View Full Version : Playstation 3 Recall?

I don't know if this is happening anywhere else, but my company was doing some special POS polling at various locations throughout Chicago (and the country) and there was a problem at one of the Best Buy's here on the southside.

Apparently they thought that there would be 120 available at the store for this morning's opening. Only 10 came in due to factory problems and then 6 of those 10 (after sale) had to be returned due a limited (as Best Buy said) recall of some units due to bad processors.

Did Sony rush these out too quickly or is this really just an isolated problem?

Anyone else here anything?

Oh yeah.... and it's NOT fully backwards compatible.

Nah, this is more widespread than that.

I've seen post upon post at GameFAQs and other places talking about how buggy this thing is.

One guy's overheated after like, an hour of playing. Another person had a disc to be completely destroyed by the console. All of this sounds familiar though.

It IS fully backward compatible but they are having problems with about 200 games. They know about it and have been working on it and are going to release a firmware update.

It is more than 200 games. Did you read the story?

Kind of odd that theyre having trouble with backwards compatability seeing as the emotion engine chip is actually on the ps3 motherboard. :wtf:

No, I didn't. Last I knew it was 200 so that's what I went by.

Either way it's being fixed. I'm pretty sure that there's nobody out there that camped out for the PS3 to play some backward compatible games the first day anyways.

From one of the posters on gamespot.com talking about how he got mugged

Hi my name is Corte' Campbell. ANd I was mugged in the entrance of Buckland Hills mall in manchester,CT.
It was by 4 or 5 black guys. (I am black myself, incase someone thinks i am racist). As i picked up my reserve at 10 am this morning at my eb games inside the mall. I walked outside and saw about 5 guys. I walked past them and they got up and followed me they were waiting for me to get to my car, but i knew something was up and tried to run back inside the mall for safety. Being too slow(carrying the PS3 and games) the surronded the door. (no police nor security in sight and otherjust walked by not careing). They try and grab the PS3 out of my hands and say "Give me that **** I didnt and a struggle broke out after much punchs to the head and ribs i feel over the sidewalk and into the road pleaing for help.

FInally a couple helped but it was too late as thier gettoway car was already running and drove off. 1 guy fell out of the car cause it was moving to fast and started to run. Polic caught him and that was that. In the end I lost 800 dollars Eb nor the mall will refund anymoney and even if they caught all the guys there is a slim chance of me getting back my products. All and all i was thankfull they didnt have any weapons. But i am upset angry. 800 dollars is alot to me and i was saving up for it for over a year. i traded in all ym systems games and movies for nothing. I have never been robed before and until this time I was against guns.

Now things have change I felt weak( even though it was 5 on 1), and felt like there was nothing i could do and that there will be no compensiaon for it. Right now my girlfriend is calling the mall gamestop corprate and sony and if I can get anything or something. That saying crime doesnt pay is complete BS. I am seriously thinking about buying my first gun and learning how to use it to protect myself or laws about it. This story is not a lie believe me or not I dont care I just felt like venting and sorry for the curse words. Make fun of me if you want too I dont care. I might be on the news I was interviewed. and no I am not the guy who got shot in pluntmen , CT.

If they had a gun I would have prob died, after this I dont know i am extremely depressed. If anyone has extra systems could i please by one off of you at a reasonable price ? I am not sure what kind of money I can scrape up but i can sell one of my comps and 1 of my tvs and see what i will have then. i just feel like **** I work real hard and save for this and it is just gone and i dont even get money back or anything. http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/shared/emoticons/sad.gif

You know, the 360 isn't fully backwards compatible either.

Anywho, I'm definitely getting a PS3, and I'm definitely waiting a bit... Probably until at least March (Europe release, so we should be able to see how buggy the 3rd release is before buying it)

What? Yes I knew that. Don't know what that has to do with anything though.

Actually was going to quote Slugs, as it was a response to him, but ended up quoting you. Can't be assed into changing it. It wasn't actually directed at you, just a response to his "The PS3 isn't fully backwards compatible" part.

Are you kidding? Sony made it so every retard wants it, despite forewarnings of design flaws. There were already known issues before release, and Sony has a history of design flaws in their initial run (AKA Let's get it to the market, and worry later), and people are still rioting over this bullshit.

I'd agree, if we didn't have fucktards who rioted over game systems. Injuring someone over a game or game system>waiting in line for one, hands down.

Has the Wii had any problems yet?

DS
11-24-2006, 05:48 PM
The system update that you have to do, if you try to connect to the internet or really do anything besides play a game, was bricking some systems in and gave a really vague error message. Only way to fix it was to send it to Nintendo. And according to a story posted on here the wrist straps may be a little shady on durability. Haven't really heard anything other than that.

UmbrellaCorporation
11-24-2006, 06:06 PM
The Wii bricking update thing is a small percentage thankfully. Considering that all new consoles have some sort of errors in a small number (or large number in Sony's case), I'm pretty pleased with the way that launch went personally.

Even if the problem happens with your particular Wii, Nintendo is replacing it or repairing it free or charge with little to no downtime, which is pretty awesome. :y:

Kane Knight

It's still a problem, and that's what I asked.

It's also disheartening that Nintendo systems of late have had more and more flaws.

Can't say I disagree with you at all on that one. I had high expectations that the Wii wouldn't be plagued with some of this stuff. Granted, plagued may not be the best term to use, since it's only a minority, but it's still shoddy based on Nintendo's past track record of excellence. Still feel far more comfortable with the Wii hardware than the PS3/360 hardware (and I've had my 360 for quite some time). Personal preference though.

Nintendo's still the best company out there for hardware reliability, but they have gone down a couple of pegs. The DS Lite had a huge run of faulty systems (Varying systems with cracks, screen glitches beyond either yellowing or dead pixels, and several where the D-Pad or buttons don't work), and so on, and Nintendo initially tried to ignore all the complaints until they blew up in the news...

They're above the curve, but they used to be an unrivalled basion of quality products. now there are lots of flaws in their systems, though thankfully the Wii seems to only have a few, and the DSL wasn't as widespread as things like DREs on the PS2. Still, it's disheartening.

...And like the bitch I am, I'll buy it anyway.
