View Full Version : Who's the Next Champ?

I know there is the Who's gonna take the title off Cena thread half a page down, but I want to ask a much broader question: Who is the Next Champ. Now I'm only talking about the four world titles but you can expand this to be about which ever title you see fit. I might as well, who knows by the time I finish this. I bring this up because when you look at there are no believable contenders in contention right now. But if you had to make a serious guess what would it be?
Gonna try and do this from hardest to easiest, might not work out:
Bobby Lashley's ECW title- This is tough. I really don't see a legit contender right now. Punk is coming out of jobber status and into the mid card meeting RVD and Sabu who are heaing in the opposite direction, so I can count all three of them out. Plus they're babbies. Test seems to be tied up with Punk, but he could easily be moved into a program against Lashley as soon as next week really. Same for Holly. After that on the Heel side you only have what? Kevin Thorn and Mike Knox? Both of them I see jobbing to Lashley in the near fututre, but still. Not really people to be feared. Not only do I not know who can beat Lashley, I don't know who can fued with him. But if I had to wager given the present situation and the current roster I would say Test. Though I'd imagine that someone currently outside of ECW will take it from him.
John Cena's WWE Championship- Another REALLY hard one. But not as bad due to the larger roster. No one right now is in any position to win it. And wont be for some time. But I'd bet on Triple H getting the gold for the 11th time by beating Cena. Seems like the most logical choice to me, and if you ask my opinion we are long over due for a Triple H run as champ.
Batista's World Heavyweight Championship- Not so easy here either. Batista looks like he is at the beginning a strong run. Booker T isn't getting back any time soon (if ever.) Finlay is out of the qusetion. And no one esle will be ready for serious title contention before Mania. So I'm gonna have to say The Undertaker is the next World Heavyweight Champion.
All three WWE World Titles have pretty stiff competition.
Looking at TNA's NWA World Heavy Weight Champion in Abyss I think it's much clearer as to who is the next champ. Strong arguments could be made for Sting, Angle, Joe, and Christian. But even with the higher number of contenders, I don't think it's as hard as the others. Logically Sting is the next in line on ego and stroke alone. Storyline wise Cage cost Sting the title, Abyss cheaply beat Sting for the title. Sting has everything to prove. So logically Sting is the man to go to. And yet I still don't think that's where they're going. I think Christian will win it (maintaining his streak,) and job to Kurt next (the streak killa.)
So my next champs are:
ECW: Test (though it's more likely to be a RAW/SD! reject out of no where.)
WWE: Triple H
World Heavyweight: The Undertaker
NWA World Heavyweight: Christian Cage
================================
Ouch. Tell me ECW doesn't look rough next to that. (Imagine if you changed Cage to Sting or Angle.)

Cena to HHH just brings us back to 2004 again. It would be like Hogan taking it off Yoko in 93. And in all honesty, I see nobody on that entire roster who looks like they can legit beat Cena right now. Cena has been built up so strong that everyone else just looks silly. Even HHH lost like 3 or 4 times to Cena.
Edge was a good candidate but DX has made Rated RKO look like a G rated show. Orton has lost so many times the past few months.
I'd say you keep building Kennedy and he takes it from Cena.

Seeing how my interest is dramatically declining, I'll say, that I will stop watching Raw if Kfed wins.
I rarely watch Smackdown, occassionally remember to tape ECW, and can't sit through an entire Raw. So the next logical choice is for me to not watch Raw. Kfed win = me not watching after all those loyal years. I'm not talking tough either.

Before I reveal who I think the next champs are going to be, let's just state for the record, I indeed have lost any resemblence of hope for wrestling.
RAW's next WWE Champion: Kevin Federline (the January 1 show, I think Cena will win it right back....but still...)
SmackDown!'s next World Heavyweight Champion: Ken Kennedy (I'm thinking WrestleMania)
ECW's next ECW World Champion: CM Punk (I suspect we have a 7 or 8 months reign of Lashley on our hands)
TNA's next NWA World Heavyweight Champion: Sting (pins Abyss at the next PPV, than begins a fued with Cage)

I honeslty couldn't careless about wrestling anymore but here's my choices, wont give any reasons though.
Raw:
WWE title: Umaga
Ic title: Shelton Benjamin
Tag titles: Cryme Tyme
Smackdown:
World title title: Booker T
Us title: Chavo guerrero
Tag titles: Regal& whoever his partner is, forgot his name atm.
ECW title: Fuck knows. They might aswell have K-fed win it.
TNA world title: Christian.

RAW:
WWE Championship: Umaga
WWE Intercontinental Championship: Shelton Benjamin
WWE Women's Championship: Victoria
World Tag Team Championship: The Hardys
I agree with M-A-G. The WWE would so put the WWE Title on Umaga. The rest of their main event is paper-thin, or occupied elsewhere, and while I doubt the WWE will keep the gold on the Samoan Bulldozer for long, I can definately see it happening, in an attempt to lend him credibility.
Shelton Benjamin winning the WWE Intercontinental Championship will happen next week, in my opinion. I originally thought it'd be Ken Doane, and even had his name up there, but I can definately see Benjamin getting it. Jeff Hardy is the current Champion, and they are teasing a World's Greatest Tag Team reunion. I see Charlie Haas costing Hardy the match, leading to a Triple Threat Tag Team Match at New Year's Revolution: The World's Greatest Tag Team vs. The Hardys vs. MNM. I don't expect Shelton to hold the IC Title heading into the PPV.
The Women's Title is kind of hard. Mickie James vs. Victoria could go either way, and although I don't think the WWE should take the belt off Mickie so soon, I don't give them the credit to write an interesting storyline. In my world, Beth Phoenix would attack Victoria, giving her the disqualification victory, and creating a three-way feud for the Title. In WWE-land, I see Victoria winning the belt for the third time, and THEN Beth Phoenix returning to challenge for it.
I see The Hardys winning the World Tag Team Championship in the very near future. I originally had Cryme Tyme picked, but I think they'll take the belts of Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin at the Royal Rumble.
ECW:
ECW World Championship: Rob Van Dam
Eh, this one was really hard. It's probably going to be either RVD or CM Punk, just because the WWE seems to be apologising to the fans for December to Dismember. I see it being RVD, in a desperate attempt to get him to re-sign with the WWE when his contract comes up. Consider them a threat or not, the WWE does not want TNA to get both Kurt Angle and RVD.
SmackDown!:
World Heavyweight Championship: Shawn Michaels
WWE United States Championship: Chavo Guerrero
WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Seth Skyfire
WWE Tag Team Championship: Harry Smith & TJ Wilson
Alright, so I cheated a bit with this one, and went with who I'd like. Big deal. Shawn Michaels winning the Royal Rumble and feuding with a heel Batista is probably the only WrestleMania-y thing the WWE can get going in the next few months. My next pick to win was Kane, and we all know that isn't going to happen, so HBK it is.
If Chavo Guerrero doesn't win the WWE United States Championship at Armageddon, there was no reason for this feud to continue. There was no reason for Benoit to not be wrestling Paul Burchill, or some other newcomer who could benefit. Guerrero must be the next US Champ.
Jimmy Wang Yang is a possibility to de-throne Gregory Helms, and I considered it, but I get the feeling we'll see Helms lose the belt at the Royal Rumble, probably in a Cruiserweight Open Invitational, much how he originally won the title. Yang is over with the fans, but does he have the credibility? I could see it, I'll be honest with you, but I think we're even more likely to see Jamie Noble attack Yang at Armageddon, giving the challenger the DQ win, thus building to the clusterfuck at the RR. A newcomer wins the belt, a young guy in development named Seth Skyfire. A feud between Helms and Skyfire ensues.
Yeah, if they are brought in together, The Stampede Bulldogs will likely go to RAW, but come on, SmackDown! needs teams badly at the moment. You have the amazing teams of yesteryear going at it on RAW, why not have the teams of tomorrow clash on SmackDown!? I love The Blue Bloods and all, they are so fucking awesome it is not funny, but London & Kendrick are walking a fine line between being over and being forgotten. If they lose the belts to these guys, I think we'll see them fall into obscurity. I'm pulling for Regal & Taylor to lose to the Champs, before Smith and Wilson are brought in.

TNA:
NWA World Heavyweight Championship: Christian Cage
TNA X-Division Championship: AJ Styles
NWA World Tag Team Championship: Ron Killings & Lance Hoyt
I wouldn't have said Christian Cage, but Destor convinced me. Cage vs. Angle is going to happen, Angle wants it, Cage probably wants it, and the fans will eat it up. Advertisements for Turning Point have put over Angle's quest for the NWA World Heavyweight Title. Who's he going to beat for it? Samoa Joe and Christian Cage are the only two realistic possibilities, in my opinion. OK, maybe throw AJ Styles in there, but I don't think Styles wants to be NWA Champion, again. This also explains why Cage was added to the title feud. I mean, one could argue that he was added to the match so Abyss could pin him, which allows Sting to continue his chase, but that ends Cage's streak, and is just silly. Yes, Cage vs. Angle for the NWA Title at Final Resolution, with Angle making Cage tap, ending another streak.
The other TNA Championships are pretty much random picks. AJ Styles will likely defeat Rhino at Turning Point, what with Russo booking? He loves Styles, and he loves heel Styles. With Christopher Daniels probably retaining against Chris Sabin, a feud between the two over the TNA X-Division Championship isn't too hard to see. Chris Sabin could win the belt, and then we could get an Ultimate-X Match at Final Resolution (or simply a 3-Way Dance), but I'm not too sure how strong Sabin has looked. I'm going to go with Styles winning the belt at Final Resolution. Cage vs. Angle and Daniels vs. Styles? This sounds like a PPV that could compete with the Rumble.
The NWA World Tag Team Championships are even harder to predict, because there are currently no teams that are hotter than The LAX. I went with Lance Hoyt & Ron Killings just because. I've heard a lot about them recently. Apparently Christy Hemme wants to manage them, and both her and Hoty want to braid their hair. Killings and Hoyt are pretty credible, and could realistically win the belts off LAX without making them look like complete bitches. It keeps Killings happy, too. Maybe. I was so close to saying Lance Hoyt & Kid Kash, with the former Champion Cousins reuniting with Paul Heyman on the booking team, but I decided against it.
