This is a Japanese movie about a class of ninth grade students who are dropped on an island with weapons and food. They need to have only one survivor before the 3-days time limit ends, or else, everybody who's left dies.

I really loved that movie because it is well done. I heard that USA didn't want to distribute it or something because of the violence it carries, so it may be a bit hard to find. Has anybody else seen it? I'd like to hear what you think about it.

I've got it here, but as usual I haven't gotten around to watching it yet. It's one of the next few on my list though, right after Mystic River. I've heard great things about it and after reading this I'm really looking forward to watching it now.

Great movie, but the book is MUCH better. The manga is also good, and tokyopop is translating them and releasing them bimonthly...

There's also a sequel, nowhere near as good, but an interesting add on to the initial story.

Anywho, it is a badass movie, I actually did a college term paper on it :)

It's one of the greatest movie I ever saw. It is THAT good.

I got on video a year ago. Not bad. Totally crazy-assed at times.

But it does get unholy cheese sometimes, when a couple may be dying and they say some cheesy assed stuff before they drop dead.

" You're the coolest girl I know." - Then the girl dies... I hate that line, I'm sorry

Anyways, I really liked the movie, but it was quite obvious what was going to happen.
I liked when the guy got shot at the end and everyone thinks he's dead, then he gets up and answers his phone.

The film rules. That psycho girl is great, exactly the same kind of character she plays in Kill Bill.
The sequel is already out in Japan I think, but the original director died during filming so his son took over. Looked cool. In the sequel your put in pairs so if your partner dies you die. :)

I have it on DVD. Brilliant movie.

Battle Royale 2 is getting a proper cinema release in Britain. Will probably only be in independant / oriental movie theatres though.

I also have it on DVD, i've never been a fan of movies with sub-titles, they really put me off, and i never enjoy them, so i firstly borrowed the dvd off a mate and approched it with caution, because i've never liked overseas sub-titled films.

But, Battle Royale is now one of my favourite films of all time! Its that dam good! Definatly try and get a copy of it or see it!

I'm not sure if they will how it up in canada but over here in the U.K its on the sci-fi channel occasionally so you might wanna keep a look out on there! :y:

Probably a bad translation. I often watch american movies dubbed in french and the translation is so bad sometimes that it makes me hate the movie.

They had a lovely special edition release the first week it was out on DVD. HMV exclusive I think…came in a tin box or summat although I can’t remember if it had many extras as far as the film goes.

Movie is fantastic though. The violence is extreme at times, Danny Electric and everyone else will know what I mean if they remember the knife to the groin scene…ouch…crazy bitch.

Also, Takeshi “beat” Kitano makes an appearance as a deranged school teacher.

Quick questions, if anyone knows, it'll be much appreciated.

Why is it in the Battle Royale series ( 1 and 2) that the actor who plays the teacher is himself.. Takeshi "Beat" Kitano's part is Takeshi Kitano, and in the sequel, the teacher's name is the name of the actor who plays him... Furthermore, apparently the parts they play are over-acted versions of parts they normally play for other movies? Any idea why this is going on?

That girl is a crazy psycho but so hot. I love the way she plays exactly the same character in Kill Bill. Lol. Crazy school girl.

I told my friends about this movie today. Being Australian ninth graders we found this movie quite discussable. We talked about how we would pretend we were dead than ambush some people, etc. Methods of survival, you know. I was surprised how into it we all got. I'm rather excited about seeing the movie, as I think it would be rather interesting to see what the different characters do. You could probably judge what a character's like by how they survive.

Anyway, was this movie very gory or disturbing? Or was it just sort of a fantasy sort of action type thing.

Huh I had a look and didn't see this topic. Anyway great movie. I wanna see the second one now.

www.battleroyalefilm.net was a site I've found that deals with all things battle royale.

That site is really good. I really feel like watching that movie. The general idea of the movie seems pretty sick, but I like the way it all seems to be made to really get people to hate the adults (at least to my understanding). I think there could be a whole series of Battle Royales, as each one has endless possibilities.

Got that a couple of weeks ago from a store in Nottingham. I thought "cool, Special Edition", then when I watched it, it was the same as the one they showed on the Sci-Fi channel about a year ago. Except when they showed it on Sci-Fi it wasn't advertised as the special edition...
Oh well, the extra features mainly kick ass :)

I saw the movie first. THe book is much better, but I think you'll appreciate the movie if you see it first. The reason I say this is due to the book having more character coverage, backstory, etc, the movie misses out on some of it. The book is basically the total package, where the movie is great for a somewhat shock visual effect.

Personally, I saw the movie, read the book, and now I"m reading the manga.

Cool. Thanks for that. Would you say watching the movie first makes it more enjoyable, as it isn't as predictable as if you read the book? Then you go and read the book for the more detailed view.

I think you summed up what I was thinking better than I said it :) The book goes into a lot more detail... THe only thing the book lacks is Kitano's character. You'll understand what I mean after you see the movie.

OK I just watched it this morning, such an amazing film.

I feel sorry for the guy who got stabbed in the balls :'(

I felt the ending was alittle bit of a let down, I dont know why, I guess I was hoping for an all out winner :-\

Either way, this film totally ruled

Cant find the alternate ending for the film though, it says to put disc 2 in for the extras etc, but when I do, iI cant find it
