View Full Version : A moment with you RoH marks...

First off, identify yourselves. And second off, can you please answer me, why is it whoever is the champ at the moment always seems to be on the tip of everyone's tounge. Sometimes I doubt half the people who say they love RoH really watch it, they just say whoever is on top right now is having the best matches of anyone. When Joe was Champ, all RoH marks could say was he was having the best matches bar none, then Austin Aeris was the best talent in the world and TNA was fucking him over, then it was all about creaming your pants for Punk, now it seems anyone who is a smart mark is gushing over Danielson. I've gone back and watched some of those all time classic matches, and honestly, most of them are ok, but nothing to jizz your pants for. Now I understand that since I don't fallow RoH I can't be expected to understand the build up or truely appreciate the atmosphere, but come on. It's just too perfect that any time there is a RoH World Champion he is the best in the world. At least spread some rep around before you dump it on them. I hear Homocide is aces there, why don't I see more love for him, or do we have to wait til he wins the belt before we can praise and over hype him?

Wow, started out as a simple legit question and turned into some mark bashing there at the end. Oh well, answer it anyway!

OK Blitz, since you seem to be more knowledgeable and I have only watched RoH's big money matches, which group of marks is more annoying in their "Pop 4 N E Thing" attitude...RoH or TNA?

TNA. At least ROH marks are going nuts for some very good wrestlers. TNA marks are popping for the James Gang.

Hey! First of all, the James Gang is now called the Voodoo Kin Mafia and they are a legendary tag team...and second of all...they don't even pop for them. :(

I can't vouch for Aries or Joe as champ, as I wasn't watching ROH then, and haven't watched enough old stuff.

Danielson on the other hand is damn fucking good. Overhyped, sure, but he's still the shit. He has that odd "in match charisma" that a lot of guys lack. He's a "smart" wrestler, and do some damn athletic shit when he needs to, can work well with just about anyone, etc, etc.

With that said, he's not everyone's cup of tea. He's not horribly different from people like Lance Storm, Benoit, Dynamite Kid, etc.

The first time I saw him ironically enough was a DVD I random was given from RoH's first show where he, Daniels and Low-Ki had a three way match, quite frankly if it wern't for Daniels that match could have been put on Velocity for all I care.

Mind you, that match was A. really spotty, and B. over 4 and a half years ago.

That match was spotty, but I'll be damned if anyone tells me that match wasn't one of the best triple threat matches of all time. It wasn't Benoit, HBK and HHH at Wrestlemania 20, but it was damn close in my book.

Triple Threat matches on a whole tend to displease me as I always feel like they turn out spotty or the injuries sustains take forever to heal from...but even for a Triple Threat, it wasn't anything that special. IMO.

And that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. There's never going to be a match in wrestling that everyone is going to love and nobody will criticize.

I want to talk about your original post, but I'm starving, so I'll try and get to it after dinner.

I watch ROH regularly but I wouldn't consider myself a mark. Basically for the guys you listed at the times they were champion they were pushed to the moon for it, which is something Gabe excels at - he absolutely makes the title seem the most important thing in wrestling. Don't get me wrong, a *lot* of ROH fans use hyperbole to a ridiculous extent, and I've been guilty of it too.

-Back when Joe was champ he was still very fresh and there wasn't really anyone else wrestling his style. He helped the company through a period where they nearly went out of business and basically carried them for 18 months.

-Aries probably didn't live up to it but he had some good matches and he is (IMO) the best all-round talent they have.

-Punk's reign was weird, it wasn't especially long or great but he himself got tremendous heat out of it, mainly due to a) it being completely unexpected and b) working the smark mark crowd when everyone knew (and he acknowledged) he was going to WWE

-Dragon's reign isn't as great as some people say but he has definitely had some stellar matches and has grown signficantly in the last year. Try out the matches against Jimmy Rave (4th Anniversary Show), Nigel McGuinness (Weekend of Champions Night 2 or Unified) and KENTA (Glory by Honor V Night 2) for examples of some of his best work.

Basically, between how ROH push the champ and the track record of previous ones after they dropped the title (i.e. Joe, Aries, Punk, even Gibson to a degree) whoever holds the title is arguably as close to a 'sure thing' to make it big as you can get on the indies. That plays a huge part in people's perceptions of how good they actually are.

Homicides supposedly next in line for the belt,so im sure you'll here plenty about him in the months to come.I really wouldnt say people jumped on Punks nuts once he became champ, since he only had 4 or 5 title defenses and had the belt for less then 2 months.Punks title reign got hype just because it was one of the biggest heel turns seen in any fed.Check out Death Before Dishonor 3 to see how he went from one of ROHs most loved superstars to one of their most hated.Aries on the other hand was champ for quite awhile and had tons of 5 star matches.

I didn't start getting into ROH until about a year ago, so I've only known Danielson as my champion. At first, I hated the shit out of the guy. With all of the "flashy" talent that ROH offers, Danielson just bored me. But then I started actually paying attention to his title defenses, and I gained a lot of respect for him. He goes all out every night. Look at his string of title defenses leading up to and through the UK shows. I'm not going to agree when he claims to be the best in the world, but I have no problem agreeing that he is in the top five.

Allegedly, and I'm just going by what little I've picked up from RoH, when someone is the champion, then they are legitimately the best in the company....that promotes a rigged sport.

I haven't watch ROH in a while but they always pushed their champions and contenders well so much so that the champion seemed like the most important person in the company which kinda makes sense.

lol, Tpww's #1 Chris Hero mark.I gotta know whats the whole reason why you hate ROH. I mean I just don't get it. Your claims are off the wall and inaccurate, (if you've seen ANY indy other than ROH you'd see REAL quick how good their production values are.) I just don't see where you're coming from, care to shed some light on this?
