MTV will begin airing ten episodes of "Wrestling Society X."
The premier episode will air on January 30 at 10:30pm both eastern and pacific time.
BLS is the featured musical artist in the premier episode, as well as Zakk doing commentary with the wrestling announcers. While I appreciate MTV's efforts to get a wrestling show out there, the people that watch MTV aren't wrestling fans... I don't think this will be very successfull...regardless good news.

That's a rather sweeping statement isn't it? I've watched Mtv before, so already I'm going agianst your projected demographic

It might be an unfair generalization, but I'm willing to stand by it until the ratings come in.

Yeah, but that was WWE. They have followed Vince and co. everywhere. Doubtful that the WWE audience will be there. Hey wasn't the WWE on Spike TV?

Shit, I've seen them... umm, the only thing I remember off hand was *higlight the following to read* Vampiro beat Sean Waltman for their heavyweight title.

Last Thursday, I was lucky enough to attend the final two tapings of a new wrestling promotion in Hollywood, CA . The tapings were for Wrestling Society X (WSX), better known as Mtv's wrestling promotion. I originally got the tickets through the www.IWantMyWSX.com website and was curious to see if the promotion would be any different from the usual WWE or TNA product. It certainly was, and in a very good way.
I read a review online of the first WSX tapings before I went to the show. The review was unfavorable, but at the same time it didn't list any matches that were held during the taping. That has to be a first, even for wrestling. The author complained that there was too much wrestling for Mtv people and too much Mtv for wrestling people. I disagreed with this. As a wrestling fan, I really liked the matches I saw. Yeah, they were pretty short, but no shorter than the average match on Raw – and they were all pretty exciting. From where I was on the main floor, there was a nice mix of wrestling fans and other people who obviously don't watch much wrestling. Hopefully these people will be watching the show when it airs on TV. It seemed like there was is chance it may catch on because there were some people I talked to that were paid by MTV to be there for just the first two days, yet they came back on the last two days just because they enjoyed the first shows so much.
There was some sitting around waiting for things to start. Do I wish there was a standup comedian or magician during the down time while they moved cameras? Possibly. Hopefully this will be corrected for the next series of tapings. They had to move camera towers after the bands played to the other side of the WSX Arena or Bunker (I think I heard the ring announcer call it the Bunker over the mic.)
Another thing I thought of while watching this was the whole time thing. I usually just watch Raw and fast forward thru ECW and Smackdown. This show is only 30 minutes; it will fly by like nobody's business. In a time where most shows feel like they go on forever, WSX will be different at least in that regard. 30 minutes should be nothing, and with some of the great stars they have there it should fly by and make people want a longer show. Overall, I found the shows I saw taped to be quite good. I attended both shows on the final day and here's a report of the matches I saw.
Someone named Styles P performed. I feared that it was Master P, but thank god it wasn't.
1. Luke Hawx & Alcatrazz defeated Arik Cannon & Vic Grimes with Nic Grimes
A good tag team match; Luke is Luke of Alter Boy Luke fame. Alcatrazz is a big huge dude with a mostly bald head and a braid. Together they make a good team with a smaller speedy guy and a big powerhouse. Arik Cannon and Vic Grimes together as a team was pretty interesting. Vic is huge live. Nic Grimes (I think that was her name) in their corner and was wearing a mask. I heard someone mention she was Sara Del Ray. Highlights were when Cannon wrestled with Luke, and Alcatrazz throwing Vic thru a number of light tubes that were taped together to say "WSX" by the announcers stage on the set. Did I mention the set yet? It was very cool looking live. Sorta like an invite only version of the ECW arena with graffiti, broken tables, barb wire and the like. I think Styles P liked the show as he did commentary with the announcers for the entire show.
2. 6-Pac defeated "Award Winning" Scorpio Sky
Scorpio Sky's gimmick similiar to Kurt Angle's old gimmick where he comes out with two plaques from the 2006 Class of some high school in the area. I believe one of them was "most likely to succeed." He needed it in this match as 6-Pac (announced as such) basically took him to wrestling school. Sky got some offense in, but didn't use the power of the plaques to defeat 6-Pac. I think one of the plaques broke during this, which cause Sky to start crying upset about his precious trophy being broken. Fun match though, Sky looked good and 6-Pac was a hit with the fans.
3. Jack Evans vs. The Human Tornado went to a time limit draw
Wow. A great match by two of the biggest high flyers on the independents today. I was looking forward to this once Tornado was announced after Evans. Lots of back and forth from both guys here, they traded dance moves, wrestling holds, and some high flying. The end saw tornado having Jack in a dragon sleeper, Jack flipped over Torando, but Tornado kept it on as Jack attempted to reach the ring rope. Suddenly the bell rang; the timekeeper who sat on the side of the stage said it had gone the 10 minute time limit. Both guys looked unhappy about no clear winner. Jack put up his hand and got the crowd to chant, five more minutes. The crowd seemed on edge after this, and really wanted this match to continue, but the clockwork orange guy who did the ring announcing came in the ring and said they weren't going five extra minutes. The 10 minutes was quite great though and I hope to see these guys have longer matches down the line.
4. Trailer Park Boyz defeated Keeping It Gangsta
The Trailer Park Boyz are Spyder Nate Webb and Josh Jug Raymond. I believe Raymond is Josh Abercrombie of IWA-MS. They were accompanied to the ring by "White Trash" Johnny Webb. Keeping It Gangsta was Babi Slymm and Ruckus. They came out to the ring with a ladder that looked all sparkly. Good tag team match. Webb and Raymond work well as a tag team and did some double teams into the corner. Slymm is huge live, hitting a monster clothesline which almost took Jug's head off his neck. Ruckus hit some crazy moves of his own. I really liked this match.
5. D.I.F.H. defeated That 70's Team
D.I.F.H. are the tag team of Tyler Black (from IWA-MS) and Jimmy Jacobs (from ROH). Jimmy came out with his cell phone out waving back and forth to the crowd-Tyler moshed in front of us. Jimmy kept on looking at the girls next to me, blowing them kisses and trying to get their numbers. It was like there wasn't even a match going on. Tyler seemed to get frustrated with Jimmy's lack on involvement, so he tagged Jimmy in, picked him up and lauched Jimmy into a spear on Joey "Magnum" Ryan. The crowd really liked booing That 70's Team but I for one liked Disco's dancing and Joey taking time out of the match to rub baby oil on himself. Match ended with Tyler putting one of the 70's guys (sorry Mike Awesome) I mean 70's Team on his shoulders, and Jimmy coming off the top rope with a senton while on Tyler's shoulders and Tyler hitting a move after Jimmy and Tyler hit heads for the pin. Afterwards Jimmy nearly jumped into my arms by the girls, as Tyler actually had to lift him and carry him out. Jimmy waved to us and told the girls to "call him." DIFH was quite entertaining live.
Break, they fed us Quiznos. We waited for show two. I think I saw the guy who stars in Monk. We got back and watched New Found Glory play a song. They were fun to see live.
6. The Cartel (Ltl Cholo & B-Boy with a mask – they called him Delikado) with El Hefe & Mongol defeated Los Pochos Guapos (Aaron Jesus Agulera & Kaos) in a Piranha tank match when Kaos accidentally ended up in the tank.
Wow. This was sure something to witness live as they brought out this huge tank full of fishes and the object of the match was to submerge your opponent in the tank for a three count. What I really liked about this was how they played to the fish outside the ring. There were several times where it seemed that guys were almost totally in the water or very close to getting in there. A few of them got their head or arm in the water, but their reactions to the tank were all quite priceless. The Cartel are two guys I like on the California indys put together for WSX, and it works espically with El Hefe (huge older latino guy with glasses and a handlebar mustache and tattoos, like he walked straight out of the Grand Theft Auto game) and Mongol (bald stocky tough looking guy). After several teases and some big moves, Kaos ended up in the tank and Mongol and Hefe covered the tank with a wooden palette for the win. This was quite frickin great and the crowd loved it afterwards by giving Kaos & Agulera a standing ovation
7. D.I.F.H. defeated Luke Hawx & Alkatrazz, Trailer Park Boyz and That 70's Team in a four way elimination tag.
Very good match, every team shined here. One impression I got out of the show is WSX has more tag teams then WWE and TNA combined! The Trailer Park Boyz were over and it was sad when Keeping It Gangsta and them started brawling causing them to get knocked out of the match. It ended up with D.I.F.H and Hawxatrazz which saw D.I.F.H. win the match.
Break, they let us hang out with some of the wrestlers as they assembled the cage. I talked with Luke Hawx and Ruckus, both were very cool guys and they both seemed very excited about the project.
8. Team Dragon Gate (Hiroguchi & Yoshino & Sakoda) defeated The Filth & The Fury (Teddy Hart & M-Dogg) in an Exploding Cage Timebomb Deathmatch
This was without a doubt the most insane match I've ever seen live and my ears are still ringing from the explosion at the end. Wow. Get this setup, a steel cage around the ring and a scaffold above the cage. If that wasn't insane enough for you, the sides of the cage would explode if a wrestler was thrown into it. The match started as M-Dogg was entering the cage the Dragon Gate guys handler Sakoda took out M-Dogg which left Teddy alone with both dragon gate guys locked inside the cage. The Dragon Gate guys were great to see live with their double teams and high flying offense. M-Dogg climbed up the cage and came off the top on both guys, later him and teddy did some flying moves off the cage. In all there was three people thrown into the cage, at one point I swear that M-Dogg's tights were on FIRE due to the explosion. Teddy, M-Dogg and even the referee got thrown into the cage. The ref was the worse for wear as he was powerbombed into the cage. It should be awesome on television the crowd was totally into it doing their "X" chant as opposed to "this is awesome" with putting their hands together in an X (like new jack does…sadly there was no new jack here). All 4 teased being rammed into the cage, at one point M-Dogg looked like a goner but he wrapped himself up in the top and middle rope like someone grabbing onto anything for dear life. Teddy somehow got on the top rope and jumped to the scaffold and could have touched the plunger to start the time bomb, but instead he did a shooting star press onto the dragon gate guys. Wow. I'm still thinking it was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Eventually, Yoshino (I think) got to the top of the scaffold and hit the plunger as the sinister sound of an alarm started and we were advised to get back as Teddy, M-Dogg and the fallen referee were in the middle of the cage, the whole thing exploded. I don't know how they did it, but the WSX Arena was full of smoke. Wow. Something I will never forget, it was a hell of an end to a great but different night of pro wrestling. I guess anyone who wants to rip on this should maybe watch an episode or two before doing so as based on watching these shows-it should be an enjoyable product. I'm really looking forward to these shows.

Just so you guys know, they got one of their commentary guys off an ad on Craigslist. From what I understand he has a VERY limited knowledge of wrestling exclusive to watching a couple of Raws back during Attitude.

I'm going to check it out. Wrestling is wrestling, and I won't write it off until I see it. Plus, I'm a huge fan of a lot of the guys involved.
