Break out your spandex pants, start practicing your karate kicks; David Lee Roth is officially returning as the front man for Van Halen.

Founding band member Eddie Van Halen made the first official announcement to TMZ, saying "It feels like a whole new beginning to be back with Dave and to be playing with my brother and my son. We look forward to going on tour."

Roth, an original member of Van Halen, quit the group in 1985. He rejoined the band briefly in 1996, only to quit again a few months later. Roth hasn't performed live with the group since 1984.

As TMZ first reported, Eddie's son, Wolfgang Van Halen, will be playing bass with the supergroup on their upcoming tour. According to the band's rep, Janie Liszewski, the tour will cover most major U.S. cities, including L.A. and New York.

Now, if they come over to the UK, it will be all good!

Two questions though. What's happened to Michael Anthony? Why ain't he playing bass?

Michael Anthony got dropped. He still plays with Sammy Hagar as "The Other Half." Sammy/Anthony > The Van Halens/DLR

How many times do I hear this? At least once every few years.

I've learned to let Van Halen go, they're one of the best bands ever and I don't get too pumped for the prospect of reunions or Haggar/Roth merges and shit.

Seriously. The last time someone confirmed this was happening, straight from the horse's mouth, was like 9 months ago.

It's confirmed on the band website. I'm a huge Van Hagar fan, but my biggest hang up is that Mad Anthony is not part of the line up. I'm actually interested in seeing Roth, as I saw the Roth/Hagar solo tour, saw the Hagar 2004 VH Reunion, and have seen Hagar solo. I want to see how Roth has held up, but I'm more disappointed that after more than 10 studio albums of playing solid basslines and being a distinct background vocal that is as steadfast and necessary as whomever is singing the song, Anthony is no more. He doesn't come across very well on Van Halen albums, but to hear Anthony take his solo in person (or even on DVD) and hear him sing, you know he is an integral part of the rhythm section. I will reserve my judgment on Wolfie's playing abilities, but as a whole I just think the concept of replacing Anthony with another Van Halen is wrong. With that said, I'm still gonna shell out for floor seats.

Also, anyone who likes Van Hagar better is a ridiculous idiot.

And that's not even insulting, it's the truth.

Well I can't argue with that iron clad logic.

Exactly. It's science.

I've always liked Sammy better - that's not saying that I dislike Diamond Dave, I'm just wishing that I had made an effort to see VH on the Hagar reunion tour a couple years ago.

Maybe I'll go see VH with Roth........... maybe.

It'll be curious to see if Eddie and Dave blow up or if eveyone is finally mature enough to make this work.
