DISCUSSION - The Rock needs to "know his role" for Wrestlemania 20

In my opinion, The Rock needs to know his role for Wrestlemania 20........in other words, I think he needs to be a HEEL. :naughty:

The problem with The Rock being a face, is that the fans will turn on him much too quickly upon his return. There will always be too many fans who will genuinely think he 'sold out'.....and as result, will 'boo' him (and the 'sheep' will follow). Another problem with The Rock being a face - is that his material will be 'passe' (and this will make him look stupid). The catchphrases were cool back in 2000/2001, but they are way outdated now.

As a heel, The Rock can be more creative on the mic. The Rock can also use his catchphrases to piss people off. The Rock's character as a heel is also MUCH more fresh.

Even if the fans decide to cheer The Rockl, I think it's better for the WWE to keep him heel.

Ultimately - you know that The Rock will put someone over before 'leaving' again. Would you rather see The Rock job as a face (:(), or as a heel?

Think about how 'over' the opposing face would go.


Here's what I would do.

1)Have The Rock seemingly return as a face (TO SMACKDOWN), only to have him turn heel later on in the show by showing allegiance to Mr. McMahon (his explantion will be that he loves the fans, but he loves McMahon more because he got him the movie deals).

2)Have The Rock get some decent victories on Smackdown....or on a PPV (i.e. over Angle, Benoit, or Undertaker). This makes The Rock look like he still 'has it' (and is not a washed-up past-his-prime wrestler), and it will make his inevitable 'job' look more convincing for the guy going over.

3)Have Cena then 'step up' to challenge The Rock. Cena then goes over The Rock at Mania (or whenever The Rock's last match is).


Other potential opponents for The Rock.

-Triple H (Rock would be the face in this one)

-Shawn Michaels (one 'legend' that The Rock has never fought).


p.s. I do not want to see The Rock in a ****ing tag match at Mania. Sorry. If Rock and Foley fight against HHH and Foley, have it be on Raw....or on another PPV. Not Mania. At Mania, Rock should go one on one.

I agree with you.

I actually find Rock more entertaining as a heel than he is as a face. He did a very good job with his heel turn, I'd love to see him turn heel again. In his next return in January, it would be great if Rock turns on Foley.

Just like it happened with the Rock n Sock connection years ago when Rock turned on Foley and went into a heel.

That does sound interesting. The Rock turning on Foley during a match with HHH and Orton.

My only problem with Rock/Foley, is that no one 'goes over' after the match....since neither wrestle on a full-time basis anymore.

If the Rock were to return to Smackdown as a heel then he should return as a surprise opponent for John Cena like they did with Hogan last year. Perhaps Cena could really piss off Paul Heyman and get some big wins.

Then Paul announces to the world on Smackdown "John Cena, at Wrestlemania, your opponent will be none other than, The Rock!"

Off of what Heyman said above, The Rock can pick up some wins on Smackdown, him and Cena can duke it out on the mics for a while (which would be brilliant) and finally their feud culminates at Wrestlemania where The Rock puts John Cena over, giving Cena main-event status. A sort of "Pass-the-Torch" angle.

Problem with that, is that the fans would cheer loudly at that. Furthermore, The Rock would probably get more cheers than Cena in that scenerio.

a)cheer him if he's heel.
b)boo him if he's face

I think the ONLY way that The Rock can be firmly distinguished as a heel, is if he turns on the fans by doing something (and showing more allegience to Vince and/or Paul Heyman).

I dont see why they have to force the fans one way or the other.

The Rock is The Rock, heel or face, he's the same guy, and he's going to act like a jerk to everyone and fans are going to respond how they will. You look at Monday and he had the crowd in the palm of his hand. Now, will that reaction stay if he's on TV for a few weeks, maybe, maybe not.

My feeling is that they should just pick an opponent for him, and just let the fans decide who they want to cheer for. If for example its Cena, and the fans side with Rock, thats fine, all they have to do is have Rock do a handshake after Cena beats him and they are both babyafaces. Its really not that tough.

Ive said this in other posts, but I dont need to see him against HHH or Foley, those fueds have been done to death. HBK is interesting, but I dont think its any kind of draw. Cena to me makes the most sense (as well as Randy but apparently his dance card has been filled), but the rumour is that wont be happening. Rock was right there's nothing really for him to come back to, but having him on the show in any capacity is a good thing.

Is it me or does anyone think that Rock will NOT be going against John Cena? Rock doesn't want to look like the heel, that's why reports are saying that's the reason why he doesn't find his feud with Cena beneficial.

I think they'll just stick him on RAW to feud Randy Orton. The whole feud could revolve around Rock backing up Mick Foley (due to the one time appearance with La Resistance)
