View Full Version : The National League Favorite?

Who is the favorite to win the National League Pennant this year?
My choice is the Philadelphia Phillies. They scored a bunch of runs last year even with Pat Burrell hitting .209 and they completely revamped the bullben which was their main flaw of last season. Billy Wagner, Tim Worrell, Roberto Hernandez, they got back Kevin Millwood and added Eric Milton as their 4th Starter.
The Cubs will be the NLCS but fall to the Phils. It should be an awesome year.

Went with the Cubbies. You just got to root for them this year.

You only say the Phils because you are a goddamned mark. All I see from you is this forum is Illadelph teams this and that. NO ONE FUC</>KING CARES BECAUSE Philly is a WORTHLESS SPORTS TOWN.

There is no better rotation in the majors right now than the Cubs. Plus, they have Sammy...

Derrick Lee was a better pickup than Maddux IMO
Cubs all the way

A's. But yeah, the Cubs are the National Fav.
I would take Mulder, Hudson, Zito, Redman and Harden over the Cubs five anyday of the week.

^^ Good point. Somehow the A's slipped my mind.
But the Cubs have the best rotation in the NL.

Philly is a WORTHLESS SPORTS TOWN.
Once again Dave, you show how little you know about so much.
go do a google search and look at the history of sports in Philly.
The Sixers, Flyers, Phillies and even the recent Eagles.
Anyway, back on subject..
The Cubs look like the team to beat, but I'm going with the Astros.
Good pitchers, Good hitting and Good defense.

F U C K YOU DAVE WADDING. Where the **** are you from? Asshole, the Phillies are going to be smoking this year, just wait and see!
CF Byrd, M.
SS Rollins, J.
1B Thome, J.
LF Burrell, P.
RF Abreu, B.
C Lieberthal, M.
2B Polanco, P.
3B Bell, D.
PITCHERS
K. Millwood
R. Wolf
V. Padilla
E. Milton
B. Myers
BREAK IT DOWN POSITION BY POSITION AND THE PHILS HAVE THE ADVANTAGE IN EVERY ONE EXCEPT RIGHT FIELD.
Catcher: Lieberthal over Barrett
1st Base: THOME over Lee
2nd Base: Polanco over Gruzzy or Walker
Shortstop: Rollins over Gonzalez
3rd Base: Bell over Ramirez
Left Field: Burrell (normal Burrell) over Alou
Center Field: Byrd over Patterson
Right Field: Sosa over Abreu
If the Cubs are the "Favorites" thats fine, because then the pressure is on them.

Ok, at the moment...
Flyers, 1st in their Div and tied for most points in the league.
Eagles, 2 years in a row, NFC Championship game... that makes the one of the top 4 teams, 2yrs in a row.
Sixers - 2001 #6 seed lost 1st round, 2002 #4 seed, lost confrence semi-finals.
Phillies - yeah, they haven't done crap in awhile.
So, again... know what your talking about before you say a town is a "shit sports town".
I'm not a philly fan, but your not close there.
DaveWadding
02-19-2004, 06:58 PM
Flyers- I don't give a sh</>it about hockey, and they are looking like Phoenix Coyotes Redux right now anyways, despite their winning.
Eagles- Always the bridesmaid, never the bride mean anything to you?
Sixers- ALL they have is A.I. and he can score, but he certain can't shoot .500 consistently.
Phillies: See the Eagles.

Enough with the Phillies. The Cubs and the Astro's are the only teams who should even be on that poll.

3 NFC Championship Games. Yeah ok, we haven't won one yet, but we have gotten there 3 STRAIGHT YEARS ON THE BACK OF DONOVAN MCNABB and now we are going to get Terrell Owens and dominate the NFL. A whole lot of teams wish they could have done what the Eagles have done. The Eagles are a very good team and many NFL pundits have picked them as a favorite again next season. The Eagles aren't going away from the Top of the Heap.
The Flyers are so good. Top of the Eastern Conference and the close to the top of the NHL. They just got Alex Zhamnov of Chicago to help out while Roenick is out. Just wait when Robert Esche comes back, he's our Number 1 Goalie.
You come to a Philadelphia game, no matter what sport and wear opponent's colors and see what the f*ck happens. You're probably too much of a pussy to do it.
The Phillies have built themselves into a huge contender by doing it from within. Smart drafting, building the farm system. A lot of thanks goes to Mike Arbuckle our Director of the Farm System. He has worked wonders and now with the New Ballpark and added Revenue, we were able to go over budget (which is $100 million less than the Yankees) to get Thome, Bell, Millwood, Worrell, BILLY WAGNER, Eric Milton and others. This team is ready to do it. "THE TIME IS NOW".
By the way, Maddux is good and all but the Phillies ripped him up last season.
The Sixers need help. We have been in the finals this century but its time to remake the 76ers.
Placido Polanco is way better than Todd Walker OVERALL. Todd Walker might have had a career year last season but was routinely pulled for Damien Jackson for defensive purposes. Polanco is a clutch singles hitter with occasional pop, he was better OVERALL.
Same goes with Bell and Ramirez. Bell is way better defensively and the Phils aren't relying on Bell for much offense since he will hit 8th. Ramirez is a middle of the lineup (3-6) hitter and is not that great defensively.
Byrd hit .303 last year after hitting .198 in the first two months while Corey Patterson was sitting on his ass, injured. As of now, Byrd is better until Patterson proves me wrong.
THE ASTROS have Clemens and Pettite, Oswalt and somewaht Miller. IN A HITTER's PARK! Plus Bagwell, Biggio are getting old. Houston will be Wild Card at best.
Evanescence sucks

you have THOME! we have nomar, and manny
you have ABREAU! we have mueller and ortiz
you have BYRD (lol btw) we have damon and burks and varitek and millar and ect.,
lol shall we do pitching?
you have big, bad, overpriced and underperformed Kevin Milwood and we have Pedro Martinez and Curt Schilling. <-- the 2 best pitchers in the AL IMHO. Halladay is #3.

Yeah and almost every player from the Red Sox last year had a CAREER YEAR. I'd surely rather Jim Thome than Kevin Millar, Polanco over Pokey Reese, Pat Burrell over Manny (WHO DOESN'T WANT TO PLAY FOR THE RED SOX) and Bobby Abreu over Trot Nixon. Curt Schilling isn't the best. He had 2 great seasons with the Phillies.
Im really scared of Bill Mueller. Let me tell ya.
Oh by the way, The Flyers are going to finish off the Bruins tonight.

Lets play the season. And lets see how well the Red Sox do next season when Nomar, Pedro, and Ortiz leave. The BoSox aren't going anywhere this season.
Manny is a dog in the field. He's got a bad attitude and doesn't like where he is. In 2001, Pat Burrell hit 37 Home Runs and hit above average. He has spent two extra weeks in Clearwater to get back to that form. Thats dedication and Burrell will be back to his old self.

Just curious, but why no one talks about St. Louis is amazing. They will have pretty good pitching if Morris comes back from injury to his former self. They have Woody Williams, who is pretty good. Jeff Suppan is an adequate starter, and the have Isringhausen, who if healthy is one of the elite closers in the game. There offense is among the best, i mean Pulhois (Sp) is one of the best players in the game, if not the best, Edmonds is an excellant player. They picked of Reggie Sanders, who could have a good year, and they have some young player's who could do pretty well, ex. Bo Hart. Anyways, i voted for the Cubs, but i just find it weird that the Cards aren't even being mentioned by anyone.
DaveWadding
02-20-2004, 08:45 AM
because the Cards HAVE NO PITCHING. Morris is okay, Williams is average...and nobody else in their rotation (or pen, besides Isringhausen) is worth a damn.

Manny is really a good guy. The media makes him out to be something he's not. He loves it in Boston, David Ortiz and Pedro are his best friends
The Media does blow things out of proportion to an extent, but when your making 20 million a year, the least you can do is run out a fly ball. As to loving it in Boston, i just find that hard to believe, seeing he RENTS a penthouse for i think 250,000 a year, he is either stupider than a box of rocks, or he has no plans to stay in Boston. Any smart person would buy a house, then turn around and sell it if you get traded or sign elsewhere. Atleast that way your not losing money.

Manny is Manny, always has been and always will.
Yes, she he doesn't run down a ball or run out a fly that does piss me off, because there are times it costs us runs.
As for the penthouse, I dunno... when your making 20mil, a year, why not have a penthouse? Security, roomservice, etc...
I mean, if you could spend 1/80 of your salary for a top of the line place, w/ no worries of maintence, etc... why not?
