Aside from the real shame of not having a playoff, because of money, today it was announced that last years National Championship was decided ( wrongly ) by TiVo. :|

It's to the point that , as a sports fan, when i watch college football, i expect a someone to pop out from behind my couch and tell me i'm on Candid Camera.

lol nice.

The BCS is gunna be the biggest mess in a while this year. They got lucky last year with 2 undefeateds, but theres going to be about 10 times who will all "claim" they should have a shot this year.

IS it even possible anymore? I thought two teams play for the National Championship, and the winner is it. Not like the old days where after the bowls the poll decided who wins it, that is why they made changes. After LSU and USC split the title 3 years ago. Now there cant be a split, as only two teams vie for the title, winner takes the cake.

Why is it so bloody difficult to find a national champion? I've seen "National Championships" with the top ranked team playing the 3rd. What the hell.

Nah the "National Championship" is really just the BCS Championship. I'm not exactly sure how a split champion works but I think it has to do with one team being ahead in one of the polls I dunno. I'm surious as well.

That call was in the first half wasn't it? The Texas lateral? That doesn't decide the game.

Yeah it was with a few minutes left in the 2nd quarter, I could be wrong but I think it was 3rd and 10 or something though, could be wrong

Yeah I'm pretty sure it was 3rd down too. Again, that doesn't decide the game.

It was a TD play. They would have been held to a FG and if i'm not mistaken, Texas won that game by 3? You do the math.

Yeah, the "National Championship" game is really just the BCS title game. Then there is two polls to go by, one of them 'by law' (lol) has to vote the BCS champion as the National Champion, the other poll can vote however they like. (Its the AP and Coaches Polls, but I can't remember which one goes with which) Atleast that is how it was, that's why USC was a co-National Champion but then Auburn wasn't (As bullshit as it is, its the truth)

The only way to really handle this stuff is to do a playoff system, but that will never happen. D2 and D3 schools have a huge playoff to determine their national champions.

D2 and D3 football also lose money, they don't make millions of dollars like D1 teams do.

I wouldnt say they lose money, if they did they wouldnt field a team.

They just dont make as much as Bowl Games, hence the reason why D1 will never go to a playoff

I know for a fact that the team at my college (small D3 school) loses money, but the only reason they have it is to attrach kids to the school to have them pay tuiton. So I guess you could argue it in-directly makes money I guess, but you know what I mean.

I am sure small D3s don't do amazing, but a lot of D2 schools do quite well. They aren't making money hand-over stick-glove though.

Prety sure Coaches have to vote the BCS Champ as the National Champ. 85% sure.

You can't say that. It would have changed the whole game. You can't say that Texas wouldn't have went for it on 4th and got it. Wasn't it like a 7 yard gain when he pitched the ball anyway? Yeah, like I said, it didn't decide the game.

D2 schools do pretty well, tbh.

When you say D2 do you mean actual D2 or D1AA? D2 isn't that widespread I don't think? Theres one league in my area that does alright but I wouldn't say the teams are making that much. Not even close to D1 obviously. There's a lot of D1AA around here though and I don't think those teams exactly burn the house down either, I'd be surprised from what I've read that are actaully making any money at all. Football is very expensive and has a huge budget, so I dunno.

I dunno. I'm talking about actual D2 schools. Yeah, they don't do as well as D1 schools obviously, but our school does very well for a D2 I would think. Then again, we are good year in and year out. Undefeated this year, 4th round last year.

The football budget is so much money though, a lot of schools don't really mind losing money since a lot of times it draws in a higher male enrollment so its kinda just a trade off really.
