That's right, I'm back! Can't stop, WON'T stop!

So yeah, I'm working on the design and layout for Xylot Themes. I had to re-design it to accommodate banner and text ads, plus I'm sick of having a plain black background for XT. Tell me what you think (click to enlarge):

The bright blue boxes are where ads will supposedly go. That blank calendar will display today's date...or I might replace it with random funny quotes (mainly from bash.org) that I already use on another site of mine.

Yeah! Okay, so Jaton is helping me out making Xylot Themes banners. They're going to be themed (Raw, Smackdown, ECW, and TNA) and it'll be random which one shows up. I don't have the banners on me ATM but maybe Jaton can show what he's got so far when he sees this thread.

Basically, the site will be FREE for all. No download limits, no accounts, nothing! You have the option of donating $10 and you get lifetime access to the Feature of the Day Archives, though that idea is still up in the air. If I implement it, every day (or week?) there will be a feature -- like a non-theme, or a sound clip, or a remixed theme never used, or a version of a theme never used, like Triple H's theme done by Drowning Pool...something that I may have on hand.

If anyone is wondering, "XyBlog" will be a blog I'll keep where I'll think of new ideas for the site and ask visitors what they think (via comments), or solicit ideas from people. "News" will be updates on the site.

I was thinking about eventually expanding Xylot Themes to encompass more of wrestling than just themes...like championship title histories, wrestling headlines (via RSS feed hopefully?), and whatever else anybody can come up with. I don't want it to be a full-fledged wrestling news site with themes secondary, however...the themes will come first, with the other features being secondary.

So yeah, the theme information is already in the database, I just need to upload every theme to a free upload host (yet to be determined). Can anybody suggest some file upload sites that are free, don't limit my total upload space, don't put a time limit on files, and allows me to upload more than one file at a time? Thanks.

Well the only thing that is going to happen is one of two things...

1. Bandwith issues

2. WWE will strike it down faster than Jesus.

I suggest just making a wrestling forum, make it password protected, and just let people post media and stuff there.

Jaton brought up the idea of copyright infringment and suggested that we do NOT provide any themes that can be found on CDs, but I say fuck it. Besides, there are themes sites on the Net that are still around and going strong, like www.dftp.us and www.wrestlingmediazone.comw so I doubt we'll be shut down anytime soon.

As for bandwidth issues, we're not hosting the themes on xylot.net. They're going to be hosted on a free service. Any suggestions, guys? Read the last paragraph of my post.

I already posted what I had going for the banners.

I still haven't cleaned them up yet though. But it'll only take about 2 minutes.

Where's the thread? I must've missed it.

Hmm, at the moment, I'm using www.fileden.com (http://www.fileden.com) to host my mp3s. For a free account, I get 500MB of storage space and 5GB of bandwidth for a set period of time. When that 5GB goes out, I have to wait a month before I can access my mp3s again. Although that's all second hand information to me as I've only used 35.9MB of bandwidth so far.

With the amount of traffic that Xylot Themes has gotten in the past, 5GB might not be enough.

Hmm.

DFTP used 4shared (http://www.4shared.com/), which has a 1GB limit but you could always set up a bunch of accounts for each letter. Not sure if there's a bandwith limit, and you can password protect it so only registered users can access it.

The thing is, I don't want users to have to register an account, for free or otherwise. I want it to be open to the public, with links directly to the uploaded file. I'm leaning toward www.upload2.net, which has no limits I'm concerned about, and has a URL for each file you upload. Hell, it even offers a program to automate uploading.

Yeah, I think that's what I'm going.

Anyway, to see a preview of the site as I'm working on it, go to http://www.xylot.net/xt5 :)
