Don't think so. Dana White says the UK shows will be treated on par to the U.S shows so eventually it's gonna happen. Might have been a legal issue or something. Or maybe he didn't want to fight Forrest Griffin again. I dunno.
Side note, I'm more hyped for this show than any other since Summerslam 1992. This is better than going to Mania for me.
So wish I had money ffs, its only like 30 minutes on the train ffffffs:rant:

Well we can hope. New arena on the way in Liverpool as we speak, and its as big a fight town as you can get...But it won't happen, still I'd go down to London or Birmingham for it.

lol, you probably pay that to go see Wolves, whats the difference?
1) I don't, since I live half a country away. Besides which, it would get you to pretty much any seat in the stadium. £25 for this is the furthest possible away seats, with piss-poor views if my memory of MEN is correct.
2) If I go to see Wolves, I know exactly what I'm gonna get, more or less. 90 minutes, decent chance of a goal or two. I go to see UFC, the event could be over in an hour or so if matchups don't click properly, or virtually every match could end in constant deadlocks with very little action. I realise that's unlikely with Arlovski and CroCop on the card, and to an extent it's what MMA is about, but still it's a lot of variance. If I was paying £250 (!) for premium seats I'd almost want some sort of guarantee of great action to justify the outlay.
3) Last weekend I saw 2 ROH shows with a great view and fantastic cards for a total of £35

1 - I see your point. I still paid £50 for mine and I would have spent way more if my pal wasn't new to the sport and is never gonna pay more.
2 - Since Zuffa took over, they have only have arguably 2 "bad" shows. And even they weren't that bad. I like the odds here.
3 - Wrestling is shite. ;) Liverpool is also half a country away.
Mr. Monday Morning
03-12-2007, 08:27 AM
Eh, I'm a casual fan at best, and between that and the cost of train, hotel etc it's a bit much for me. I don't doubt it will be a good show but I can't justify it right now.
Hotel? Fanny! Just stay out all night like I'm planning to do. Either that or drive back to the midlands.
Lighter note - where's decent to go out here?
Mr. Monday Morning
03-12-2007, 03:18 PM
How many times you fucker, I don't live in the Midlands anymore :p Plus I sold my car.
tbh the only real draw for me on the card is CroCop, and I can download the frickin' thing easier than go see it live.
As for up there, I can't really recommend much as I infrequently hung around Birmingham in my Uni days and that's about it sadly :o
Boo!
My girlfriend is gonna throw a wobbly that weekend. She thinks only one person is staying at my house. Oops.
Forrest Griffin is out with staph infection. Dave Heath is in. Jason Lambert and Keith Jardine refused the fight.

So, I had to post this here. I was on UFC.com and clicked an article link that was talking about MMA coming back to london, and I notice this at the bottom.
Posted by: Rob Harvey, London on 6:17pm today
Have to say it, this article is without question the fairest piece on MMA written by a British journalist (nevermind a boxing expert). Glad to see someone who has such strong ties with boxing isn't turning a blind eye to MMA like some others are clearly doing to protect boxing. The only way boxing can protect itself is less talk outside the ring and more action inside of it.
Obviously more people on this earth could have the same name and even live in and around the same fuckin area, but I have to ask, is that our own famed and loved Rob that frequents these same boards?
PS: Card will rock.

I am not disagreeing with you about CroCop himself. I know he is an amazing fighter, and what he is capable of. However, I dont ever go into a ppv with that mentality. Anyone is capable of making mistakes. A lot of people base Gonzaga's game off of his fight with Terry Martin because it was lame, but the guy is where he is for a reason.
I would think that Mirko isnt underestimating him either. Either way, these matchups with the clash of style's are always the hardest to call for me.

I LOL'd because while Mark is a great wrestler, the guy hasnt been on top of his game for a long time. Combined with the fact that its all he knows. He is probably one of the most linear fighters in MMA.
He only ever goes for double or single leg takedowns. He never tries for a sweep (inside or outside) or throws. Most BJJ guys go for sweeps because it tends to put them in the top position (even if they dont get top position, most JJ fighters are comfortable with either top or bottom), and because its a lot easier to sprawl out of a leg takedown then it is for say a double-underhook with an outside sweep.
Thats just my 2 cents though.

Cro Cop thought he was going to take a body kick. That's why his head was exposed, he dropped his arm to block a mid level kick and WHAMMO right to the head.
The reason he didn't break anything in his knee or ankle is because he was out cold and limp.
Randy called it. He said Gonzaga would win. He stated he was hoping to defend his title against Cro Cop, not Gonzaga because of the styles they fight.
PS, That Arlovski fight stank. What the hell?? Has he become afraid to get hit now. I hope he gets his aggression back.

Yeah after the 2nd Syliva fight Arlovski is a different fighter.
Too afraid of getting caught.
I thought alot about it, and I think I might know what was wrong with him. We were told prefight that if he won, he would take on whomever won Randy Couture vs ?? (Gonzaga) for a title shot. He was coasting most of the fight because he knew as long as he just defended the shoot, that Werdum's sloppy standup would not be able to outpoint his decent standup.
The guy wants his title back. Watching a lot of his fights, you will notice that when he had the title, he fought with a different tenacity (he was the pitbull). I think his mentality is, why risk a loss if I can get my title back by having an easy win.
I am not defending his actions, just trying to make sense of them. I would bet my last dollar that a different Arlovski (then the one we saw last night) will show up for his title shot.

Yeah, you know if Couture says it, you should believe it.
Back to the point about Arlovski.
He best be careful if that's how he's thinking because the UFC doesn't promote fighters that are boring.
Okay I was gonna write a column like bullshit thingy but I dont have the energy really. I'll try and have a bit of detail but be quick.
Biggles (my pal) meets me in his gas van at my house. He thinks we are taking my van. Sorry sir but you are wrong. My van is restricted to 70MPH. His van isn't. His air con is however broken and after a look under the hood, he points out the engine is moving when you switch gear. I see it's missing a bolt. "Don't worry dude, it will be fine". I'm stupid.
Rolled into Manchester about 5pm Friday. Dump bags at the only hotel room we can get. "Family room" apparently. Well if you call a double bed with a single bunk over it a family room then this is one. Immediately we are fighting over who gets the top bunk (I won). Off into manchester town center for a few beers and something to eat. On the way back to the hotel, I spot this small chap with a UFC shirt on and I mention to Biggles this dude is probably going to the show tomorrow. Yeah he was going because it was MATT FUCKING SERRA~! Seriously I haven't marked out for celebs often but this was a mini mark out. Everything you hear about him being a cool dude doesn't do him enough justice. He was all smiles, had a joke when he asked if I thought he'd beat GSP :( Little BJJ talk, italian food, bashing Matt Hughes' nose and chicks and he even asked if we had tickets for the show. Seriously this man was gonna get us tickets! Didn't wanna take up much of his time but you can speak to this man like you've known him all your life. A very fine gentleman.
Back to get ready for the night out. Girlfriend calls to check up. Biggles is checking a map of Manchester while this goes on. She mentions we should check out Canal Street. Biggles says he knows it. Anyway, we got out and find 3 or 4 bars and the action is dead. Biggles asks the bouncer if he knows where we can go which gets the shitty reply of "I don't know because I'm always here". Biggles asks about Canal Street and the guy instantly tells us the exact way to get there.
So we bowl down the road and get near Canal Street. I notice this little road with a few mincer clubs on the left. So we immediately turn right and it's Canal Street... FULL OF GAY CLUBS. So we can't bottle it now so we have to walk that way just to save face. Girl comes up and asked Biggles if he would buy his friend a flower. Cheap bastard says no. 6ft 4 black cross dresser approaches me and asks if I'm alright. I immediately burst into a fit of laughter. Maybe I'm still remembering Biggles' face when the girl thought he wanted my bum bum. The missus gets a phone call at this point from yours truly telling her we found Canal Street. I can't hear anything but laughter on the other end of the phone for a good 2 minute straight. She can't believe we went since she heard Biggles say he know about it. He is upset.
Anyway, we hit about 10 bars/clubs. Chat to a few nice young ladies but it soon becomes apparent that no fucker in Manchester can hold their drink. Us = quite sober. Them = falling around the place in droves. Find a pub and 3 polish chicks hit on us. I personally think it's because we happen to be the best dressed guys in Manchester. And that's in a shirt, jeans and shoes. Every other guy is a tramp. Oh and that the girls are massive racists who cringe every time a black guy came near them. Only we made things worse by cracking jokes with every single one of them (since they also aren't tramps). Get offers for a night cap but refuse once we spot a Subway open until 4am and being that we haven't eaten since 9am, we are fucking Hank Marvin here.
Everyone told us all night to get cabs to clubs but we walk everywhere. We also walk miles from our hotel and not a taxi in sight at 4am so it's a long walk back. The whole way back, Biggles' is bitching about how he is gonna get my bird back for the rib. I tell him he can't get me back for anything and she is better at jokes than me so he needs to give up. Plus I'm blaming him anyway since he said he knew about it. He says he just saw it on a map. Liar.
3 hours sleep and I'm out about again. Went to find a newspaper and just up the road from where I bumped into Mr Serra, I find Gabriel Gonzaga. Quick chat (no pic since Biggles is still in bed and I can't use my camera phone for some reason). Nice fella. Quick convo in English and Spanish where he tells me he is gonna KO Cro Cop in the 1st. That's never gonna happen though. Right?
After a quick nap, I wake to find Biggles watching Smokey And The Bandit movie with a young Sally Field. Jeez Louise! She was quite tasty back in the day. :naughty: Biggles decides he is going to the show wearing his night clothes. I go in my day stuff thinking the M.E.N is just up the road so we'll have time to come back and change. Up to the arena, David Heath is outside the fighters entrance. I can officially confirm that he is one massive fucker and he is not Gangrel. 30 minute wait to get in. Why does this arena not have more entrances? £10 a programme? Piss off. Mind you, it does look well put together unlike the shit you get at football matches or even worse... a wrestling show.
You know when you go to wrestling shows and you sit near some fucker who thinks he is so funny with his little sacastic comments? Well we happened to be sitting in front 5 of those fuckers. No UFC talk. All wrestling bullshit. During the show, one spills a beer over us. Well accidents happen and all so I don't mind. Biggles decides he wants to start UFC 71. You can't take this mong anywhere!
Show eventually starts. Paul Taylor gets a great reaction especially since no cunt knows who the hell he is. Oh and the fact the building is about 1/3 full is even more impressive. Edilberto Crocota puts up a decent fight for 2 round but Taylor is in full control. Not long into the 3rd, the first heavy high right kick of the night lands a beauty and it's good night Crocota. This is a hell of a little fight. Good opener. Biggles goes off to get the drinks and crisps...
Jess Liaudin vs. Dennis Silver is next. A French guy trying to use English expressions brings me much enjoyment. Apparently Liaudin needs the win and is looking for the submission of the night because he needs the dosh. A fine man. Silver takes Liaudin down early after a missed kick but ends up eating a triangle choke. That doesn't go exactly to plan so Liaudin moves into a fucking sweet armbar instead. Good pop until he spoke french in the post fight interview. Definately worthy of that submission bonus if it was gonna be the only submission of the night.
... Biggles returns with lots food and beverages. Best decision he has made all week. We have had nothing but a bacon and sausage roll since our 4am foot long subs (beer excluded). He waits for the Liaudin fight to start. "It's over dude. You missed it". He refuses to believe me until they leave the Octogan. Very funny moment.
After watch the big screens and seeing the UFC hype up Mr Valimaki, Mr Sakara comes out and absolutely lays a whooping on this fucker. For some reason, Valimaki turns away when he getting laid into and takes a good punch to the back of the napper. Mario Yamasaki stops for a time out. Maybe I missed something. Maybe the whole section I'm sitting in does. Nobody knows what happened here. Anyway, it restarts and Sakara goes into overdrive and continues this abuse for the KO. Another cracking short fight.
David Lee comes out for the next fight. He shouldn't have bothered. He looked like he didn't even want to fight tonight and guess what? He didn't bother. Unfortunately for him, Junior Assuncao did come to fight. How he lasted 2 rounds was beyond me. Another nice armbar but I'm still liking Liaudin for the bonus.
Matt Grice vs. Terry Etim. Biggest pop for Etim thus far. Apparently he was meant to lose this fight. Nobody told him though. Etim goes for a flying knee (always worth it for the pop) but misses and Grice hits a slam and some ground and pound. Etim somehow escapes this and ends up in a one arm guillotine. Grice goes limp and his legs give out but the fight doesn't get stopped. So Etim says fuck it and slaps another guillotine on and it does get stopped this time. I liked the fight. Apparently didn't look as good on TV.
Intermission time - I bump into 5 of the fittest girls I've ever seen. All wearing about as much as the UFC ring girls :y: Also see Jean Claude Van Dame. Looks like a jerk. About as tall as Matt Serra. I'm wishing Serra would kill him right now. Right before the show, music plays during intermission and you can see both Bruce Buffer and Mike Goldberg dancing away like they are at home with nobody watching. PPV is about to start and the people are going fucking nuts. Looked like they blew their load early because when the camera came on the arena, it was half as noisy as it was one minute before.
Silva vs. Kongo is first up. Kongo is over. Another fucking frog is popular in England??? I thought Kongo dominated the first round, second was all Silva cuddling. This isn't offensive fighting. Should have been stood up a ton of times. Third is much of the same but Kongo looks good standing. Shame his ground game is fucking shite. I have it 29-28. Who the fuck scored this 28-28? How do you even get a 28-28 fight?
Lyoto Machida vs. David "I'm not Gangrel" Heath is up. I have nothing to say other than I'd rather eat shit than watch another Machida fight. Everyone in America should be fucking over the moon you didn't see this. I'd watch Koscheck vs. Sanchez on loop for a week before I watch this again. Seriously, it was so bad. I nearly fell asleep. Biggles infact did fall asleep.
Elvis Sinosic is out next. Mini pop as we know who is coming out next. Lots of boos. Sinosic takes it in good humour. Blur's "Song 2" hits and the places goes apeshit. Even Bruce Buffer seems more into this. Round one is all Bisping. Round two... Bisping is down and everyone and I mean EVERYONE thought the fight was done when Sinosic sunk the kimura in. Bisping turns it around and continues the round 1 assault. Huge pop (of relief) when it's stopped. I thought Bisping would get a bigger reaction though.
Air con now dies and it's a sweat box. Crowd is tired from the shouting and poor Arlovski and Werdum are out next. Decent reaction considering. Solid first round, shitty rest of fight. HUGE POP for Randy Couture. Bisping decides to walk out again and another huge pop. Arlovski looks too worried about getting tagged since the first Sylvia loss. Werdum looks nothing like the Pride fighter he was. Boo for the fight. The crowd didn't want to boo Arlovski during his interview really but it had to happen. Respectful pop afterwards. Oh and is this fucker insane? U.S flag in England? Wrestling cunts behind us constantly call Arlovski "The Beard". If this was you, I'm sorry but you are fucking annoying".
Main event time. Gonzaga gets a decent reaction. Wild Boys hits and the people are standing and clapping like it's a fucking Duran Duran show. How does Mirko get this song over? When he comes out, I turn to Biggles and say I feel an upset here.
Fight starts and Gonzaga is shitting bricks. Sorry it's the exact opposite. Dude looks mean and stands strong standing, catches the first Cro Cop kick and takes it down and dominates. Wrestling geeks shouting for boston crabs and figure four leglocks. Cro Cop is apparently called "Crew cut". Dickheads. Herb Dean makes the shitty decision to stand this up. I'm the only person in the crowd who seems upset by this. Herb is forgiven though as... BOOM high right kick and Cro Cop is down. 50% of the crowd goes nuts. Other 50% is in stunned silence. I immediately call my buddy (and number 1 Cro Cop fan) Marko...
Me: "Dude you watching this show"
Marko: "Nah mate what happened?"
Me: "You hear this?" *holds phone up* "Cro Cop just got knocked the fuck out!"
Marko: "What!?"
Me: "He got knocked the fuck out! He is dead. They are trying to revive him now mate"
Marko: "hahahahaha dirty croat" (Marko is Serbian)
Me: "Ton of Croatians in near tears here"
Marko: "Really? Put one on the phone"
Me: "I'm not getting killed"
Marko: "Call you after this BBQ"
Me: "Coolio. Off to find a shovel to pick Cro Cop's body up with".
Go to leave the show as Mirko is talking. Rogan and Dana White are still trying to pick their jaws up.
Apparently Biggles is the smarter of us two as it's not past 11pm and we need to get drunk and yet I need to go get changed. Out at midnight and people are already falling about the streets of Manchester. Fucking fannies. Biggles pulls this fine ass Canadian chick who had eyes for me only to walk off after realising I had no intention of buying her and her pal drinks. Still she is an 7 out of 10 on her ugliest day. Everything else must censored at this point for various reasons.
Back at 5am, Biggles rings 118 500 asking for an escort service in Manchester. Girl hangs up. Rings again and a dude answers to his delight. Gives a number but it's closed. The fuckers. However we remember seeing a sign for the tropical palm or some shit - 24 hour anyway. Biggles decides to call for that number... result!
B: "Is this that kind of massage place I wanna know"
Girl: "I dunno what you mean"
B: "Come on dont be stupid now is it the place"
G: "yeah it is hehehehehe"
B: "what you got?"
G: "Chinese, african, carribean, english, all big tits"
B: "Do you do deliveries?"
G: "No sorry hotels don't let us"
B: "This one will. We left the door open"
G: "Okay I'll send one girl if you pay the taxi"
B: "Can she bring a pizza for us?"
Phone goes dead
I didn't see the problem there.
Damn this was fucking long. Sorry. Review of the bullshit.

Yeah that decison to stand them up was a bad call, becasue Gonzaga was working and getting good shots in.
Doesn't matter now though.

My friends a huge Cro Cop fan and the minute he read online this afternoon about the end he called and spoiled the whole fight for me. I couldnt do anything besides sit there knowing what was gonna happen.
I was pissed...
I avoided it for a f'n week then my buddy blurted it out on the phone..
:foc:
Finally watched this last night.. A couple of things..
-The high kick to Cro Cop was perfect.. He thought it was going for the body and went to block lower, meaning he leaned into it.. I am super suprised he walked out.. Could've sworn he's knee/ancle were fucked.. Doesn't suprise me as he's been knocked out before (e.g. Kevin Randleman)..
-I used to love Arlovski but after Sylvia KO'ed he, he is mad timid.. He is no where near the beast he used to be.. Kinda sad, cause for a while, he was my favorite heavyweight.. :(
-Bisping is a f'n monster.. Give him a real fight, Dana.. Him vs Rampage for a number one contender spot would be awesome..
Arlovski is gonna have to become a beast again or UFC is gonna stop using him. They were far from impressed with him and he might have even lost his title shot because of it.
Rampage would kill Bisping right now. I'd stick him in with Forrest Griffin or Keith Jardine. Maybe even bring back Vitor Belfort.
