View Full Version : TNA chants cause WWE to stop doing "PPV Press Conferences"

As reported earlier, World Wrestling Entertainment has chosen to discontinue the pay-per-view press conferences effective immediately. One source said that the reason for this was that too many people would come to the events to chant "TNA", not to mention "VKM", during the conferences. This problem was especially evident at the New Year's Revolution press conference last week as there were several loud, audible "TNA" chants during the event. To make matters worse, Jonathan Coachman acknowledged the chants by saying, "that like Kansas City, TNA is inferior." All of this was audible on the live webcast on WWE.com, but it was edited out of the subsequent post of the video. credit: Wrestling Observer

I'll tell you, this does mean that the WWE is starting to "listen" to TNA, if you know what I mean.

Naw, Vince probably thinks the fans want more Diva Bikini contests.

If this is true, I think this is pretty huge in the grand scheme of things.

I bet VKM are rubbing their hands. They've got a lot of material, lets see if they use it.

Yeah, instead of the ppv press conferences their just going to have online bikini contests just to show how in touch Vince is with his fanbase.

Good.

A "press conference" for a pro wrestling PPV event?

Every fucking episode of RAW and Smackdown is a fucking press conference. Y'know, people with microphones, promoting their matches and feuds for the big show.

It's not the fucking NFL, Vince. It's about time he stopped with this stupid shit.

Kane Knight

I mean Kip James, but "The Ass Man" Billy Gunn sounds less gay.

...And that's saying something.

I think I've heard a few...

Not "everyone" audible, but a few sporadic TNA chants here and there isn't uncommon.

I saw someone wearing a CM Punk shirt and another wearing a Kennedy shirt tonight on Impact!

I think that upstart WWE promotion is catching on with TNA fans.

I'm waiting on last months Wrestling Challenge to get to me from this neat tape collector in the mail.

Well, you keep waiting on that.

I heard there was this huge guy in that same promotion who's kicking ass. He's named after a TV show... I think his name is "Smoking Gun" Hogan... Or something like that.

I think he's good for another 4 reigns or so, but after that it'll probably be downhill.

A "press conference" for a pro wrestling PPV event?

Uh, yeah, they had press conferences for every PPV for the past couple of years. Sometimes they'd show clips of them, and most of them they'd announce them before a PPV.

I would make an argument about ratings, but it seems after the Rosie/Donald thingie, no one in WWE gives a shit about ratings.

The other half of this issue:

Also, WWE has really been clamping down on fans' signs in recent weeks. For instance, at the 12/26 house show in Hershey, PA, they were confiscating several signs at the door. The current policy calls for anything lewd, anything TNA related, anti-babyface signs, not to mention anything plugging a website, to be confiscated by sercurity. Furthermore, the term "VKM" has been added to the banned list of signs that fans aren't allowed to bring to WWE events. There have been several reports in recent weeks of security confiscating signs that show the initials of everyone's favorite WWE Chairman, Vincent Kennedy McMahon.

If we can get TNA to Create Duo Extreme, maybe they'll start confiescating DX T-Shirts and signs.

You know, if the WWE put some effort in their product, and didn't produce a lot crap wrestling shows, they wouldn't be cancelling PPV press conferences from people chanting their competition's name.

ron the dial
01-12-2007, 11:36 AM
Effort into their product? Is that a serious suggestion? It is not fathomable to expect WWE to put some fucking effort into what they do. Ignore what the fans want, or don't want, and continue on the set course. Cancel PPV press conferences. Confiscate signs at the door. Use all of the effort that you could be putting into the fucking product to simply try and ignore the competition. This is the best course of action, from a wrestling and business standpoint.

Fucking WWE.

LOL @ WWE banning anti-babyface signs.

That's just horrible.

Just think if they did that for Rocky Maivia. We'd have no Rock.

The anti-TNA/VKM sign policy is lame, but not wanting to advertise the competion makes sense.

The no lewd comments on signs thing is understandable (especially on SmackDown, where they'd have to worry about FCC fines -- technically, on cable, they don't have to worry about cursing or whatever, it's only because cable networks worry about advertising revenue being cut off because the F Word was uttered on their broadcast or whatever that it's an issue).

The no website promo thing is stupid. I can't even think of a rational reason why -that- would be banned unless some asswipe promoted something like a skinhead site or castefootball.com (same difference) or even worse, some goatse style shit. You'd really have to go digging for that.

The "John Cena Rule" (as I'm calling it, considering it's been at its worst regarding Cena) is just retarded. Because a few people boo the babyface does not make your T-Shirt sales go away.

Yep.

Raw's going back to being pre-taped, if this gets any worse.

My uncle took a poster in that said John Cena Rules, during the event, he took a marker and wrote I can't see Cenas balls. He had his sign taken LOL

Jeritron

Maybe instead of worrying about signs that proclaim their faces to suck and their compettitor to be better, they should focus their effort on having stars that everyone likes and being better than their compettition. Then they won't have to worry about it. I'm sure they weren't concerned about this back in 98 because everyone like their champions and nobody was chanting WCW.

This must have been false, considering the following from PWInsider...

WWE will be holding their local press conference for the 2007 Royal Rumble PPV this Monday at 12 Noon at the AT&T Center in San Antonio. If anyone is planning to attend, please feel free to send us a report!

Although I suppose it could be that they already had the building booked for that time.

The current policy calls for anything lewd...

WWE Board Meeting:

Vince: "Confiscating anything with bad language on it? Sounds like a good idea. It'll keep the FCC fines down to a minimum. Let's do it.

Now on to new ideas from the creative staff: I've been tossing an idea around that was pretty hilarious. I was thinking of having one of the wrestlers go around wearing a shirt that says "Super Hero In Training.

Or how about this one? I'll have DX run around and tell everyone that I love cocks. Funny, huh?

And Cena can wear a hat that say's "Ruck Fules." Get it? It's like saying "Fuck Rules", but with the letters switched. The kid's will love it...."
