View Full Version : just got a g-force 7300 gt pci-e 256mb
before i test it out on really the only graphics intense game i have, doom 3, is there any tweaking i can do to make it perform better? my old one was a 256mb x600, and it ran the game on low settings, so hopefully it'll at least do medium level graphics:-\
well my graphics score on vista just jumped from a 3.7 to a 4.4

ok
out of what? 5? 10?
no idea to be honest
ok
you know usually you are good with these questions, but i'm baffled at you this time.
1st time using baffled btw
You could overclock it but other than that you're not going to find a way to get improvements other than driver updates.
You could also run 3DMark if you're looking to get a better idea of how well your PC can perform rather than the Vista Score.
Also, I just picked up X1650XT. Not high end by any means but I'm still running AGP and my current card is starting to die.
i had a chance to get a nvidia quadro? whatever the hell kind of card that is. i had no clue how in comparison it is to the 7300gt, so i didnt get it. i dunno, do you?

Ah sorry, didnt realise you were asking a question, just thought you were bragging :p
Did you use the latest drivers from Nvidia.com rather than the ones on the CD?
You may want to upgrade your chipset drivers at the same time. Is you board Nforce4?

Quadro is a Card used by 3D animators etc. Not as good for games.

the cd would freeze for some reason, so i d/led them instead. also how do i upgrade my chipset drivers. intel.com? i have no idea what kind of board i have

glad to hear imade the right choice.
also, doom 3 now auto sets me at high performance. yaaaay
Never use the drivers from the CD unless you have no way of ever downloading new ones. Windows will give you a generic driver that you can use to go download the new ones.

5.9 is the max right now. They will define 6+ when needed.
everyone should post their scores
processor 4.4
ram 5.3
graphics 4.4
gaming graphics 4.4
hard disk 5.4

I don't use Microsoft's benchmark tools to see how fast my PC is.
Get SANDRA and 3DMark.
Yeah, Microsoft's index tool is only good to see how well you can run Vista. Even then it's not that accurate. For example, my primary OS hard drive is just 30GB but I still have a secondary hard drive that has plenty of space. Yet they give me a 3.2 on it because most of the space is taken up on the small hard drive. Shouldn't be judged on that at all.
However, here are my stats:
Processor: 3.6
Memory: 4.1
Graphics: 5.9
Gaming Graphics: 5.5
Primary Hard Disk: 3.2
