But what do you think the card will be for WrestleMania 23?

There's really not a whole lot to grasp right now which can lead to something probable so I don't know.

Yes, that is 13 matches on the PPV and 3 dark matches. I think Hogan/Show,Taker/Kane,Melina/James,HHH/Umaga wouldn't be long matches.

There will no doubt be roster changes, injuries, political changes and what-not, but here is a random card pieced together for WrestleMania:

WWE Championship
Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels

-Edge defeats John Cena for the WWE Championship at New Year's Revolution, and loses it to Triple H a few weeks later at the Royal Rumble in San Antonio. Shawn Michaels manages to win his third Royal Rumble, without being the clear favourite, and neglects to jump brands and expand DX. Triple H takes exception, and we get a renewed feud.

World Heavyweight Championship
King Booker vs. Batista vs. John Cena vs. Rob Van Dam

-King Booker continues to find ways to hold onto the World Heavyweight Championship until WrestleMania, where Theodore Long takes advantage of King Booker's ego, and opens SmackDown!'s main event to include a RAW and ECW challenger. Since Booker is the "Champion of Champions", it seems fitting SmackDown! would have such a match. John Cena wins some kind of tournament on RAW to earn the title shot, and Rob Van Dam is allowed to enter on behalf on ECW. Prior to the build-up of the match, Paul Heyman forbids Rob Van Dam from challenging for the ECW World Title. Heyman informs RVD that if he brings the World Heavyweight Championship over to ECW, all will be forgiven, and RVD can thrive in ECW once more.

ECW World Championship
Test vs. Bobby Lashley

-This doesn't seem like an epic main event, but why not go with it? It's Lashley's second WrestleMania, and it isn't Test's first dance. Rob Van Dam wins the ECW Title in the Extreme Elimination Chamber, and Test wins the belt from RVD at the Royal Rumble, with some help from Paul Heyman. RVD is prevented from getting another ECW Title shot, so he puts his name forward as ECW's contender to the World Heavyweight Title, and Lashley steps forward to challenge for the ECW Title at WrestleMania.

Andre the Giant Tribute Match
Hulk Hogan vs. Big Show

-Doesn't really require much explaining. I'd just like to say, I hope Big Show goes over here.

WrestleMania Streak vs. WrestleMania Streak
The Undertaker vs. Edge

-Edge is something like 5-0 at WrestleMania. The second most impressive WrestleMania streak looks to consume the legendary 14-0 streak of The Undertaker. At least, I think that is where The Undertaker is sitting. I don't really care.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match
Jeff Hardy vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Chris Benoit vs. Matt Hardy vs. Sabu vs. CM Punk

-Two RAW guys, two SmackDown! guys and two ECW guys. Just some insane interpromotional fun.

Street Fight - Winner Gets Melina's Services
Johnny Nitro vs. Mick Foley

-Mr. McMahon is rumoured to be taking on Foley at WrestleMania, but this match has more benefits. Nitro is getting quite the push, so it's quite probably. I can see Mick Foley striking up a friendship with Joey Mercury, and getting him involved in the feud. Throw in Vince McMahon, and you have yourself a tag team match at Backlash later that month.

WWE United States Championship
Mr. Kennedy vs. Vito

-Vito's edition of Playgirl magazine will be coming out around this time, so you know the WWE is going to be pushing him hard. There was someone else I had in mind for the title shot, but I can't remember who they were. So there may be someone out there better than Vito for the role.

WWE Intercontinental Championship
Ken Doane vs. Johnny Jeter

-The first Intercontinental Championship Match to take place on a WrestleMania card in five years. Two guys that could really benefit from the rub deserve to be in the match. Doane and Jeter are two men I see remaining on RAW post-Spirit Squad split, and two men I see being instrumental in the Intercontinental Title scene in coming months.

WWE Tag Team Championship
Paul London & Brian Kendrick vs. Finlay & William Regal vs. Chavo Guerrero & Nick Nemeth vs. Reality Check

-A little explaining: The Spirit Squad are going to be splitting up soon. I can't see all five members remaining on RAW. SmackDown! needs tag teams, and one of the simplest ideas for a tag team is putting Regal & Finlay together. When Chavo Guerrero was Kerwin White, Nick Nemeth debuted on Heat as his caddy. Why not pair them up again, this time as a more serious heel unit? Mike Mizanin is here to stay, whether people like it or not, so putting him in a role slightly more tolerable, such as filling the tag team division, is a good move. He and Mitch of The Spirit Squad are very similar personalities. They both have charisma, but it isn't that likeable charisma. More that obnoxious-style that John Cena is infamous for. Have Mitch jump to SmackDown! as "The Mitch", and team him up with The Miz. London & Kendrick should make a year as WWE Tag Team Champions. There's no one worthy of ending their streak that really need the belts. This match also mirrors SmackDown!'s main event.

WWE Women's Championship
Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix

-The Women's Title Match at WrestleMania 22 was arguably the best on the card, I don't see why they wouldn't go through with another this year. I don't know what the storyline will be like, but this is the match most likely to take place.

Interpromotional Battle Royal

-A match utilising all the WWE Superstars not already on the card. Kane, Randy Orton, Carlito, Hardcore Holly, Gregory Helms, Mike Knox, Monty Brown, Mike Mondo, Montel Vontavious Porter, The Boogeyman, Umaga, etc. Have some crazy prize, like $2,000,000, on the line.

There have been tag title dark matches before at wrestlemania

I think there was one at XIX

James Steele
11-23-2006, 09:26 AM
Yeah. Both sets of tag titles haven't been defended at WrestleMania since WrestleMania XX, and even those were just clusterfuck fatal 4-ways. WrestleMania XIX had Team Angle vs. Los Guerreros and Chris Benoit & Rhyno for the SD! tag titles on the PPV and the RAW Tag titles match on heat with Lance Storm & Sean Morley vs. RVD & Kane.

James Steele
11-23-2006, 09:28 AM
Dark Matches could also be matches airing on the Internet Heat or some special on USA right before WrestleMania airs on PPV like Heat used to.

WWE Title:
John Cena w/K-Fed vs HBK.

I seriously think that they will use Federline to turn Cena heel. I also think HBK is due for another serious title run at this pont, and WrestleMania seems like the right place to start it.

World Heavyweight Title:

Batista vs. Lashley

This one I thought was a lock. Now however I think it could still happen. If Batista turns heel, like I think he needs to. He could accept another invitation from Paul Heyman to go back to ECW, and since he'll be a heel, the fans can boo him, and well, it'll be expected by him, y'know? He could then cost Lashley the ECW title, for whatever reason. As a favour to Paul Heyman, I dunno, it doesn't really matter all that much. Lashley goes on to win the Rumble, and challenges Batista for the title at WM.

"Special" Attraction Match:

Hulk Hogan vs. The Big Show or The Great Khali

Yeah, this one just seems like it's going to happen. I don't want it to, but it will.

HHH vs Ken Kennedy

I can't find a place for HHH on the card really, since I don't think he'll be in the main event, but he could be a good foil for Mr. Kennedy in an interpromotional match.

Buried Alive Match:

Edge vs The Undertaker

Maybe I'm over booking this one a bit, but I really want to see the Undertaker give up his streak before he retires, and I can't think of a better place to retire the character than WM.

Both guys are undefeated at Mania, and I'd like to see Edge go over here and slam the casket shut on the Undertaker, but this time no thunder, no lightning, no "By GAWD, the Undertakers STILL ALIVE!!". Just silence. I dunno, I think it would make an awesome Wrestlemania moment, and would give Edge something to carry on with.

Grudge Match:

Mick Foley vs. Vince McMahon

Some say Nitro instead of McMahon, but I doubt that Vince will leave himself out of WM again this year. Still could be decent all in all.

Intercontinental Title:

Kenny vs Ric Flair vs Chris Masters vs Monty Brown

I really had no idea who to put in here. So these guys were thrown together at random.

US Title:

Chavo Guerrero vs Kane

I imagine Guerrero will win the US title, and I don't think that Kane has ever really won a "big" Mania match, so I'd give him the US title here.

Money in the Bank:

Randy Orton vs Carlito vs Sabu vs CM Punk vs Chris Benoit vs Gregory Helms

I don't think they'll put Orton in the ME this year, but will set up for it in the coming year by having him win the MITB. The other guys just seem like natural fits in the match. Maybe I'm stretching things on Helms and Punk, but I think they fit.

Raw Tag Team Titles:

World's Greatest Tag Team vs The Hardy Boyz vs Cryme Tyme vs MNM

This is pure fantasy in my mind. It could happen, I guess. Like if Jeff Hardy, Johnny Nitro, and Shelton Benjamin start feuding in some manner, it could be drawn out into a big tag team match at Mania.

Cruiserweight Title:

Paul London vs Brian Kendrick

If they bother to put the Cruiser title on the line this year, I imagine that this is what the match will be.

Yeah, I don't know how plausible this card is, but I think that it would be a decent show if it did happen.

Somebody's Gotta Die

My card is designed for a 5-hour show from 7 to 12...

Have the preshow involve the 10-man ECW tag match...

WM kicks off with Chavo/Finlay for the US title and progresses from there...

I think Cena/Umaga and Batista/UnderTaker are main events that can definitely work, with Austin/Hogan in between and CM Punk/Lashley before it...

If this card would be carefully organized and placed together, it could make up the most exciting, jam-packed WM of all time, perhaps going down in history as the best...

I, for one, am a firm believer in the fact that Umaga/Cena has the potential to be effective if kept at a reasonable length, and I also feel UnderTaker and Batista can have a decent big-man match...

Austin/Hogan would be a classic just for the crowd reaction and nostalgia...

CM Punk-Lashley could be an outstanding hardcore bout... Trust me...

With a solid undercard that includes MITB, RVD-Rey, Test-Sandman, Orton-Edge, and much more, the show has the opportunity to be a classic...

The objective, of course, is not to drain out the crowd and possibly starting the show earlier and having an intermission would be ideal...

I do feel, however, that with the inclusion of 3 prominent brands into one supershow, all these matches would be needed to put over the existing talent without leaving out some of the guys that might carry the show at the end of the night...

Chances are, however, that we'll get a usual WWE show, far from interesting, and nothing to mark the next WM in history as one of the greatest...

That remains to be seen though...

Impact!
