I've ripped on J.R. here quite a bit.(It was I who sparked the "xxxxx isn't made of chocolate!" craze) but JR is still leagues above Taz.

The guy stumbles over every other sentence, and sometimes cant even think of anything to finish his sentence, so cole has to finish it for him.

He also randomly breaks out into showtunes.

Terrible.

I always wanted to smack him everytime he said "HERE COMES THE PAIN!" whenever Brock came out. I know the pain is coming, sir, I don't need you to point out the obvious. Other than that, I don't see a problem with him. Well there's also his need to enforce his brand's 'superiority'.

At least he has the element of new school. JR and King are very funny, but they're certainly old school. It's cool to hear from someone whos a former noteworthy wrestler who has some charisma. And though I agree he sounds like a meat head at times, its nice to see him genuinely excited about wrestling.

I love how Tazz genuinely marks out sometimes, like to Undertaker or Hogan entrances, or at wrestlemanias, or to a great match like Benoit/Angle.
Him and Cole were a damn good team, and I also liked when Tazz joined JR and King for a 3-announcer team at split brand events and stuff.

Jeritron
12-26-2006, 02:46 PM
Another cool thing I didn't add about Tazz, he doesn't neccesarily play the heel or face at the booth. He just plays a former wrestler who still loves wrestling, and yes sometimes he acts stupid but its cool that he just plays it down the middle and doesn't do the "I root for heels and puppies" or "I root for faces and/or Austin" bit, which has gotten a bit stale.

Yes, he is terrible. But when you have him next to Michael Cole he doesn't sound so bad.

Compared to almost every announcer they've had he sounds pretty damn good.

They've had, semi-recently, Layfield, who's gold, Styles, who's gold but usually buried in shit (ewwww, caked on Lawler!), and Heyman (And that'[s going back a while) who was gold.

Tazz is also more competent than a lot of people, which makes him more tolerable.

Problem is, he's next to Styles, and he sounds like a gibbering idiot.

Are you crazy? West is the worst announcer in the history of pro wrestling. And I seriously mean that. THE WORST. Somewhere there are two fucking retarded people in a bum fight and some guy is screaming about the end of days down the street, I would classify that guy screaming about saving your enternal soul as at least 3 or 4 times better an announcer than Don West.

Infact, I go so far as to say Don West might make my top 10 worst things about Professional Wrestling...in any catagory...ever...

Now on to the topic at hand; Tazz. He is pretty bad, but I think I would take Tazz over mordern day JR. He's annoying as fucking hell, but something about him is charismatic on the mic...even if he has only 10 phrases used over and over...

"I've been in the ring with him, he's tough."
"Whoa. Whoa. Whoa! WHOA!"
"Here comes the pain." (Doesn't use without Lesnar)
"Big Time Ups."
"Not For Nothin'."
"Wine 'Em, Dine 'Em, 6-1-9 'Em" (I fucking HATED that one)

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I kind of liked it. I mean, it did lead to the title of a video game, and it's good to have commentators and wrestlers mesh. I mean, it makes the commentators kind of more prominent.

Tazz isn't a great commentator, he's not horrible, though. It's got to be tough being out there for an hour and put over matches under the WWE style. When you really look at it, Tazz is the third best announcer the WWE has.

I still think they should do a commentator trade. Have Joey Styles and JBL work together. They'd blend so well. The best play-by-play guy in the WWE, and the best colour commentator in the WWE. They also have different personalities, and it's easy to see that working to their advantage. Styles and Layfield would be the best possible team the WWE could have.

Michael Cole and Tazz just worked together. They just did. On ECW, Cole gets to be live. In other words, the move from SmackDown! to ECW can be looked at as a promotion. The WWE are obvious big on him, so why not? He only has to talk for an hour, and they can justify it by saying the WWE wanted a more "sports entertainmenty" commentator for the new vision of ECW.

Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler are just awful, but I guess we just have to accept they will be around forever. Well, another year at least. By then ECW will probably fold, and Michael Cole could be brought to RAW with Tazz, and they'll likely have a three-way commentating team. I know it's impossible to really predict, and it seems a little odd, but I see it working, in a weird sort of way. After all, the WWE is punishing Josh Mathews for whatever reason.

Why the fuck they don't have Josh Mathews work Heat is beyond me.

Ross isn't a bad announcer even now. Its just his fuck-ups stand out more because they're so damn weird. Part of the problem is King has become absolutely deplorable. They don't mesh well anymore. Maybe if King turned heel again(which he should be at all times).

Tazz doesn't seem right away from Cole.

Styles doesn't seem right without... say, a Cyrus or a Heyman as the color announcer (without Heyman, we wouldn't have had "GORE! GORE! GOOOOOORE!")

JBL is gold, and works well alongside Michael Cole (who has gotten WAY better over the years).

JR and King... have both been in decline. King has gotten less annoying over the years but it's strange to hear him not totally kiss the asses of every heel that comes through the ramp. He also isn't like, trashing John Cena, which the 6-year-ago King would have DEFINITELY done when Cena did something like insult Lita, for example.

JR, though. I put in a tape of WW(F) from 6 years back, and the decline is definitely present. It might be because he's had to call a lot of CRAP, being on Raw.

Coachman...would be a cool announcer, if he wasn't playing heel.

Tommy Gunn
12-27-2006, 02:41 PM
I like Tazz, everytime I hear "It's all good in the hood!" it cracks me up, don't know why.

JR is the worst play by play guy in the WWE, he makes so many mistakes that King has to keep correcting. His voice get's more slury all the time, he's starting to sound more and more like Cartman. I remember hearing he suffered a stroke some years back, but when a horse starts chocking up the integrity of the show quality, it's time to take it out back and unload a shotgun into it's face.

Still, WWE clearly don't give too much of a damn about quality at the moment, save for Smackdown.

Kane Knight

Coachman...would be a cool announcer, if he wasn't playing heel.

Coach was decent as a backstage guy, because he deidn't need to know wrestling for shit.

I honestly like Coach's persona. I just think he's shitty at the table. He's a pro wrestling version of Carlton, and he does it well.

Personally I think JR and King are feeling comfortable. They know they're the "A Team", they know they don't have to be on top form constantly.

I've been hating their commentary for years. Even before Heyman came in back in 2001 I found them awful. Heyman's run only pushed the point home a little more.

If it's not cliched "governmentmules", "one man ass kicking contests", "chocolate/bbq sauce ring mats/corners/etc" it's "PUPPIES!!". I get tired of repetition very quickly. Nowadays when watching Raw it's like playing SmackDown! vs Raw 2007...same 10 sentences about each particular wrestler.

Anyways, out of 10, current guys only...

JBL 9
Cole 6
Tazz 7
Styles 8.5
JR 4
King 3

LOL what :|

"WWE SmackDown!: Here Comes the Pain" was the title of a video game on PlayStation 2. I'm not sure if Tazz coined the phrase but it was he who hammered it home every time Brock Lesnar would come out.

I think it is good when commentators instill things in wrestlers. "Gore! Gore! Gore!" got Rhyno OVER. It's too bad the WWE fucked it up. Much like catchphrases can help get crowds into wrestlers, commentators can help make a wrestler become more prominent, and it makes the commentator's job more than just talking over the rest holds.

Now, if I wanted to "jump on you whenever I got the chance," I'd have made a few comments in other threads you've replied to. Face it, I'm not following you around, persecuting you, or being Jewish. It has nothing to do with any typo, or martyring you, or selling you out to the Romans, or whatever else I can stretch the metaphor into (Oh, that reminds me...Add "taking things literally for deliberate offense" into your list of actions). It has to do with this nonsense about making the announcers more prominent or bonding with the wrestlers, two things which never seem to work or come to any good.

Do people take Todd Grisham and Steve Romero seriously as commentators? Fuck no. Commentators need character, and they need to be more prominent than just a guy in the booth.

I'm not taking this seriously at all, I used the word "crucified" as literary license as you have gone out of your way to make snide little remarks towards me recently. Granted, you do it to others, but it was you who blew it up. I personally don't like engaging you, as you tend to do this, and twist things the way you want them:

You're the one who took the term "crucified" literally, not me. If I was literally being crucified, I'd be up on the cross, or at least using words like "martyr". Who did that? Oh, that's right, it was you.

I made my opinion, and insulted it, I used the facts in the Edge thread (the woman was condescending, if you can't pick that up you are a moron), it was you who chose to run around changing the point of the thread, asking what it did to change people's minds.

I have nothing against you, I think you have more personality than most people I've ever seen on forums, and for a while I could identify with you. Do people take Todd Grisham and Steve Romero seriously as commentators? Fuck no. Commentators need character, and they need to be more prominent than just a guy in the booth.

And character = 1 lame catch phrase spouted ad nauseum?

JR and King had "character" long before they spouted stupid lines over and over again. GRanted, it's been a long time now since we didn't hear "Government mule" every six seconds, or"Bah Gawd" and "puppies!" screamed ad nauseum, but that really doesn't change things. Spouting a catchphrase and/or latching on to a single wrestler doesn't better define you or the wrestler.

as you have gone out of your way to make snide little remarks towards me recently.

Guess again. Hence, not exactly buying your whole "I'm not taking this seriously." You seem to have gone out of your way to infer the worst possible connotation, despite several similar criticism in the past which were not taken as such, including statements that you would kill wrestling.

I personally don't like engaging you, as you tend to do this, and twist things the way you want them

LOL. The hypocrisy.

You're the one who took the term "crucified" literally, not me

I made a sracastic comment. You interpreted it as literal for the sake of your stupid little argument, complaining about how I twist things, when you need a Yoga instructor to figure out where you're bending the truth.

There was absolutely no reason to think my comment was literal.

Interestingly enough, CanadianCrippla last night was asking me about my sources for the Ruse Report because some of the stories seemed a little dubious. This is about on the same level. There's no legitimate reason to believe Sting's soul was signed to WWE, and there's no legit reason to believe that my comment referred to an actual crufixion, due to the overall rareness of such an event these days.

Myself, I break them out on Christmas and Groundhog's day, but that's just me.

I made my opinion, and insulted it,

OMG! YOU MADE AN ERROR IN GRAMMAR! I WIN YOU ASSHAT!

I used the facts in the Edge thread (the woman was condescending, if you can't pick that up you are a moron)

That's not a fact, that's just you complaining about my tactics and using them in the same breath (Incidentally, I have no problem with people using such tactics, I just find it funny when you bitches complain about me and then do it). It's speculation at best, which you accept for convenience.

it was you who chose to run around changing the point of the thread, asking what it did to change people's minds

Try to entertain the notion that multiple points can be discussed in one thread. It happens everywhere on the internet. I never changed the argument, as I continued to make that same argument despite your claims. I merely took these statements that he "had to fight back" and showed them for what they were: Impotent.

Oh, and since we can now call anything we want fact, that's a fact. Edge's argument was impotent, and if you can't see that, you're a moron.

Also, the sky is green, and if you can't see that, you're a moron. Weeeeee, "facts" are fun.

Truce?

LOL you called me a moron (as clearly, I'm one of those morons who can't see that she was being the snide condescending bitch than only you and the other wounded little smark faggots can see), then ask for a truce?

I'm sorry, but that is wholly stupid. And I know that's not "mature" of me...

...Then again, I'm not the one who actually preaches maturity.

PRactice what you preach, douchebag. Start by not proseltysing the meaning of others' words if you don't like it when they do it. Actually, start by not acting like an immature jackass while complaining that I am one. I don't think anyone here, even myself, will contend that I am mature. However, if you're going to complain about my maturity, then act like a little kid (Also using the same methodology, all while complain about mine, a la calling someone a moron for not seeing things your way), you're just making yourself into a hypocrite in due course, and giving me reason to not only mock you for it, but justify a continuation.

The mature response to an immature person isn't to attack their maturity, grammar, etc. In fact, the smart money is on not doing something to someone else that offends you; you will simply engender more of it.

Maturity means taking adversity in stride, and that includes not using insults as justification for more insults. Fuck, I learned that in second grade, yet you seem either not to grasp it, or to think you're proving a point (Which invariably fails, and is a foolish and immature way to handle things).

Maturity alos probably, but does not explicitly include being thick skinned enough to not immediately draw insult because of a previous, unrelated thread. In the two threads where you have complained about me post "Edge is the Man," neither are anything new. Nothing I haven't done before, even when we weren't "fighting." So again, what's changed? My argument? No. My methodology? No, out of the several comments you've made over the past few days, I picked two, which are not only normal talking points for me, but pretty consistant with things that didn't get you offended before, or lead you to say I was "going out of my way" to attack you.

The only real conclusion I can come to is that you are the one who's looking for a fight.

And that's fine. Because as long as you're calling me a moron or insisting that I must have meant my response to crucifixion literally, I'm more than happy to continue mocking you. However, I always like to address the core sentiment; in this case, the fact that I took "shots" at you ruining wrestling before this, and always go after statements I believe to be false or stupid (Like, say, this character nonsense). But then it all comes back to the mock:

Yes, I'm out to get you. You poor fucking martyr.

(insert complaints about my wit, my tactics, and all the other things you can do because you're "mature" in the space privded below. I'll probably also get whined at foe being longwinded, but I would have otherwise been whined at for just saying what I wanted to say in the first place: LOL fuck off retard....)

Wouldn't it be smarter to not make the comment in the first place? Hell, even I don't insult someone's spelling or grammar or typing skills unless they're truly incoherrent.

Again, not that I care, but it seems a stupid and petty attack from someone trying to make the high ground. I'm not offended, just amused. I'm also dyslexic, ADHD, transgendered and have hearing damage (Not truly deaf, but can't hear bass frequencies all that well). Oh, and I hate the Irish.

Wouldn't it be smarter to not make the comment in the first place? Hell, even I don't insult someone's spelling or grammar or typing skills unless they're truly incoherrent.

Um, yes you do. That's why this shit started. And don't say what I wrote was incoherent, because even if I didn't choose the best words to use in my post, any three-year old could extract meaning from it.

And character = 1 lame catch phrase spouted ad nauseum?

It can. In the case of Brock and Tazz, it did.

Guess again. Hence, not exactly buying your whole "I'm not taking this seriously." You seem to have gone out of your way to infer the worst possible connotation, despite several similar criticism in the past which were not taken as such, including statements that you would kill wrestling.

Haha!

LOL. The hypocrisy.

LOL, the irony. Pot meet kettle.

Dude, what the fuck are you going on about? You took it literally. You went on about this martyr shit. I'm not making myself out to be a martyr. This may come as a surprise to you, but there are different levels of applicability to terms. I used crucified to make out you blowing up something small to something big (which you did, because you dedicated an otherwise pointless post to it), and you went on about this martyr shit. Who, my friend, is taking things literally?

OMG! YOU MADE AN ERROR IN GRAMMAR! I WIN YOU ASSHAT!

:|

That's not a fact, that's just you complaining about my tactics and using them in the same breath (Incidentally, I have no problem with people using such tactics, I just find it funny when you bitches complain about me and then do it). It's speculation at best, which you accept for convenience.

Dude, your opinion can say it is a "speculation", you're not right. Everything points to the woman being condescending. Everyone stops at traffic lights, chances are it is red. Stop arguing that the sun may not rise tomorrow, and Aztecs could potential rise from the dead tomorrow, and Hell has merry-go-rounds. The smallest chance of some other alternate outcome to a scenario does constitute as "fatcs".

You're the only one who can't see she was being condescending. Edge saw it, everyone else in the thread saw it. Admit it, you are wrong.

Yeah, I only skimmed that, because you bored me. Don't preach life lessons to me, I've gone through some shit you wouldn't be able to imagine, and you that I wouldn't be able to imagine. This is a place for discussion. Why can't you grasp that. This isn't a place where you get to masturbate your ego by making snide remarks and then not expecting a comeback.

I guess you come from the Trey Parker and Matt Stone school of life. Just put up a wall between you and life, poke fun at whatever, and never actually prove a point, and ignore it when people do.

The only real conclusion I can come to is that you are the one who's looking for a fight.

Dude, you are incapable of forming "real conclusions". You come to the conclusion that fits your argument. I've already said that I'm just participating in discussion, that you are the one seeing the truth as it fits you, and I offered a reprieve from this shit. You chose not to take it. But oh no, Monk Kane Knight knows all about life, how humans are meant to interact, and he can dictate the path of all. Heads he wins, tails you lose. Shut the fuck up, douchebag, you're not immune to all but yourself.

LOL, K. Knight Shyamalan. Of course, you inference things the way you want to, not in the way it were intended (perhaps I am also guilty of that, but you seem to think that you are not, so it is more your failing), so you're arguing bullshit.

You're entitled to your opinion. I haven't really taken notice of your comments about me ruining wrestling, I really couldn't give a fuck what you think. Likewise, I don't think you could wit yourself out of a knock, knock joke. I'm sure you don't give a fuck. Same shit.

The only problem I have with your "mock" (if you can call it such, because it really didn't prove a point, and it really wasn't very insulting, or even clever) is that you took what I said the wrong way, which is what you constantly accuse other people of to "make" your arguments.

I'd just like to make this clear, and I can't speak for everyone, but I can sure as Hell speak for myself: You are not God. Stop acting like you are a) smarter than everyone else, and b) can manipulate all circumstances to fit your ego. You can't. Stop fellating yourself and find a woman to do it for you.

The big reason I hate Michael Cole is because he's clearly a clone of McMahon's commentary style from years ago. The one thing I really really FUCKING hate is when after the ref counts 2, he'll say some shit like 'its over its over!' or 'we've got a new champion'. Just like how McMahon used to.

Say what you want about JR, but he's still a light year ahead of Cole.

I think Michael Cole would be better if he wasn't such a pussy and was his sly self more often. He actually hits JBL with some good zingers occasionally, and you can tell by the way JBL acts towards Cole, he's got some sort of affection for him.

Michael Cole could be pretty good if he wasn't such a whiney babyface character, in other words. It irritated me to no end at No Way Out when Randy Orton stole a victory from Rey Mysterio, and Michael Cole was having a hissy fit about how Rey Mysterio was cheated out of the match whilst representing Eddie Guerrero. "How dare he cheat, Eddie Guerrero would have never approved of that!".

Stupid babyface shit holds Cole down.

Raven is a fucking sweet talker. Did you see that video where he compared ring psychology (or something of the like) to whacking off? Fuck, that is what wrestling needs in a commentator.

I don't know if they should have both guys on at the same time, but if they expand and maybe do two shows a week (*chort*), Raven and Kevin Nash should become TNA's colour commentators. Maybe have Kevin Nash do commentary part-time (I dunno if he could keep focus for an hour), and have Raven replace Don West?

A quick question: Why does Don West have a job? I mean, I thought they just liked him because he had a laid-back, casual, almost fan-like quality to him. TNA isn't that company any more. It needs to grow, and one area of growth is in the broadcasting team. Mike Tenay actually knows what he is doing. Replace West with Shane Douglas, Raven or Kevin Nash, ASAP.
