I thought I'd get the ball rolling here. They're TONIGHT. Here are my picks, lifted directly from my Facebook.

EDITED SO EVERYONE CAN SEE THE NOMINEES

I'm doing these before the show. These probably won't differ much from my Oscar picks, which is why a lot of these will be wrong, probably. I can predict the Oscars, Golden Globes are a bit more difficult, cause they're voted on by people who really have no clout in Hollywood, except for The Globes.

Why weird? Because they weren't mostly from America.

Oh I forgot about America's blind superiority complex when it comes to these things.

I'm so happy that America Ferrera won for Ugly Betty, she's one of my favorite actresses.

Yup so glad they gave those awards to such fine non american actors like Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Hudson and Meryl Streep, and such non American films like Dreamgirls and Cars :wtf:
Oh and Avenger next time do me a favour and try not to open your mouth when you have your ass stuck in it

For the record: Nighy and Irons winning was awesome, as was Blunt, and Miren as well for Elizabeth I (didn't even really have a problem with her winning for the Queen either, t'was between her and Cruz), I was pulling for Blunt for supporting actress as well.

The big thing I didn't like was Sutherland and 24 getting screwed for easily their best season, and one of the best seasons of any TV series.

Well I'm gonna continue my 'Get the Wire some fans' campaign but saying this: The Wire shoulda been nominated for and won best drama, so far superior to Lost and 24 its untrue.

Also Bill Nighy = legend

Its astonishingly good.

I'll try and highlight the main good points dno't have time to go fully into it:

- Its essentially a show which examines the decline of an American city (Baltimore), examing the police dept, the projects/drug dealers, the mayors office, the school system and so on

- Its realistic and doesn't romanticise about any of its subject matter

- The cast is almost entirely made up of fantastic character actors

- The Dialogue is superb

- The attention to detail is untrue

- Despite being a cop/drug dealer show primarily, there are no good guys and bad guys

- It forces you to watch and concentrate to a level you normally wouldn't as its plotlines are so detailed and complicated, events take place chronologically most of the time so there are no flashback scenes

- The writers really dont attempt to explain everything to you in plain language through the dialogue like most cop shows. I think that adds to the realism of the dialogue too btw.

Sounds awesome. Might download it.

I read in the Independent that it was one of the best shows on TV.
