View Full Version : Least likely guy to win the World Title that you think will win the World Title

Avenger

Okay so the idea here is who are the guys that you have a feeling will win the World Title who, if a reasonable person looked at it, are pretty unlikely to win the title? Like if we had said Rey like three years ago no-one would have reasonably said it will happen. But look how things turned out.

I think Paul London will be World Champion. I think he has the basic potential to win the World Title as a Rey Mysterio kind of underdog. It's so far-fetched but I just have a feeling that he will get a main event push someday. Look at HBK when he started, guys around then would never have said he would be World Champ. I'm by no means saying London has anything near the total package of Shawn Michaels. But I would put money on London being World Champion as an outside bet if bookies took money on pro-wrestling.

Your turn...

Monty Brown...

Oh wait...

He actually fits the description of what the WWE wants in terms of championship material...

you said LEAST LIKELY, so how the hell do you figure Lashley's an obvious choice? Cuz he COULD win it at Mania, and MAYBE from Batista? the writers change Mania plans all the time leading up to it...THAT is obvious...

This is very tough. JBL was one of those least likely guys. In fact I never would have even guessed he would have gotten anything more than a mid card singles push.

Paul London could be that guy. I can't really think of anyone else because a lot of guys right now in the WWE are basically being groomed for gold like Lashley and Carlito.

I can't think of anyone who hasn't already been said, but I'll also say Boogeyman.

I have a gut feeling that someday Matt Striker will win it some day. I think his school teacher gimmick will be dropped by then, but in a few years he is going to be some egotistical jackass heel who is on RAW and wins the WWE Title. Bank it.

He has at least another 2 or 3 reigns left inside of him. I mean shit, since his death he put Rey Mysterio on the Main Event scene and brought Chavo to upper mid carder. Once he gets into a fued with the ECW Zombie (NerF) he will be back in title contention.

 Cruel. But I got a good laugh out of it.

Least likely to be champ, and if we're talking about the World Title on Smackdown!, Funaki would be my guess. With Boogeyman a close second. However I would say he was rather close with those feuds with JBL and now King Booker.

One person I will be paying attention to is MVP.

Monty Brown will debut by running in at 'Mania on the John Cena vs. Batista Champion vs. Champion Main Event and he will Pounce them both right out of the ring. Cena and Batista will be out cold on the outside and they will declare Monty the new Unified Champion.

This is a pretty sweet topic, dude. The point of it is to pick a guy that looks like he has no chance at winning the World Title, but you can someday see holding the belt. An example would have been JBL, who no one saw being World Champion in early 2004, but then a few months later...

You get the idea.

Paul London is a good pick. He seems to have a good figure about him these days. He's not huge, but with drug-testing and stuff, his physique looks pretty damn impressive these days. He's got a few Championship runs here and there, and when his stint with Brian Kendrick ends, I can see him getting the underdog push.

Brian Kendrick has a slightly smaller chance than Paul London, in my opinion, but I can see him becomming an arrogant prick, and getting a few solid main event programs. I wouldn't put money on him being World Champion, though.

Gregory Helms is one guy I can see getting the World Title at some point. He's been treated as a prodigy by JBL on commentary, and they seem to be trying to use the Cruiserweight Championship to get him over beyond the Division (if that makes sense). They jobbed him out to The Undertaker pretty quickly, but I can honestly see him getting a solid push to the top at some stage. Maybe with Ric Flair by his side.

Val Venis is another guy I can see just someday holding the gold. He won't be the WWE's top star, or anything, but I can see him getting the Bradshaw treatment, and one day just get the title as kind of a "thank you" reign. It really wouldn't surprise me to see the WWE just drop the porn star shtick, and just turn him into a slimey heel.

Joey Mercury is another name that sprung to my mind when I read this thread. Rumours have been saying there's not going to be much done with him, but he's truly an all-round better version of Johnny Nitro. In analogy format: Johnny Nitro is to Jeff Hardy, as Joey Mercury is to Matt Hardy. I really expect Joey Mercury to get a solid push to the top at some stage.

I'd love to see William Regal get the World Title, as I would Matt Hardy, but I doubt it's going to happen.

Avenger

Thanks Alienoid. I like the whole Gregory Helms idea, but I am especially intrigued by the Val Venis idea. Now I can definately see that happening. I mean just because he has had a shitty pornstar gimmick for his whole career does not mean that he cannot hold the title. I mean look at some of the gimmicks JBL had. Who ever saw an APA member winning the World Title?

Thanks for understanding the topic. I thought this might spark some pretty interesting debate but unfortunately when you come up with something thought provoking and original in the wrestling forum half the 12 year olds here have trouble getting their heads around it.

Jeritron
10-31-2006, 10:30 PM
If the WWE had any interest in pushing or "thanking" Val Venis, he'd be on TV. I think I'd have to see him appearing on televised WWE programming before I could see him getting a title run.
I'm not really sure who I see coming out of nowhere as a champion tho, which makes sense, it'd probably be someone leaving a tag team.
As for singles I highly doubt they'll be pushing anyone unpredictable for a while since they have a handful of young guys who've yet to hold the belt who most likely will. Plus Cena Edge Orton and Batista aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Jeritron
10-31-2006, 10:42 PM
Of course, I'm not saying these ideas are bad, I'm just saying not only are they not likely (which they should be because of the point of the thread), I also dont see them happening at all either.
HHH and other top guys will stick around, and so will Cena Edge Batista and Orton for a long time. In addition to them it is likely that Kennedy, Carlito, Lashley, Nitro, Jeff, Shelton etc. will get pushed.
Short of an Austin type phenomenon in one of these guys, there won't be any oppurtunites for the forseeable future I dont think. And nobody can predict one of those so I won't even try.

London is a one of a kind talent. Look back at his matches with A.J.
This guy is destined to be a WWE/World Heavyweight Champion.

Gregory is cool his feud with Matt was cool.

Chavo is the last wrestler in the guerrero family maybe he'll get a World title.

Kane has been really screwed up by the wwe recently no wonder he comes out with a sady face. I would be shock if he goes on to win the big 1 1 more time.

Benjamin may win it maybe not at Mania maybe SummerSlam it's still a maybe

Nitro is developing as 1 of raw's fastest rising superstar. He may get his hands on the gold if mercury doesn't come back.

It would have pretty fucking reasonable to expect Benoit to win the World Title at some point before he even won it.

He "won" the belt in WCW and came pretty close in his feud with The Rock in WWE before he actually won it. He was an established main eventer with World Title potential before he won it. I am talking about guys like London who are not in your usual World Champion mould who you see possibly, although it's reasonably unlikely, winning the belt.

Ron Simmons only won the title because Bill Watts wanted a black champion. So he would have been a perfect example if I posted this around 1985 when Ron was coming onto the scene. However in 1999 to see either Ron or JBL winning the strap was completely unreasonable.

listen mate, i'm just making valid points.

As for Benoit winning the title...oh, so you thought it was given did you? Well you must be some kind of magician, cos most people I know didn't think he'd win the title, esspecially after his next surgery and being buried for about 6 months after he came back.

People only really started to believe he would win the title in WWE after survivor series, heck, before that, he was wrestling A-train!

Dude, this thread makes no sense because its completely subjective. I put out names of wrestlers who I thought are not shoe-ins to win the title, but still have a good chance at winning it...isn't that exactly what this thread's about.
You really think Johnny Nitro is a shoe-in to win the title? If he does, he'll probably be the 2nd or 3rd smallest guy to ever win the title, behind Rey (phenomenal athlete) and HBK (one of the greatest ever.)

I'm with M-A-G, I really don't get this thread, and don't understand how your subjective bullshit is the be-all and-all of it
