View Full Version : Trivial or even stupid things you miss...

Not like big deal sort of things, like the Rock wrestling or whatnot, but smaller things.
For example, I miss the whole "Stevie Richards as Dude Love" thing. "Chicks dig the Dude!"
It didn't change wrestling, it wasn't even like a great angle, but it was fun and amused me.

5 second pose
-Guys doing tilt-a-whirl powerbombs from the turnbuckle corner (ala RVD vs. Jerry Lynn).
-Big main event matches on TV that end clean (personal favorite: Bret Hart vs. Chris Benoit from WCW) that send the viewers home feeling like they've seen something relevant.
-Verbal sparring from the announcer's table. King and JR used to do it, during the Attitude Era, but these days they agree on everything. Cole just isn't quick enough to match wits with JBL, and JBL usually just says ignorant shit anyways. And Tazz and Styles may as well be giving ECW a blowjob all night long, prepping the product, but not attacking each other.
-Shattered Dreams.
-Christian's WWE promos.
-Eric Bischoff. Seriously. The guy is entertaining.
Most of all, I miss switching back and forth between Nitro and RAW.

It was Austin getting on people's nerves, and making it funny at the same time :p.
But it spilled over to other guys' segments too. I remember watching Undertaker try to cut a promo on Smackdown one night, but the fans wouldn't shut the fuck up and let him talk.

On a more serious note than the crack at Gowen....
I miss the magic. I miss how watching my favorite wrestlers used to be the highlight of my Saturday morning.
I miss the older format. I'd like to see a few enhancement talents get squashed just for the hell of it during the show, and not to build up a farce of an undefeated streak I want to see more complex matches, feuds that put over wrestlers, and managers who aren’t part of a gimmicky team.
I miss how I never complained about a show. I miss wondering “Well if everyone says it’s fake, and that chair really hit him in the face, how was that faked?” I miss how I hated Ric Flair with a passion when I went into the 3rd grade. I miss how the only reason I said my prayers and took my vitamins were because Hulk Hogan told me to, brother! (this is almost funny because as an adult my views on The Hulkster and The Nature Boy are totally reversed)
I miss how the faces were role models who everyone wanted to be like, and how the heels were the scum of the earth. I miss looking at the wrestlers for who they were, and not looking at them as “the next so-and-so.”
I miss how a chair shot ended the match, titles meant something, and the good guys rarely broke the rules.
I miss how I used to see it. No, I don’t want to be some sheep cheering for John Cena for no reason. I just want a reason to mark out again, and for the love of God take K-Fed the hell out of the wrestling ring.
Tonight’s show put me in a funk. Something about it was off, and it felt more like a chore than a form of entertainment I’ve been watching religiously for over 15 years. All of these thoughts about how much I used to love it came to a head all at once. In two hours I didn’t see any real ring psychology, a few promos that left me cold, and wrestling that was bad (even as today’s standards go).
I miss having that reason to care.

Hah, I remember when Undertaker said something like "Say 'what' if you sleep with your mother!" and like only a third of the audience said it. I DO NOT miss the "What" chants at all. I find them fucking annoying when the promos have nothing to do with Austin, especially lately.
But I DO miss:
* Billy & Chuck. Seriously, they were gold.
* Tough Enough...in the style of the first three. They should've kept it going in its original state, maybe every year or two. TE4 was abysmal.
* The Big Three (WCW, ECW, WWF) competing. Even though it was mainly WCW vs WWF it was still greatness. There was a taboo against mentioning the competition, so when Bischoff did it in the form of spoiling Raw, and then WWF did it in the form of a DX invasion, it was amazing.
* The old Eric Bischoff. The one that screwed over his Raw wrestlers, brought in 3 Minute Warning, and was the greatest GM of all time.
* The catch-a-midget match from Bischoff's Raw Roulette thing, where Hurricane and Rosey had to try to catch a midget, who ended up in J.R.'s lap...and he won the match.
* Biker Taker. I just feel that we didn't get enough of him. We had like 2 years of Biker Taker and 13+ years of regular Taker. I dunno, maybe it's just me.
* Emo Kane. Kane crying is just too fucking hilarious. We need him back.
* The chemistry of the commentators...man, nothing can beat Monsoon and Heenan back in the day. Gold right there. ACTUALLY, what came close was Heyman and J.R., when the former took over for Lawler during his absence. They would almost fight during commentary and it was awesome. It didn't last damn near long enough.
That's all I can think of for now.

The hardcore title, 24/7 rules.
They could bring it back with no problem. Just do a backstage segment where a box that says "old props" on the side of it is open, just laying there. Have assorted old things in the box. Chuck and Billy's headbands, Head, a used chair, Mankind's mask, Jimmy Hart's mega phone, maybe a pair of Bret Hart sunglasses, a Slammy, a few wrestling buddies (my best friend has a few of these somewhere), the WCW hardcore title, Pepe, a huge binder full of bad ideas, assorted merch that hasn't sold, etc...
I'm not saying use these wrestlers. I'm just putting there names in here.
So Eugene grabs the hardcore title and talks about how he's the new hardcore champion. Kenny sees this, and sees a ref passing by. Kenny whispers something to the ref, and they both smile. Kenny shouts out and points, "Hey! Isn't that Tully Blanchard?" Eugene looks with a huge smile on his face, Kenny rolls Eugene up for a small package, grabs the tights, and the ref counts three. Kenny grabs the title and as he's running away he says "Thanks! I owe you a coke!"
Camera looks at Eugene, and says "Tully isn't there...." Maybe for a cheap laugh Tully walks up from behind Eugene, puts his hand on Eugene's shoulder and talks about how it's hard job.

I'm gonna throw in the mis-matched, wild cruiserweight tag matches from WCW's prime.
On one side you got La Parka, El Dandy, Villano Number Four, and Silver King and on the other side you got Psychosis, Ciclope, Blitzkrieg and Hector Garza... four guys who back in 1998 you didn't know who the fuck they were, but they would absolutely burn the house down.

Celebrity royal rumble entrants, random wrestlers becoming GM for no reason at all, the hardcore title 24/7 rule(especially the time crash holly was chased through that chuck e. cheese).
