View Full Version : Am I an asshole for loving Smackdown?

I don't see Smackdown getting any love here, then I watch it and I love it. They don't seem to approach the low card matches like Raw does, the fueds I see make sense and are developed. The commentary reminds me of early-mid Raw with King and McMahon. I've only been able to watch for the last couple of monthes or so, but I have already started to respect new guys I'd never seen before like Kennedy.

I know I'm marking out a little bit, I love King Booker and the way he pulls off his gimmick as well as some of the other small gimmicks like Jimmy Yang Wang and The Boogeyman. But that can't be all can it.

Does Smackdwon really not rule, am I an asshole? Or does it just get underrepresented here?

SD does have some good matches and King Booker is great.

It's biggest problem is that its Smackdown.

ECW > SmackDown >>>>>>>>>>>>> Raw.

So no, you're not an a-hole for liking SmackDown.
Compared to Raw, it's gold, and actually makes sense week in and week out.

Even if some of the angles (Chavo/Vicki/Rey) and wrestlers (Boogeyman) suck, you can watch SmackDown one week and not be confused at what happens the next barring a backstage calamity.

I didn't bother to watch tonight, but I generally find it better than any of the other shit on WWE TV.

SmackDown! is far and away the best brand the WWE has. If I were running things, SmackDown! would have RAW's timeslot, ECW would have SmackDown!'s, and RAW would have ECW's.

I've been loving Smackdown for the past 3 or 4 months now, I've just loved every show. Like this week for instance we got King Booker vs Lashley and Finlay vs Batista. A couple of weeks ago we had Chavo vs Rey and Booker vs Batista. The best Raw can dish out is Flair & Piper vs Orton & Edge. I mean, come on. And Smackdown also seems like it doesn't like wasting time on pointless segments, and they just bring on match after match. Whilst on Raw you're lucky to see like 4 matches, and they're usually slow and awful/pointless (Chris Masters vs King, Umaga vs Maria, etc.)

Smackdown is by far the better brand. They're PPV's are way more worth the value than Raw's asswell.

Agreed. People who hate on smackdown are people who haven't been watching it lately so don't know what they're missing or just think its cool to hate what is percieved to be the 'b show'. I think there is less politics being played on smackdown, and this is the reason why it appears to be more watchable than Raw.

Atm, SmackDown! is better than Raw. Raw has been going down the shitter in the last month with the shit they've had(i.e. K-Fed) and SmackDown! has improved greatly over the last few months with entertaining matches and fueds. I'd say SmackDown! is the best brand right now.

JBL is by far and away the best colour commentator in some time. Michael Cole is far from awful, but he's not the best play-by-play guy available to the WWE.

I wouldn't lose any sleep if the WWE replaced Michael Cole with Josh Mathews.

Mr. Nerfect
11-11-2006, 06:14 PM
Hell, you know what they should do? Turn Eric Bischoff into a colour commentator, let Jim Ross retire, promote Joey Styles to RAW once again, move Michael Cole to ECW, and fill Michael Cole's spot with Josh Mathews. So the commentating teams would look something like this:

RAW:
Joey Styles & Eric Bischoff

Heat:
Joey Styles & Todd Grisham

ECW:
Michael Cole & Tazz

SmackDown!:
Josh Mathews & John Bradshaw Layfield

Cole & Tazz had good chemistry, Mathews and JBL would be fantastic and Bischoff would make a pretty nifty commentator if you asked me. The tension between him and Styles would be enjoyable.

I think that SD is the 2nd best show at the moment and ECW is the best...I really hadn't guess'd the outcome of the RVD/HOLLY vs SHOW/heyman...saying that I am confussed to some of the stuff that SD has been having lately...I mean why didn't kane help Taker this week or the other way around in Cyber?

Then there is Raw...I think raw has sucked since Cena came over...not becouse of cena...but becouse all the rivalries have been stupid and well they fired the Bishoff

I got sick of Eric Bischoff, and welcomed the change, but with so much McMahon in recent months, Bischoff is like an angel descending from the Heavens.

I really think he would make a decent colour commentator. I'm not sure if he'd be willing to do it, but he'd be way better than Jerry Lawler. Didn't Bischoff work as a commentator in WCW? How'd that go?

You put Raw first???? You serious????

Now with all due respect to everyone who has gotten into a wrestling ring in the name of putting on a show ('cept Nick Mondo) here's why I put Raw first...

SmackDown seems to have the wrestlers that for the most part I don't care about. Yea, Benoit, Kane, and Regal are awesome, but King Booker, The Miz, and The Boogeyman really makes SmackDown look like a live action comic book.
ECW has an assortment of random WWE guys, some old school ECW wrestlers, and a hand full of people who were either pulled off the streets to wrestler or taken out of a catalogue.
TNA is full of people who are washed up, over rated, and part retarded. Since Kurt jumped to TNA I've lost a lot of respect for him, Joe seems to have charisma cancer, I dislike Steiner on so many levels, but you gotta love <strike>The Dudley Boyz</strike> team 3D.
There's a reason why I've been watching Raw for a little over 10 years. HBK may not be in his prime, but damned if he isn't funny. Raw's tag team scene might not be at its peak but it's getting better. I understand that hearing DX's sing-a-long week in and week out is getting old, but if they put Edge and Orton, cleanly, at SS that'll be freakin' amazing. And this drek with K-Fed is pissing me off. As much as I hate to admit this it's the reaction that WWE wants me to have.

So Yea, I'm serious about putting Raw down as the top show. That's all the wrestling I need, the other shows I fit in if I have the time.

Heh, it's the opposite for me. Smackdown has the wrestlers I care about more than Raw. Also, I don't rely on star power as a reason to attract me to a show, i've always said that: Raw is for people who like big names, where as Smackdown is for people who like well built storylines/ more attention payed to midcard feuds, etc.

As for the wrestlers that make me watch smackdown, well they're:

Batista/Booker T/ Lashley/ kennedy/Benoit/ Finlay/ JBl(now a commentator but makes sd worth watching during its worst moments, and I mean that)London/Kendrick/ kane and more recently the Undertaker.

The only wrestlers on Raw that i'm interested in are;Edge/Randy Orton/Jeff Hardy/Shelton&Carlito. And you know what? They still don't impress me half as much as the smackdown guys do with their wrestling ability, other than Shelton. And then add the fact that two of those that I care about are being misused, makes me care even less about Raw. How the fuck Nitro has the IC title instead of Shelton i'll never know.

I have liked Smackdown for a long time now. I always enjoy the show, even though it is regarded as the B show. I like London/Kendrik as the tag champs, and they were on their way to have some semblance of tag team division. I was really enjoying the royal court, and still enjoy Booker as champ along with his King gimmick. To me Raw always comes off as a disapointment, and Smackdown, while it may not always deliever a great show, never feels like a waste of time for me.
