I don't know if anyone here cares, as I don't know how many of you import shit....

I've never ordered from them, myself.
However, I hate this sort of action from Sony.

I don't know what the fuck Sony's problem is...

Just one more reason for me not to get a Ps3.

There is no way in hell I'm getting a PS3 now. They can bring out Virtual Blowjob and they can still fuck right off. Cunts.

Sony's problem is the same problem they've had for decades. They don't want you to get the product earlier or cheaper.
It was legislation from Sony that made imports cost so much. Not Sony exclusively, but they were in on it.
It was input from Sony that lead to regional encoding, and discs that wouldn't work in region-free players. Again, not only them.
It was Sony that created copy protection that fucks up your computer. This isn't so much about getting things early or cheap, but I threw it in because those motherfuckers are evil.
So anyway, Sony wants to protect their monetary interests. They're blaming Lik-Sang for problems. Ah well.

If Lik-Sang was considered a giant crab, they were hit for massive damage.

Disappointing, but I haven't ordered from Lik-Sang in years, so I'm not too worried personally.

I think it's more a bad precedent than anything else. Not even really a precedent, but a sign of things to come.

They did this to Bleem as well. I know it will never happen but I just wish Sony would get fucked over and go bankrupt.

Seriously why would they do that? I don't import stuff, but this is another reason for me not to get one.
I'm getting a Wii, cheaper and by the looks of it, I can actually get one before Xmas

Yeah, but Bleem was an emulator, which = illegal.

emulators =/= illegal. Now, I don't know why Bleem was shut down or whatever, but it had to be more than just an emulator, or they'd have no case.

If I recall correctly, the were letting people play playstation games in dreamcasts and/or vice versa.

Bleem was an emulator that allowed you to play PSX games on PC. They also came out with Bleemcast, an emulator that allowed you to play PS on DC.
Here's the rub: Neither deal is illegal, and in fact, Bleem seems to have won most of its lawsuits. They were phyrric victories, however, as Sony kept lobbing lawsuits at them, costing them enough money to tank them (Well, that combined with shitty sales of Bleemcast after Sega abandoned the DC).
In other words, Sony wasn't in the right, but they were able to toss enough money at it to kill them anyway.

Yeah, they did win them all. Rand used to post over at a Dreamcast message board I frequented and they won them all. But they just kept coming. Shame really, the next 2 Bleemcast packs were FF7 and Smackdown 2, both with better visuals than running it on a PS2 :(

Honestly, I can't say I blame them. Legal or not, it had potential to cut into a large share of their profits, since people could just buy psx games without owning a psx. Granted, Sony would still make money from Sony created games, they'd lose money from loss of ps sales. I'm not saying what they did was right, but business wise, it was the smart thing to do.

Nah, not really. In fact, there hasn't been a decent enough reason yet for me to consider not getting one.
My personal reasons are:
Overpriced for me personally
None of the release games blow my skirt up
I know the gen 1 version of all systems will fuck up within 3 years
It will be cheaper in a year when all the better games come out
The Grand Tourismo Travesty
Personally i'll prob get a Wii first as the back catoluge interests me and the idea of the new control pad is very interesting to me, Sony with exception of MSG4 and Devil May Cry 4 haven't captured my imagination as yet, so I can wait a while for a price drop

Grand Tourismo Travesty?
And don't get me wrong, when I say I'm getting a PS3, I don't mean right away. I won't get one probably until at least the middle of next year. I probably won't get a 360 or Wii period. I agree, the PS3 launch is sorta weak (Resistance: Fall of Man, Fight Night Round 3, and Madden all look good, but besides that, nothing has really grabbed me yet)
But yeah, I'm waiting for my budget to go up/price to go down, and more games.

The whole thing with GT is basically that you're buying a start menu, then you need to pay for cars and tracks via the web link.
It could cost hundred's to own everything!
I will probably get a PS3 in March 2008 I reckon, by then it should be 50% of the current price and at least on a 2nd ir not 3rd generation. Plus they'll then be a tasty back catoluge of games for me to sink my teeth into

How so? Sony lost money on every PS1 sold. They should see it as a blessing.

Even so, you have to consider accessories as well. Multiple controllers, memory cards, multi-taps, etc.

They were also developing a Bleem!Pod for DC to plug in controllers and memory cards from PS1
What are Bleem!pods? By Captain Skyhawk
With a Bleem!pod you can connect your regulair PSX joypad to your Dreamcast. The difference with other existing devices is the possibility of connecting your own PSX memorycard! With this great feature you can use your old saves on the new Bleem!cast. Another feature others don't have is fully support of all buttons including the second analog controller. This, ofcourse, for fully use of the Bleem!cast disk.

Out of curiousity, how was copy protection done w/ Bleemcast? Would bleemcast have made it easier to play pirated games?
Anywho, besides that, I've got nothing. I'm just going through reasons why I could see Sony going after it (besides the fact that it made Dreamcast look like the superior system, and made having a PS irrelevant.)

All companies lose money on the initial console, that's common knowledge and part of the business plan.
Who just buys the console anyways? You are gonna need games, more controlers, Guitar hero, guns etc.
It's a calculated risk yes, but I don't think Sony will run at a loss on PS3's in a few years time

You realise that they took a loss on every PS unit sold, right?
Otherwise, your argument sounds brilliant.

Toss in scratch issues (They claim that the polymer they use on the discs means the proximity to the surface is not an issue, but I have scratch proof glasses which use a similar (possibly the same) polymer coating that still gets scratched), and an uncertain future for Blu-Ray, and you've got my list down pat.
I don't let my dislike of Sony stop me from buying their systems, but this will be the first one I don't buy near launch, if at all, because there is so little for it and so much against it.
Sony, however, are cunts. I mean, illegal actions to stop legal software? Suing import sites, basically saying their chinese hardware is too crappy for their British market? Etc.

Though it was dependent on people updating the system, meaning you couldn't play the newest, hottest titles.
I'd imagine that Bleemcast would make it easy to pirate games, but no more so than any other emulator, and they only sued 2 or 3 emulators. They took illegal steps in doing so, too, TMK (Not that illegal actions are new to Sony, who wants to hack yoru computer if they even suspect you of file sharing).
