Nintendo Recalls All Wii-motes After Class-Action Lawsuit by Thompson* http://forums.cheatcc.com/Themes/default/images/Star0.gif

As we reported earlier this week, gamers (http://forums.cheatcc.com/blogs/news_by_lindsay/archive/2006/12/01/323231.aspx#) have been complaining about unexpected problems concerning the Wii-mote. One of the problems frequently aggravating players is a flimsy wrist strap that allows the controller to fly aimlessly through the air if the player loses his grip.
Reports around the country tell of broken wii-motes, cracked TVs and windows, and now human injury.

While playing Wii Baseball, a twelve-year old in Michigan swung a bit too hard. The wii-mote flew out of his hands and into his grandmother’s eye. The eighty-nine year-old woman was rushed to the hospital where she was treated for a black eye.

Catching wind of the case, Jack Thompson has coerced the woman to start a class-action lawsuit against Nintendo. “As evidence has proven since the days of Pong, video games (http://forums.cheatcc.com/blogs/news_by_lindsay/archive/2006/12/01/323231.aspx#) kill and this elderly woman’s injury by her seemingly innocent grandson just proves that video game (http://forums.cheatcc.com/blogs/news_by_lindsay/archive/2006/12/01/323231.aspx#) companies are determined to turn all children into killers,” Thompson claimed. “Nintendo claims it is family friendly, but this injury is sure to be the first of millions that can be traced to the new Wii console.”

Nintendo is currently recalling all wii-motes until they can create more secure wrist straps. Insiders at Nintendo have stated that the new wrist strap technology will be similar to prison handcuffs.

True or not, I wouldn't put it past Jack Thompson to try to push that kind of lawsuit.

So wait, is this real? Because I think anyone who loses their grip on the Wii-Mote should be removed from the gene pool, really. :D

Just sounds too much like BS. Who is honestly that fucking incapable?

It's as fake as the Ruse Report. But check out Hero's post in Fake Razor's prostitute thread in casual. You'll get a kick out of it.

Funny thing is, I thought it was a suit by Thompson Electronics before I clicked for patent infringement or something.

Everything before the paragraph that starts "Catching wind of the case,..." is real. The original Wii controller straps were only 0.024" thick, and are being voluntarily recalled, and anyone who sends their 'Wii-mote' back to Nintendo will recieve it back with a beefed-up, 0.04" wrist strap.

The Wiimote straps are not being recalled. Nintendo believes that they are fine if you use them as intended and don't put the extra stress on them as some people are. You can get up to 4 replacement straps right now that are stronger if you feel like you need them, which you should either way, but it's not a recall.

I love Nintendo's whole deal. "Oh, these aren't defects, but if you think they are, we'll replace them."

It sounds kind of ridiculous but I understand why they are doing what they are. The straps can really hold a lot of pressure and are pretty safe if you don't fling your arms around like an idiot. If they are willing to replace 4 straps however, they should just go ahead and send them all out just to be safe. Already class action lawsuits against them because of it.
