View Full Version : I have two serious questions on TNA...

Now, I know I shit on TNA from time to time, but I watched today and it wasn't HORRIBLE. I do, however, have two questions.

Question one: Who the fuck are the faces and heels? I know the running joke is that there are no heels in TNA except for Jarrett, but after watching tonight I could only tell solidly that Christian is a heel (AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THAT'S TRUE!) (Also, I skipped the LAX/AMW match.) Angle is acting like the heel in his actions, but even so, I don't even know what the fuck he is.

Question two: What the fuck is the point to this Nash thing? Seriously? I got a laugh or two out of it, but it seems like a waste of TV time to me in all honesty. Is this to establish a new belt or is it just to get Nash on TV. (I forbid ToVo from giving any biased answers here.)

So yeah, these are two serious questions, not trying to make a joke here or anything...

As far as the faces and heels go, I'm just as confused as you are. I gave up on trying to discern that information a long time ago.

The Paparazzi Prodcution segments seem like a way to give peronsality to some of the X-Division guys. I feel that this has been a problem for a long time, with all of the X-Division guys feeling like nothing more than carbon copies of each other with different ring attire. If it serves to push Shelley and Starr, I'm fine with it.

Question One: LAX are solid heels. Jarrett of course is heel. Even Christian ets huge face pops despite acting totally heelish. It's the Orlando marks that make it impossible to tell the difference. Basically they are all smart marks and think it's cool if they chant and cheer for heels. ESPECIALLY when it comes to the X-Division. No matter what they do, the X-stars will get pops.

Question Two: Well...oh...I can see I'm not wanted here...

. . .I really don't mind if there are a shit load of not clear faces and not clear heels. I never really minded, I guess it makes it harder for them to develop, but it helps me keep my mind on the match. Besides, at first it was a nice repreive from stupid ass WWE gimmicks.

In my opinion, it is simply to get Nash on tv. That is fine with me, btw.

I would like to state despite being singled out as a person who shouldn't answer this question it's a great idea. Before Kevin Nash came into the X-Division, most of the X-Division was bland character work at best. Since Nash's arrival...

*Alex Shelley has become a bonified TNA star
*Austin Starr went from Austin Aeris, the man nobody could tell apart from Roderick Strong to who he is now...
*Sonjay Dutt has actually had moments of being entertaining
*Senshi has actually got somewhat over (something he has not been post-Low Ki)

And why is it? Because Kevin Nash is freaking fantastic. Yeah the entire thing is just an excuse to get Nash on TV...but what does that tell you that just sharing screne time with Nash is some of the best stuff these young up and commers have ever done, and it's made them into identifiable characters.

Kevin Nash.

faces and heels would be established much clearer and easier if TNA didnt have the same crowd every week.

TNA heels who the fans will actually boo...

Jeff Jarrett (rumored to return as a face)
LAX (Homicide gets little face pops every now and then)
James Mitchell

Everyone else has at least 1/3 of the crowd popping for them. Even Robert Roode (a future MEGA star IMO) gets tit pops from Brooks.

Faces and Heels =/= gimmicks. I can see why you'd want a reprieve from the latter, but without the former, there's little to glue a match together.

Again, this is for the most part opinion that has worn down. I think when I first watched TNA I was just glad to see good wrestling, I didn't have to worry about who was a cowboy or a zombie or anything. That's no longer my opinon especially since the "good wrestling" is now gotten much more boring, but I can still remember that I thought that way long ago.

I'd say Christian is a solid heel. Gets major heat for whatever he does. Yeah, he still gets some chants for him during actual matches, but not as much as a face would, and they usually get drowned out.

Other heels are Chris Sabin, and it looks like they have turned James Storm and AJ Styles heel as well. Sabin and AJ still get chants though. (Though AJ hasn't been heel for long and hopefully can improve this. I thought his match with Rhino was done perfectly at the PPV) Storm it is too early to tell how he will do.

Other heels who get legitimate heat with no or very little chants for them are Robert Roode, and The Naturals. Of course, no one cares about them so that could be why.

So, in conclusion, the only solid heels are Christian and LAX.

Everyone else is face to tweener.

I thought that for five minutes, but even then, it was less that the wrestling was good, and more that the wrestling was different. It's still ass, it's just a different ass, and when you've had Vince sitting on your face for years, even another ass'll smell better for a little.

Speaking of the Orlando marks, I think someone would actually fart while cutting a promo in the ring and they would chant "THAT WAS AWESOME!" causing Don West to get excited at the announce table again. :shifty:

I'm kinda glad we can't tell who is meant to be a heel or face, it makes it seem a bit more real I guess, and as someone said earlier, it makes you focus more on the match and makes it a bit less predictable.

I disagree with this sentiment that heels and faces are unnecessary in wrestling. What reason do I have to care about the winner and loser of a match if I'm indifferent about both guys? Or if I like both guys? Or if I hate both guys? Or if I have no fucking clue what I think about them because their character development sucks? Heels and faces are fundamental, and definetly not expendable.
