View Full Version : Joey Mercury is going to become the heel version of Scotty 2 Hotty

Regarding the WWE future of Joey Mercury, he is scheduled to be a full-time "jobber to the stars" singles wrestler on SmackDown upon his return, which is scheduled for February. He appeared to have lost his push during the Heyman/Lagana transition. Furthermore, Mercury was actually on the verge of being released from the company, but Heyman wanted to push him in ECW. Head ECW writer Dave Lagana isn't too interested in using him, so he let SmackDown have him. Also, Lagana wants Gene Snitsky in the spot Joey Mercury was supposed to have in ECW. credit: Wrestling Observer

......

It's not Snitsky's fault.

Just imagine how awesome the WWE would be if Vince's ego was like... half of what it actually is. You wouldn't get idiot writers who get their positions through <s>fellatio</s> ass kissing rather than from actual wrestling knowledge.

"Thanks for leaving half your face in the ring and showing your dedication to the company by busting your ass to get back as quickly as possible.....now get to the back of the line BITCH!"

Well, on the plus side, WWE would like to wish the missing half of Mercury's face well in it's future endeavors.

Worst. Decision. Ever.

I've always liked Mercury, and this is just pathetic. "Jobber to the stars?"...replaced by SNITSKY?!

May not be his fault, but Snitsky (in my opinion) has like...one tenth of the talent that Mercury has.

Or decided to waste a man who was more over than Austin...
Or decided to put over 2 established stars with fresh talent...
Or decided that what ECW needed to be was more WWE...
Or decided that there was a market for ass cartoons...
Or decided to take Heyman off booking...
Or decided that it was better to fire Kurt and risk him going to the competition
Or decided drugs, steroids, and alcohol never hurt anyone (Except RVD and Sabu)...

Why are they determined to make ECW the land of the giants? Isn't that the EXACT opposite of what ECW was? Oh...I see...nevermind...

Mr. Nerfect

I actually don't mind Snitsky going to ECW. The guy would be pretty sweet in a hardcore environment, in my opinion. A lot of people will probably disagree with me on this, but I see the guy with Abyss-like potential. Just a big guy who can take some decent bumps, move around a fair bit, and get over because of his extreme nature.

I mean, how many people would care about Abyss if he didn't so some of the insane shit he does? A lot of people don't care about Abyss. Apparently Arn fucking Anderson and "Fit" fucking Dave fucking Finlay have been pushing for Snitsky to get a more prominent role on television. I'm hard-pressed to disagree with those guys.

The WWE is ass-backwards, though. Johnny Nitro and Jeff Hardy are the ones labelled with the "future" out of their respective tag teams. In my opinion, Matt Hardy and Joey Mercury should be the guys getting pushes. Johnny and Jeff have improved by leaps and bounds this year, and I can see both getting to where they could ideally be, but Matt and Mercury are just so much better, in my opinion.

Honestly, Mercury did his job. He got hurt, sometimes that happens in the business. It doesn't mean his injury gives him a pass to the front of the class. If it's true that he was going to get fired and now is going to be under full time employment, I'd say that's a real nice sign of a company typically uncaring about their talents showing a sign of respect. Besides, it's not like he was ever going to amount to a whole lot anyway.

Also, I don't know why it's taken so many of you so long to let it sink in, ECW's new Sci-Fi Breed is the land of the odd balls. Snitsky is an odd ball, so it fits for the show enviroment they are looking to create. Am I happy about it? No, but at least now there's a chance to see more babies get punted into the crowd...

I don't think it's so much that Mercury was going to amount to anything, as it is that he could, and arguably should amount to something.

Mercury, in my opinion, doesn't have "it." Doesn't even have it enough to make a legit second tier title holder.

<i>The scene is Dave Lagana's office in Stamford. Lagana is behind his desk looking over his notes. Charlie Haas enters.</i>

Haas: You wanted to see me Dave?

Lagana: Yeah, yeah, come on in. Have a seat. I've been meaning to speak with you about Vince's plans to trim the roster.

Haas: Uh, did I do something wrong?

Lagana: It's not a matter of what you did. It's a matter of what you are.

Haas: Oh?

Lagana: See, I know this line of thinking isn't acceptable these days but the bottom line is I don't want gay people on my roster.

Haas: I'm not following. :|

Lagana: Charlie, you my friend are a flaming homosexual and while Patterson is just fine and dandy among the guys he's not the one out there in physical contact with them all the time.

Haas: Uh, I won't judge your beliefs but the fact is I'm not gay. Where are you getting this from?

Lagana: Did you or did you not want to do the storyline with Jackie and Dawn Marie?

Haas: Well, no, there was just no other place where it could le....

Lagana: Oh, spare me. You didn't want the storyline because you didn't want to be surrounded by two hot and beautiful women! If that's not proof of your gayness I don't know what is!

Haas: Dave, I'm not gay! I don....

Lagana: You want more proof do you? Well what about tagging with Rico? Or being part of "The World's Greatest Tag Team"?

Haas: How was me being partners with Shelton Benjamin gay?

Lagana: Oh, come on. The World's Greatest <b>TAG TEAM</b>. Please you could smell the homosexual innuendo a mile away. When you hear <b>TAG TEAM</b> that is cut and dry homosexuality.

Haas: You know, if you're a homophobe, that's fine but to accuse me of being gay with nothing concrete is just plain retarded, Dave. For Christ's sake I'm engaged to Jackie!

Lagana: And the poor girl is going to be devastated when she comes home one day and finds you "amatuer wrestling" with Shelton on the sofa....

Haas: WTF? You're accusing Shelton of being gay now?!?!?!

Lagana: Look this has gone on longer than necessary....

Haas: Dave, for f*ck's sake, I'm NOT gay!

Lagana: OK, Chuck, for sh*ts and giggles, let's see you try to prove to me that you're not gay. I'm going to hold up this picture of Trish Stratus in a bikini and if you pop an erection than you're not gay.

Haas: Uh.....

Lagana: Quick! Look! *holds up picture*

Haas: Dave, erections are spo....

Lagana: HA! You can't even get it up for this hot piece of ass! Dude, I am so hard right now it's not even funny! You can so notice my bulge.

Haas: Uh, no I can't.

Lagana: So you were looking at my crotch?!?!? You queer!!! Get the f*ck out! You are so fired!

Haas: You know what? F*ck you! *leaves*

Lagana: Yeah, you wish you homo.

During the InVasion, RVD was hugely over, getting pops significantly larger than Austin was. But, of course, they decided it'd be better to wait a few years until fewer people cared to give him a title (And even then, only to establish a new brand nobody would watch).

There was even talk that they edited out some of the cheers RVD was getting at that time because they were too loud. You would think that would make them, I don't know, happy or something but I'm just a schmuck behind a keyboard.

It worked for Hardcore Holly.

Holly wasn't about to be released, plus Holly has been with the company over a decade which means we have to sit through a once a year attempted push for him, plus he was on ECW.

Howver, I also totally disagree with Holly's push, I am simply stating that I can better understand Holly's push than I would have a Mercury push.

RVD faced the Rock on Raw during the Invasion days, and got cheered waaay over the Rock. I was there live, and the Rock actually got a "Rocky sucks" chant. He never got a "Rocky sucks" chant around that time. It was insane how over RVD was.

Yeah, you don't know nothing about the business, so we'll just have to take it on faith that getting too many cheers is actually a bad thing. :shifty:

The problem with that is that, until just recently, Mercury was safe. When he first left for rehab, his stress was hindering his adjustment, and he was asssured that his position would be there when he got back.

And sure, I could understand the every-so-often Holly push...except that Venis and Scotty don't get the special treatment, and they've racked up quite the tenure, as well. On top of that, Mercury was in the real ECW, so why should his job be in peril while Holly is held in graces under a brand that doesn't fit him? This is a very backward movement, on both sides.
