Weapon Shots

I have never figured out how they work weapon shots. How do they get those steel chairs, singapore cans, etc., to work without realistically harming the wrestlers? I am asking this because my dad thinks that everything but the ladders are foam, and, of course, I have set out to prove him wrong.

The sounds are real and the damage to the items are real. Most wrestlers protect themselves with their hands (especially with chair shots) except on important shots or even just because they're tough fuckers. Foley, for example, rarely covered up I've noticed.

Most everything they use is 100% real and unmodified. Although I wouldn't be surprised if they modify the tables to get rid of a brace through the middle.

Show him the Mercury spot and then show the aftermath pictures from the Ladder match, that's as real as it gets.

Steel chairs used in wrestling are generally constructed of a lighter-weight aluminum rather than the usual solid steel. They are NOT the same type of chair you would find at a High School recital (at any decently sized/funded HS in the U.S.) or a hardware store. If they were, most wrestlers would not make it to their next match.

The tables are constructed of a sturdy kind of compressed wood chipping. They are NOT the same tables as you would find... well... anywhere else. They are specially designed to break easier, while still having strength enough to break the wrestler's fall before hitting concrete. This is evidenced by numerous botched spots in wrestling that have broken tables in half with somewhat minor effort.

The trash cans are also made of a rather lightweight aluminum material; definitely not your standard metal trash can that you would buy at a store. Those are extremely dangerous when smashed/compressed as they can create very sharp edges.


Most everything else is real. Even Hogan's fireball.

Yeah, there are several techniques for making fire in different effects.

As far as the weapons, none of them are real. Those steel chairs are tinfoil (Even the ones the timekeeper sits on), the tables are cardboard sawed in half for extra flimsiness, the bats are of the wiffle variety. LAdders? They're spun out of that cotton candy shit they use to make glass, coloured with boot black and silver paint. Thumb tacks? They use snowcaps.

And while I'm at it, the turnbuckles are made of chocolate.
