I went scrolling through the Music Forum and didn't find a single thread dedicated solely to the lads, the Fab Four, the...what other nicknames did they have?

Anyway.

I know there has to be more Beatles fans on here besides me (I'm assuming Nowhere Man is one just 'cause of the name), so I'm setting up this thread so we can all praise (or blast, if that's your bag) the greatest band of the rock & roll era.

So fire away with your album rankings or ten favorite songs or...just to say "George Harrison is the man."

They're great but they aren't the greatest rock and roll band ever. They we're geniuses at capturing people's attentions and the fact that the music was good didn't hurt either.

Strawberry Fields Forever is my favorite song

Just out of curiosity, who do you think is the greatest?

Yeah they are definately the greatest band of all-time. They had so many hits, it's hard to count them all. Anyway, here are my fav songs in order

1) Let it Be: play it on the piano all the time
2) Elenor Rigby
3) Penny Lane
4) Strawberry Fields Forever
5) Yellow Submarine: Loved the cartoon movie too
6) In my Life
7) Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
8) Nowhere Man
9) We can Work it Out
10) Yesterday

and it's the FAB FOUR loopy

D'oh! There was a "Queer Eye" commercial on while I was typing it and the word "Five" jumped onto my keyboard. But, it's been edited, now no one need ever know...

Of course, I COULD have been talking about John, Paul, George, Stu, and Pete in their early days.

Also, I don't know if I could come up with a short list of favorite songs, but here are my favorites by album:

Please Please Me - I Saw Her Standing There
With The Beatles - Till There Was You
Beatles For Sale - I'll Follow The Sun
Hard Day's Night - If I Fell
Help! - You've Got To Hide Your Love Away
Rubber Soul - In My Life (Norwegian Wood is a DAMNED close second)
Revolver - Eleanor Rigby (my all-time fave, but For No One is way up there, too)
Magical Mystery Tour - The Fool On The Hill
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - She's Leaving Home
The Beatles (Disc One) - Julia
The Beatles (Disc Two) - Everybody's Got Something To hide Except Me And My Monkey (Best. Title. Ever.)
Abbey Road - Here Comes The Sun (Something is also one of my faves)
Let It Be - Across The Universe (The Long and Winding Road is way up there too)

Wait, never mind. Replace Julia with While My Guitar Gently Weeps on my list. I totally forgot that was on that album.

Yeah, I was gonna question that, but I was out the door when I read it.

There are so many people who were a part of the Beatles' legacy that they could make mention in the whole "fifth Beatle" concept.

The Beatles are, perhaps, the greatest pop act ever.

I'd put Pink Floyd and Queen in front of them. Maybe Dylan too

For sure. Their early stuff was very good pop, but I'd go back one more and say that from Rubber Soul on, they were at their best.

(Not that I'm arguing with you or anything, but)

I think this proves just how broad the concept of "rock" is.

That the likes of Pink Floyd, Queen, Dylan, and the Beatles all fit in one category is just...:|

Incidentally, I used a song by the BEatles in my theory class.

"Honey Pie" for the record.

All I really needed was to bring in some sheet music for a piece that modulated to a closely related key (major to minor/minor to major or a change of no more than one sharp or flat). In breaking down the piece, I found some really funky stuff.

As supreme said, PF and Dylan are better but they're damn entertaining.

I'd put Pink Floyd in front of The Beatles out of personal taste, but not Queen.

As for general popularity, no one has more than The Beatles, not even the Rolling Stones.

I was just listening to Magical Mystery Tour in my car. All major Beatle albums on one disc =

Anyway, I've been a fan for as long as I've been alive, apparently.

Abbey Road is probably my favourite at the moment

I don't think many could beat Beatles in terms of song quantity and quality

LOL, Wasn't there an SNL sketch one time where eathier the guest host or one of the cast members said he was the fifth beatle, but they kicked him out or something?

It was a talk show sketch and Eddie Murphy played a guy who claimed to be the fifth Beatle and he had doctored photos of him with the band and he played recordings with his voice over the Beatles. I forgot all about that until I saw this post. Eddie on SNL kicked ass.
