View Full Version : The Future of ECW

Better Than You
10-14-2006, 06:41 PM
Dave Scherer reports that starting soon the ECW brand will no longer be treated as a separate company but rather as the 3rd brand of the WWE. Little minor changes such as the women switching from being called Vixens to Divas and the males from Extremists to Superstars will take place. There has also been some discussion about removing the ECW logo from the screen and replacing it with the WWE logo. A lot of this is Kevin Dunn's doing. He thinks the fans are confused and don't realize that ECW is a part of the WWE and he says that's the reason for the low ratings. Also expect the product to be toned down a lot. Vince McMahon is not a fan of hardcore wrestling and he hated the RVD vs. Test match.I thought this would get more attention in this forum.

What Would Kevin Do?

Fucking retarded. That is all. I rarely watch Smackdown, and I'm probably going to stop watching Raw live.

ECW is the only show I care about. Let's how long that lasts.

ECW is Smackdown on cable. That's the only difference.

This really doesn't bother me. It's simply aesthetic. I thought Extremists and Vixens sounded retarded anyway. And what's the difference if there's a WWE logo in the corner? I already know it's WWE, and don't notice the logo most of the time.

Everyone already knows it is a third brand for the WWE, so this is retarded. I could care less about the 'vixens' being called 'divas' or the 'superstars' because I don't think that even affects the brand but removing ECW from the screen defeats the purpose and ECW is my favorite show right now and is doing just fine as it is.

The majority of the matches are toned down as it is. If they get a steady PPV schedule rolling they can save the big spots for then.

Listen, I'm just trying to be optimistic here. I can deal with less hardcore action as long as what I'm being given is entertaining.

If they tone it down any more, we're going to have nothing but thumb wrestling and catfights.

Seriously, I wonder how stupid they must be to believe there's any confusion.

"WWE wrestlers on ECW? WTFFFFFFF? THESE ARE DIFFERENT COMPANIES!"

I mean, the 5 minute promos for the Marine, the replays of Raw and Smackdown happenings, the homecoming interpromotional matches, the presence at the upcoming PPV...

Next thing they're going to tell me is "Velocity" drew low ratings because it was mistaken for Antique Roadhouse.

No, ECW is doing "poorly" because it's on Sci Fi, a channel which normally draws 1 ratings at best, is associated with nerds, and leads into ECW with Eureka. And that's ignoring the fact that oldschool ECW fans are probably unimpressed and it'll be hard to lure in new fans with the ECW brand name...

...ECW was very much a "love it or hate it" sort of thing.

I think the ratings are low because they haven't signed Silver King and El Dandy. COME ON. SILVER KING AND EL DANDY=RATINGS = MONEY!!! WOOOOOOO!

Only thing that bothers me is the "toning down the product bit". Because well, if it's not Extreme, why bring it back. The fans? The fans were attracted to a different product, that's like pissing in a can and calling it Coke because plenty of people liked that, and then complaining when it doesn't sell.

Ah yes Vince becuase squash matches and shitty storylines are so much more entertaining! I thought ECW was meant to be an 'alternative' to raw and smackdown? RVD V Test was the best match i've seen all year and i'm not confused about the brands and I doubt many others are either, if they're, they don't deserve to be wrestling fans. Thanks for insulting our intelligence, stupid writers, not everyone is as dumb as you fuckers! This really does give an insight into how the writers think, imo.

Oh well just as I thought ECW was getting good, this news pops up, fuck it, unless it gets better with less squash matches, I wont be watching. I hope RVD and Test aren't bothered about Vince not liking that match, RVD has really been improving to, Fuck Vince Mcmahon, i'm going to watch more of TNA instead of this if is how things are going.

What we can get from this is : Vince doesn't like extreme entertaining matches, he loves boring nothing-to-do-with-anything squash matches.

Vince must have really had an ax to grind.....That's what I thought when I first read this. Well, ECW is recieving a blumpkin. They have what, 5 or 6 of the original roster, and the remainder are WWE talent that don't get as much screentime anymore?

We probably should have known McMahon was going to pull this shit because the WWE guys that appear on the show remind me of a cheesy i80s spinoff of an original sitcom where those characters from the first show would make "guest appearances" one the spinoff, and hilarity would ensue.

I can almost hear a SCI-Fi announcer go "And making sure things don't get out of hand, Raw's Matt Stryker is going to lay down the law in ECW country". UGHHH!

I really thought it was already considered a brand exstension. What with the dumbed down matches, storylines, and roster. Not to mention it takes place BEFORE Smackdown..... fucking morons.

Everyone agrees that it was a really good match. Good matches aren't allowed in the WWE for some reason. I rarely see good matches on Raw or Smackdown. Make that practically never.

How can Vince say he doesn't like hardcore wrestling when every match he's ever been in has essentially been a hardcore match?

How was it they decided to tone down ECW in the first place, despite the response from ONS2 and such?

Come on, Vince's logic has always been convenient and contradictory.

I agree with Dunn.

I don't think that there's any way for people to know that ECW is affiliated with the WWE.

The only hints they're dropping are having the ECW champion face off against the two other champions at the next WWE PPV, having ECW stars on WWE shows, WWE starts on ECW shows, outright stating on air that Vince owns ECW, having ECW's website be a part of WWE.com, and advertising WWE events and products on ECW on Sci-Fi.
