Smackdown Spoilers: 1/16/2007, Little Rock, AR

Pre-show dark match: Sounds like “San-Eye” from Japan b. Jamie Noble. I don’t
know who “San-eye” is, but he wore black suit with green and a mask, so he got
“Power Ranger” chants. Had some crisp “luchador” arm-drags etc. and won with a
rollup.

Show opens with a Mr. Kennedy promo talking up his Beat the Clock win. Teddy
Long interrupts and says tonight Kennedy will face the Undertaker. Win, lose or
draw, Kennedy remains in the Rumble title match, but if Undertaker wins he gets
added to make it a Triple Threat.

1. Matt Hardy b. Joey Mercury. Early in the match Matt delivers body shots and
Joey backs off quickly when Matt goes for face shots. Mercury goes for a double
underhook, Hardy double legs him and flips over for the pin. Post-match Nitro
jumps Hardy and Melina shows up too. “We want Jeff” chants, but no Jeff. Matt
gets a snapshot on the concrete floor with the pads removed.

Backstage: Miz talking up taking Undertaker to the limit to Ashley and Layla,
but Kane approaches from behind.

Backstage: Kristal interviews Vickie who was something to discuss in private.

2. MVP/Regal/Taylor b. Vito/London/Kendrick. Heat segment on Vito, Taylor gives
some stiff forearms. Kendrick gets the hot tag but the heels get the win.

3. No DQ US championship match: Chris Benoit b. Chavo Guerrero. Went about 10
minutes, Chavo quickly tries to use exposed turnbuckles, chairs, etc. Benoit
goes for Crossface early and often but Chavo works over his left shoulder and
arm with the chair. Benoit gets the tap-out victory with the sharpshooter. A
bit underwhelming due to time but a solid match.

Backstage: Kristal interviews Batista

Backstage: Jillian suggests Kennedy should tell Long to call off the match with
the Undertaker.

4. Deuce, Domino, and Cherry debut defeating 2 unannounced wrestlers in a
squash. “Fonzie” and “Happy Days” chants.

Backstage: Kennedy talks to Long, but the match is on.

5. Kane b. The Miz in a squash

Backstage: King Booker talks to Long, he hasn’t gotten a rematch but the King
will win the Royal Rumble to reclaim his throne at Wrestlemania.

Batista comes out for commentary with Michael Cole and JBL for:
6. Mr. Kennedy b. The Undertaker by DQ. Also goes about 10 minutes. Finish
comes as Kennedy is outside the ring and slaps Batista at the announce table.
Kennedy runs back into the ring, Batista follows and spears him. Ref calls for
the DQ so Kennedy wins and Undertaker isn’t added to the Royal Rumble World
title match. Batista takes Kennedy to the back while Undertaker remains in the
ring with a displeased stare at Batista. Perhaps a tease of an
Undertaker/Batista title program. credit: Wrestling Observer

About fucking time The Throwbacks debut,

I'm going to pretend that I didn't read these when I watch SmackDown, just so I can cheer for The Miz.

OOO-RAH!

Soooo how many times has Benoit defeated Chavo now?

Survivor Series, Armageddon, rematch on SmackDown! and No DQ Match. My count is four. :-\

From what I hear, they basically play a 50's Cool gimmick.

WHAT. THE. FUCK?! :wtf:

Their tag team gimmick is that of 50's Greaser's type. ALA The Fonz.

Of course people will view it as a shitty concept, but they are a good team and are entertaining in that role.

Nice to know they're recycling the "Power Rangers" chant.

I like Deuce and Domino. I haven't seen much of their work, but the last time I was in the OVW area, I liked what I saw. Hopefully they don't get the Highlanders treatment.

KingofOldSchool
01-17-2007, 11:44 PM
They'll get that treatment cause they are a tag team and WWE has a "we won't spend any time developing tag teams unless they are D-X" frame of mind.

I can only think of one other time. In singles competition, at least. Chavo Guerrero got a non-title win to re-contender for the United States Title. Some good it did him.

What's with all the divas appearing in random segments?

Mr. Nerfect
01-18-2007, 01:10 AM
I think I'm going to like these guys. Deuce Shade is apparently fucking awesome in the ring, and the gimmick could work if they don't play it too seriously/not seriously enough. I think the gimmick needs to be treated just right, and I don't trust the WWE not to fuck it up.

I guess The Throwbacks will be London & Kendrick's No Way Out opponents. They'll probably win the belts, too.

After reading that last match spoiler, it's becomming apparent that Undertaker will win the Rumble.

Either that or have a feud that lead to No Way Out, ot god forbid WM

LOL at how they're setting up the Batista/Taker feud.

Mr. Nerfect
01-18-2007, 06:32 AM
I can actually see the fans turning on the match. I mean, sure, both guys are over, and both guys are decent for their size, but people aren't going to know who to cheer for, and even if one guy turns heel, they will still have die-hard fans who will support them.

Now you have complete confusion heading into the match, people aren't going to know whether to get behind The Undertaker or Batista...so they're going to look at the quality of the match. Austin vs. Rock had two guys who could tell a story with a fruitcake. Batista and The Undertaker aren't quite at that level.

It could be a wreck.

Mr. Nerfect
01-18-2007, 06:34 AM
Who is this Sanai guy? Do you think it's just Funaki in a mask? I kind of hope it is, because the guy deserves a push after years of being the job boy.

Apparently the luchador in the dark match was a woman and it's going to be her gimmick.

===

The person that wrestled in the costume at Tuesday's Smackdown taping was actually a female wrestler who has worked under the name Shantelle Taylor. WWE sent her out for her dark match against Jamie Noble dressed ambiguously. The idea is people aren't supposed to pick up that she is a woman. She is a Canadian who is under a developmental deal in Deep South.

From PWInsider.

Could have sworn they've done this gimmick before. You know, Chyna AND Nicole Bass?

KingofOldSchool

They are going to waste Shantelle Taylor like that???????????????????????????????????????????????????????

WHAT. THE. FUCK.

Xero

It's probably going to go up until she wins a title and then they give her a physical and they find out the truth and strip her of the title.

Actually, she'll probably be the one to beat Helms.

KingofOldSchool
01-18-2007, 12:27 PM
Ross: Vince, there is the girl in DSW named Shantelle Taylor, she's a pretty good women's wrestler. She would make a great feud for Mickie James.

Vince: Montel????

Ross: No, Shantelle.

Vince: What kind of a name is Shantelle?

Ross: Why don't you ask her momma about that one?

Vince: I think I will! I'm Vince McMahon, damnit! Wait...on second thought let's put a mask on her, put her on Smackdown, and her gimmick will be that no one knows that he is a she. It's like the movie "White Chicks." We could call it "Masked Chicks."

Ross: But Vince, there is no women's division on Smackdown. She would best be used on Raw in the Women's division.

Vince: There's a women's division on Smackdown. Hell, that Hurricane kid is the champion.

Ross: Uhhh Vince, that's the Cruiserweight division. And his name is Gregory Helms.

Vince: Huh? Bah oh well same difference. We'll give the cruiserweight title to Masked Chick then.

DAMN iNATOR

LOL at how they're setting up the Batista/Taker feud.

It would actually be quite interesting for the match to happen at Mania, IF Batista is given a proper heel turn, as it seems apparent from the last item, that that is exactly what the SmackDown! creative team has in mind at this moment, even though he clearly was retaliating against Kennedy's attack, he could have just as easily ambushed Taker for no apparent reason.

This could work for Mania:
Heel HBK vs. Cena WWE Title (HBK Wins)
Taker (RR Winner) vs. Heel Batista WHC (Taker Wins)

Then send Shawn to Smackdown (Also with Edge) - WHC Fued.
Triple H comes back and Challenges Taker (now on Raw) for WHC (Orton gets involved)
