View Full Version : The problem with DX

DX does come out with some good stuff every now and then, but it's obvious that there's somethign wrong with them. Some will say it's because we've "been there done that" me personally, I'd say the problem is that HBK is not the leader. Originally he was and he was pretty edgy, now he is HHH's side kick.

Thoughts.

Is that actually true? Never seen it documented anywhere.

They're still entertaining to me, but it's just that they're a bit too old to try and be young and rebellious.

I think the problem is that when they did it back in 1997 it was fresh and new, and Triple H hadn't really accomplished anything yet. Now both he and HBK have dominated RAW for the past 5 years, so watching them team up just feels repetitive.

Their "jokes" fall on deaf ears. Nobody wants to see a fat white guy in a thong dancing around the ring. And HBK is too Christian to be DX. They also don't really have anyone to feud against. This DX/Rated RKO thing has been decent, but still feels kind of contrived.

The problem is that this is a nostalgia trip. The top faces in the company are doing nothing more than reliving their past every night, at the expense of a lot of other talent. Sure, some of the skits make me laugh, but that's not why I watch wrestling. I want some good feuds, and DX has done little to provide me with that.

The OVW scene was one of the funniest segments of late. That's kind of a bad thing, though.

DX can still be funny, but they're generally not all that good. It's mostly because they're older, Michaels has neutered himself, and they're in the antithesis to the "attitude Era." This whole "Generation" of wrestling is so soft, so safe, that DX couldn't thrive even if they were 10 years younger.

I think they're suffering from "John Cena syndrome", where they get too much assist and support from management to come off us "high risque". Like when they were chasing Jonathan Coachman around, and it played the Western stand-off music. What the fuck? It wasn't that funny, it was cheesy and there is no way DX could have done it without the assist of a guy in the production truck.

Also, back when DX was doing their stuff, it was new, and shocking. Now it is commonplace. They need a new catchphrase like "Fuck it", and really try and push the envelope. Adding some younger members probably wouldn't hurt, either. Matt and Jeff Hardy seem to be the obvious choices. Maybe have Candice Michelle join just for the tit-factor. Paul London & Brian Kendrick could join on SmackDown!, which means Ashley joins. CM Punk can be added on the ECW side of things. It'd be sweet if DX became a three-brand stable.

No I'm not, I would just like to see some report from some monkey that says 'Shawn Michaels snorted before coming out and rolling around the floor and picking his nose with the Canadian flag on Raw'.

Or something of that ilk.

The problem with D-X is simply that it's the most phony thing I've ever seen in my life. These two have been outed again and again and again and again as backstage politicians and company yes-men by virtually everyone in the industry. While that may not hold much water for the casual audience, their kayfabe characters still don't work. Triple H has been booked over the last four years as a snobbish aristocratic playboy along the lines of Flair or DiBiase (particularly during his run with Evolution). HBK's been pushed as the born-again veteran who's tried to turn things around and do things the "right" way. And then, all of a sudden, they're supposed to be these 'rebellious and edgy' pranksters from ten years ago? Trying to "stick it to the man" doesn't really work all that well when you've been making yourself out to be "the man" for the last couple of years.

More than reminding me of the original D-X, they remind me of the old guys who still hang around my college despite graduating years ago. It starts off kinda funny, but then just gets pathetic.

...no, but seriously, DX vs. nWo would've been good.

Regardless of if their funny or edgy antmore...I'm sick of them because of how solidly they've been put over people.

Best way to establish The Spirit Squad? A demolision of DX coudda done the trick. What did they do? Repeated beatings in handicap matches.

Survivor Series was the worst example of this. It's one thing to put two huys that have no interest in winning the tag titles over the entire tag "division" (Haas/Vis, Cade/Murdoch, Highlanders) bu they got to beat on guys from the other two brands as well! That match was a waste of time IMO.

DX losing to the Spirit squad would be ass.

Make them clever or make them good. Not both. I've seen this before where the faces were smarter and better wrestlers than the stupid sucky heels. It was back during the Invasion.

When it comes to killing off rising heels, DX is the new Sheriff Stone Cold

Kane Knight

It doesn't matter if they're clever or not. DX often outwitted people, but still got theirs. The DX Express. Taker tricking them. Etc.

There's no chance that they'll get beat down, or even outsmarted once. They dominate, and are untouchable. That's bad TV.

The only thing that I don't like is that they walk to the ring and says the same stuff every damn week...the whole "are you ready? NO I SAID ARE YOU READY?!"
I am sick of it...do it in the damn commercial breake!
But else...I am enjoying seeing HBK runing around like a retard...but hey I didn't follow wrestling back in the 90's so I have never seen DX before they came back...

It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't occupy so much damn TV time. I mean, each hour only has, what, like 6 or 7 segments (between the breaks, that is). How about making the most of it by doing something different in each segment?

DX actually doesn't take up too much time. They have about two segments per show a lot of the time. That's no more than other main eventers get each show.

Are they really trying to be 'young & rebellious' though?

To me, currently, DX is almost a parody of itself. Shawn is playing the jester to Triple H's King of Kings. Michaels is playing pretty much a retard, quite funnily though, especially the Rumble comment a few weeks ago. Trips is just doing his normal thing, while Michaels does all the funny stuff because Trips tells him to.
