So I watched an entire CSI episode yesterday with my parents because I was too exhausted to leave the room since I'm on crutches and all. Anyways, I must say, that is a terrible show and I dont' understand how it's so popular that there's like 5 different CSI series. I think it has to do with how unrealistic it is and it's a slap in the face to real police officers but my god it was terrible. I've sat through maybe 30 minutes prior to watching the entire episode and I figured I'd give it a chance. I really do think it's a waste of television space.

Unrealistic? They showed on thier DVD sets how they get advice from real CSI's on the stuff they do. They have excellent writers and can come up with several stories in 1 show.

It is unrealistic.

That is an idiotic statement. How the fuck do you know have you been to a crime scene and seen what they do? I think not. STFU

I know a lot of cops and want to be one.

It's not idiotic when it's the truth.

The CSI shows have vast amounts of dramatic license, but that doesn't need to be a bad thing.

The only CSI I think is really great is the original Las Vegas one.

The science behind it is real, but actual police departments don't have nearly as well funded crime labs.

Its unrealistic in that the CSI's on the show do the jobs of like 23490832 different people themselves.

Well, realistic or unrealistic, its a fucking TV SHOW. You gonna say the Seinfeld sucks because it's unrealistic? It's entertainment. If you don't like it that's fine. Just don't go making half brain statements.

Ummmmm...How to put this gently.

...You fucking moron.

Yes, the show is unrealistic. They get advice from people who are CSIs, and they have a guy who did years with a police dept. I think it was the LVPD, too, but that doesn't make the show realistic. It doesn't hold true in terms of police procedure, the science involved (Especially since they need to keep it entertaining, which I understand), and even the show's makers, when confronted by the complaints of real CSIs,explained such. So you're ignoring the science, the actual police procedural rules, AND Bruckheimer's folks' own words.

Often times, leaps are made to speed up a plot; procedures are ignored to keep things moving, and science is fudged to keep things interesting. Every time Grissom comes to a conclusion on electrical science, I can pick up on his mistakes fast, given that I know electronics and electricity pretty damn well.

Getting input from the field doesn't make this any more realistic than Stargate (Who get input from the Air Force AND NASA), and it doesn't make it any different than Braveheart (BASED on a true story...).

I know you then backtracked and defended it by syaing "well it's just a show," But you said something incredibly fucking stupid. Not to mention, whenthe show pushes itself on the scientific aspects as a heavy vehicle, people will complain.

In all honesty, CSI is just brain fodder, its crap. Not that it stops me from watching it :D

I only particularly enjoyed the Tarantino episodes. Other than that, I find the show boring.

I've seen it twice, the first time bored me to death, but I thought it as just an off episode as everyone raves about it. After the second ep I realised that people are morons and I could use the TV time for something important, like cleaning my nails.

Ratings don't lie. CSI > your favorite show. That is all.

That's because the majority of people are stupidheads.

Yeah, so do Survivor, 24, and American Idol. Conclusion?

I love CSI, but then I dig all that crime show stuff, realistic or not.

Well, actually, there's a line. "Bones" leaps over the line of believability every single episode, and as such, should be receiving the majority of the wrath directed toward CSI in this thread.

I'm not sure how "unbelievable" bones is. With very focused, high-end resources, and the fact that it's pretty heavily based in reality, I've got to say the "unbelievability" of the show is a bit limited to me.

I'm not sure why Gill Grissom would be more believable, when Bones is really only an expert in closely related fields, whereas Grissom is an expert in practically all physical sciences, despite being primarily an entymologyst.

Grissom's a more interesting figure, but believable?

DaveWadding

It's not really that believable but it's entertaining when there's nothing else on.
