Welcome to the thread dedicated to discussing the wonderful world of fighting games. Discuss your favourite games/characters/strategies/what have you.
My all time fave fighting games:
Soul Calibur 3 (Best with Kilik and Siegfried, I guess)
Tekken 5 (Raven and Christie/Eddy (NO, I'm not a masher  )
Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike (Ken. Forever and ever Ken.)
Been playing a lot of old Neo Geo fighters lately (SamSho and the like). Will play more once I finally get a PC gamepad.
How's about you?

all of the Street Fighter Alphas (got that collection deal)
TMNT Tournament Fighters (SF2 with Ninja Turtles  )
Mortal Kombat
MK2
MK Deadly Alliance

Fighter's Destiny (underrated, too bad the sequal was pure shit)
Clayfighter (crap)
Clayfighter 64 (crap)

Tekken is great because anyone can pick up and play, but when you get two players who are really good, its like a game of chess.
Getting into DOA 4 finally after getting past the enormously annoying difficulty. The reversal system kicks so much ass.
Funky Fly
01-31-2007, 02:50 AM
Oh yeah, also have DOA 2.
And def have to agree on Tekken. My youngest brother is only alright, but you put me against my middle brother and we will chess it up on the chess bus all the way to the chess shop in chess town.
We've had so many classic Hwoarang vs Asuka and Eddy vs Xiaoyu fights.

I hate Virtua Fighter so much. I just can't get into it. The stay-in-the-air-forever jumping doesn't help either. :(

Pretty sure they stopped that a while ago. Tekken 1 and 2 also did that btw.

1. It's stil there in VF4: Evo, just that they have regular jumping too. It's still kinda 50/50 when you are in a twitch fight.
2. I know. That is why I stick to Tekken 3, Tekken Tag and Tekken 5 mostly.

Not amazingly familiar, but as we speak I am purchasing MK: Armageddon from amazon :D
MK 1 (SNES/Megadrive) this was fucking great, always used to play against friends on this ages ago. Loved freezing people as sub zero when they are in the middle of a jump, then jumping up and kicking them flying.
Tekken tag: Got this somewhere, it was ok.
Tekken 5: Got this, pretty good except for the fact that the last boss is such a cock face.

Okay, mabye not, its taking over a week to dispatch. Wanna play it before then.
Anyway, what kinda music is best to play during a fighting game??
Update: brought off another seller, should be here within the week

Virtua Fighter 4:Evo (Lau)
Tekken Series (Hwoarang)
Street Figher Alpha 2 (Akuma, Adon, Guy, more I can't remember)
But my favorite fighting game would definitely have to be Marvel v Capcom 2: New Age of Heros. Don't know why, it's not the most technical game by any means, I just find it easily addictive and insanely fun.

I take it you've never heard of SNK boss syndrome. Most broken bosses ever.
Gotta admit that Jinpachi's freeze move is fucking annoying, though.
As for MvC2, I've never had enough time to really appreciate it. I wanna find a copy of it for PS2, but it's really rare (WHY? ) and really expensive.

Love fighting games. Always end up playing by myself. I got a brother who used to be into it.
But anyway here's my list of favroites.
Mortal Kombat 2 (My best are with Shang Tsung, Liu Kang, and Kung Lao)
Soul Calibur 2 (Used Yoshimitsu, Kilik, and Maxi) In this game whenever I was playing against someone with Maxi, I would smash the nunchaku to the ground and proceed to use soul loops and lynchings to destroy them.
Soul Calibur 3 (Again. Yoshimitsu, Kilik, Maxi. Then Rock came back, and fell in love with Zasalamel) Haven't played this much caused they took out alot of trademark moves for all characters and the A.I. is a bit out. Sort of sad for me.
Viruta Fighter 4 (Character of Choice: Lei Fei) Love this guy. Everybody should make an effort to play as him for a good while.
Street Figher 2 (Classic) Every character was great.
Street Fighet Alpha 2 Gold (Rolent and Guy were my two players. Gen had the best fight music.) I was at my friend's house one time, and he had this. I was playing as Guy one time and I fought Ken. Took him down in a mere 9 seconds. Had a witness watching. As Rolent, I try to end every match with his Tripwire hanging.
Samurai Showdown (I think it was 2. My players were Galford, Nakaruru, Tam Tam, Jubei) Galford I used his Fireblades and used Machine Gun Dog to tear someone apart. Nakaruru, I always let the bird to the work. I'll even let it guard my sword if I lose it and resort to punches and kicks. Tam Tam. Repeat Paugna Paugna. I use the flamming skull if necessary. Jubei, Rapid Sword Slashes, Ground Bolt, and Running Leaping Slash. I beat the game with every character except Charlotte.

With the capcom liscense no longer belonging to capcom, I know we won't see any new MvC games, but is it possible for them to release any anthologys of their Marvel games?

Maybe include Mutant Apocalypse and War of the Gems as unlockables.
Funky Fly
02-03-2007, 09:34 PM
Mutant Apocalypse I wouldn't mind. War of the Gems, I'll pass.
They'd probably pass on it, since they don't have the Marvel license and they'd have to pay a money that they'd make from it.

Is it me, or are SNK fighters in general tougher than other fighters?

Yeah btw if you're a fighting game fan, try to find a Dreamcast. The whole "No mods needed to play burned games" means I've got:
Street Fighter 3
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Marvel Vs Capcom 2
Dead Or Alive 2
Fatal Fury: Mark Of The Wolf
Rival Schools 2
Capcom Vs SNK 1 and 2
Virtual On 2
The Last Blade 2
Powerstone 2
Mortal Kombat Gold
Virtua Fighter 3tb
Guilty Gear X

lol what? I've seen him fire 4 at a time and managed to dodge them all. You know that double tapping up or down on the d-pad lets you move in 3d, right? Also certain people like Eddy/Christie, Hwoarang and Law can actully perform attacks that move around or under them.

Dude, it's in the manual and the practice mode.
You might actually be better off with Soul Calibur 3. The 3D movement is as simple as moving up or down; no double tapping. Not to mention the simpler control scheme (vertical slash, horizontal slash, kick and block). And if you get the parrying and and attack priority system down, you will be a master in no time. Give it a rent sometime.
*NOTE* SC3 has a memory card glitch where its data (and possibly the whole memory card) could become corrupted if it is on the same card as other game saves. I actually have an entire memory card dedicated SOLELY to SC3. The game is that good, IMO.

My top fighters in no particular order.
Street Fighter 3: Third Strike - I really enjoy the parry thing, although I'm rubbish at it on anything but fireballs. It's a good game, but it's by no means the best.
Dead Or Alive 4 - I'm better at 2, the fact it's easier to get a game of this online put it's above.
Garou: Mark Of The Wolves - Came out at roughly the same time as Third Strike, has a similar type blocking system, where blocking at the last second gives you some life back. Suffers from SNK Boss Syndrome, which I both love and hate.
Melty Blood Re-ACT - A PC fighter I came across randomly, the characters all seem the same, and it initially appears to be a bit poo. I enjoy this as much as the next game on the list. Can be found on certain websites, 100% recommended if you have an arcade stick for the PC.
Guilty Gear X2 #Reload - Loving it, spent so much time with it and can only really play as two characters (Ky and Potemkin). As much depth in it as you want.
Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution - Never gave this the time it deserved, but it's always been near my PS2 since I got it. Too deep for me to spend serious time with, but when you find out combos and things it feels like an achievement.
Tekken 5 - Only here because one of my housemates will play it.
By the way, out of those I mostly play Guilty Gear, Melty Blood and Garou.

Shaq Fu-I really enjoyed the realistic storyline. And I must say, when I beat the game I was glad Shaq was still able to make it to the charity basketball game. Moves are so easy to pull off in this game, it makes you wonder why there wasn't a sequel. You get to fight everything in this game from a mummy to a witch too! It's a really rad game with a really rad hero!

-MK: A Came this morning, been playing it all day, so fucking great. One part of me wants to do a cheat to get all the Koins, the other part wants to earn them fairly, which is definatley a good sign.
-Cyrax is easily my fave
-How do you create a fatality? is it an unlockable or have I missed something? I can only select special moves when I'm creating people.

But I did check gamefaqs, sort of confused me, is it a separate mode or tied in with Kreate a fighter?
Blitz

There is no KaF mode. Fighters no longer have individual fatalities, they can all just string together a bunch of moves followed by a finisher when "Finish Him" pops up.
