View Full Version : Finally figured out WWE.com's image display - Captions Return?
Okay, the main reason that we don't do captions is because it's a pain in the ass to pull the images from WWE.com (and we need to re-host them). As long as WWE.com doesn't change this part of the script (which I doubt they will), this will always work.
The images are actually background images to prevent copying. I snooped through their java files and found this. Right clicking and choosing "view background image" (at least in Firefox) shows the image. I found an extension for Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1853/ . This saves background images.
Also, looking through the archives, I don't think they'll be changing URLs. If they do and we use the WWE.com hosted ones we're fucked, which is why I propose this question.
Shall we bring back captions? I would be willing to at least handle part of it. I can't do it all myself, but if someone helps me, I think we can pull it off.
So which is it?
(Boy will my face be red if this was already figured out.)

I've explained several processes for getting them. Most people didn't think it was worth the time. If you want to take the time to download and host, however, I'm all for it.
Okay, I'm going to do a dry test run in a minute. I am indeed bringing back the Captions contest (if it gets a fair amount of content), but I need to look into how I'll run it. Once I streamline my process and work out the kinks, it should take me no more than 2-5 minutes to rip, upload and have them posted for most shows.
Edit: Posted. Once I figured out the Flock browser it batch-uploaded everything. So it's a snap, the only thing that's tedious is saving them, and really, it's no worse than it used to be. Really all I do is save each one, batch upload them and then have Photobucket (at which I will make a new account) generate the codes.
The thread I posted (http://tpww.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1608901#post1608901 ) is just a test run. There will be no voting probably until the week after next.
Now, for one thing. I will rip upload everything. However, I need someone (or more than one person preferably) to be the "best captions" selector. All it really requires is to go through everyone's captions and pick which they think is best. I'll collect them into one thread and do the voting thing.

Great. I'm feeling sick, so I need to lie down, but I just did one that struck me, and I'll do more later.

I was always too lazy to rehost because I'd have to copy the image source of the thumbnails then remove the "_164x83" (or whatever the actual dimension of the thumbnail is) part of the thing. *shrug*
But sure, why not? We can always do CotM and if it doesn't make it to CotY, then oh well. I'd propose saving CotM nominees on ImageShack so we don't have to rehost every single effing thing.
Like I said, it only takes me about a minute to save all the pictures and about two minutes to batch-upload them (as I can now save them directly from the image), not too hard, that's why I'm going to host them on PhotoBucket (account WrestlingCaptions)...
As for CotM, I'll probably let it go for now, just to get captions started up again on a weekly basis.
Impact!
