If you are talking about war movies, here's a fair list of things I can think of. I'll give a brief synopsis of each.
The Devil's Brigade: American and Canadian soliders hook up for a joint op.
The Dirty Dozen: American convicts get a shot a freedom.
Stalag 17: William Holden vs. an entire POW camp.
The Great Escape: Damn good cast. The title explains the story.
We Were Soldiers: Mel Gibson goes to Vietnam.
Platoon: One of Oliver Stone's classics. (Alexander doesn't count)
That's all I could think of for now. Either rent them or watch AMC or TCM.

Saints and Soldiers. If you liked band of brothers you'll love this.
The other movies people listed in here aren't WW2, a lot of them are Vietnam. But chances are you'll like them too.

The Longest Day does as well. Although I would say not as "ridiculous."

Yeah A Bridge too far and even The great escape are pretty stacked.
A Bridge too far gave me chills, great stuff, and The Great escape is just 7 kinds of brilliant.
