-2006, 05:51 PM
It's either Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, Chris Jericho, Steve Austin, American Dragon or a big fat dissapointment.
Seriously, how awesome would it be if the WWE just marched out a whole bunch of talent?
Jim Cornette comes out, and introduces us to the surprise. Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell come out to some generic music. They say they are two of the greatest icons in the history of the business. Bryan Danielson then comes out, and they ask who he is. He says he if the true future of this business. Brock Lesnar then comes out, and says he is the youngest WWE Champion of all-time (which he still technically is), but that means nothing, he wants the real World Championship, the NWA World Heavyweight Title.
Chris Jericho then comes out and says that Lesnar will win the NWA Title before he does over his crippled body. That brings out Steve Austin, who says he may be crippled, but he cannot escape the allure of potentially kicking Jeff Jarrett's ass. Then Kurt Angle comes out, and says that you want to talk about cripples who kick ass, Angle won a Gold Medal with a broken freakin' neck! He then proceeded to win the WWE Championship, WCW Championship and World Heavyweight Championship with a broken freakin' neck! In fact, he just drove here from Pennsylvania with a broken freakin' neck!
Goldberg then runs through the crowd, Spears Bagwell, and then Jackhammers him, as everyone just watches on from ringside. Goldberg asks "Who's Next!?!" and then "If ya smell-ell-ell-ell-ell-ell! What The Rock...is cooking?", and out comes the star of the Gridiron Gang, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson! The Rock then asks "Who in the blue Hell, are all of you? It doesn't matter who you are! The Rock has a huge announcement to make on behalf of TNA, specifically that man, Jimmy Cornette. And who better to deliver it than The Rock?
"Who better than Kanyon?!?!?!?!" plays over the PA, as a theme similar to his WWE theme plays, and Chris Kanyon comes out of the entrance way, with a shirt that says "TNA MVP". Kanyon gets on the mic and shouts "Guess what everybody? I agreed to the terms and conditions, I'm whoring my name out! In return for giving them the right to market my name, Christopher Morgan Kanyon (CM Kanyon for short) is going to bring his no limits, innovative style to TNA. Hoobah! The Rock then tells Kanyon he has been doing something whacky, in Rock-style. Kanyon and The Rock then brawl, with Kanyon actually getting the better of The Rock. Angle and Austin are going at it at ringside, which leads to Cornette getting knocked down, and Jericho and Lesnar begin taking shots at each other. Goldberg and Luger are brawling in the ring. That leaves Bryan Danielson to just leave unscathed, calmly walking through the war that is raging.
The Rock can come out later and finally make the announcement that TNA will be getting a two-hour timeslot on Mondays.
The word going around backstage at the No Surrender PPV in Orlando, Florida is that in an effort to prevent the surprise from being leaked out, whoever it is will be hidden at a hotel until around 9:30 PM before being brought over to the PPV.
The surprise appearance/announcement is set to close the show. There are only a handful within TNA who know what the announcement is and all have signed non disclosure agreements. There is a lot of anticipation and excitement backstage over whatever is planned, although some of the wrestlers are disgruntled about having to wait to find out what it is at the same time as the fans watching the show.

Calling it now: after Jarrett pins Samoa Joe. Some familiar theme music plays...
"No Chance... so that what ya got!"
Then out comes Vince McMahon who declares he's gonna but the majority of TNA's stock right then and there. He then gives Jeff Jarrett a $100 bill. Jarrett then leaves. He then returns a few minutes later carrying a wallet. He then hands Vince 4 $20s, a $10, a $5, 3 $1s and a nickel.
You know, I would absolutely LOVE to see Vince come out and reveal that he's the mastermind behind TNA (whether he had been funding them from the get-go or just bought them out).
I'm not saying it's going to happen, or that there SHOULDN'T be other wrestling organizations not under McMahon on TV, but I would LOVE to see the faces on all the TNA marks. They hate WWE, yet it had been a WWE brand all along (at least in the storylines).

Anything less would be a disappointment, or wouldn't nearly be as exciting. Fuck TNA if it's a new timeslot. That's something they could mention in a throwaway promo on the show.

OK so looking at this objectively
1. Kurt Angle
Already? Would he even be out of the no compete clause yet? And even so is Kurt that stupid that he would go to TNA and wrestle when he isnt healed yet? And if he is in a fit state to wrestle then Vince would offer him more money.
2. The Rock
He's in movies for good now so no.
3. Bret Hart
The guy has had MULTIPLE strokes give it up already.
4. Brock Lesnar
Wants to play in MMA
If its any of them its Angle and its not him so enjoy your dissapointment.

1. Kurt Angle
No complete cause would be the only thing stopping him. He doesn't need to wrestle. He's making an announcement about timeslots most likely. Just bring him in as a mouthpiece to get someone over. Plus, he may be pissed off at the WWE for forcing him out the door, and Angle isn't in perfect shape, but TNA offers a much better schedule.
2. The Rock
He won't return to wrestle, but for a one night only deal, I think it is VERY likely. He is good friends with Jeff Jarrett and Christian Cage, plus TNA is situated at Universal Studios. Helping out a movie studio is never a bad way to go for an actor.
3. Bret Hart
So he couldn't appear at the Hall of Fame because he had a stroke? Oh wait, a stroke doesn't stop you from standing around. Hart will never get back into a ring, but no one said he would.
4. Brock Lesnar
The guy may be worried about getting the shit kicked out of him. TNA is the safest bet for Lesnar, and if they offered him Sting money, I think he would consider it.
