View Full Version : How would the WWE handle a main eventer's crisis?
Let's say that John Cena gets severely injured a day before WrestleMania. He absolutely cannot make the event, not even in an appearance.
How would the WWE handle such a crisis? Who would they replace him with? What kind of story for the title would they come up with?
Same with Batista/Taker.

They'd probably replace him with Khali.

They'd probably get some of the MITB participants to have some sort of match to see who gets to face HBK.

Or actually just pull someone out who lost a qualifying match.

If Cena got hurt, I'd have Shawn Michaels come out and say that it's not fair, Cena is just pulling out of the match so he doesn't have to face HBK. John Cena would then come out, and respectfully hand the WWE Championship over to HBK, and say that he really did want to test himself against Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania.
Vince McMahon then says that WrestleMania needs to have the WWE Title defended at it (despite the irony that it wasn't defended at the very first WrestleMania), so Vince removes Edge from the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, gives his spot to someone else (it can be anyone, but I'm personally thinking Finlay), and we get Shawn Michaels defending the WWE Championship against Edge in the main event of WrestleMania, where Edge is undefeated.
You could also make the match to decide the WWE Champion, which would actually have a little more suspense. Have Vince tell John Cena and Shawn Michaels that they just can't hand over the WWE Championship like that, so he holds it up between Shawn Michaels and Edge.
You could also make the Money in the Bank Ladder Match for the vacant WWE Championship (instead of competing for a title shot, they're competing for the title). Shawn Michaels can be added to the match, which would make it a 9-Man Match, but what are you going to do? I'd have Edge pull down the belt, becomming the new WWE Champion, and keeping his WrestleMania streak alive.
The World Heavyweight Championship is more tricky. I think the easy thing to do would be to have Mr. Kennedy step out of the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, and face either Batista or The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship. You can fill the vacant slot in Money in the Bank with Finlay, again.
I'd have Mr. Kennedy win the World Title if he does compete for it.

Thats actually a very good idea. I think though if it was someone else besides Edge, maybe the great khali. I think he deserves a shot. But I think as long as it would be Edge, people would accept it. Mainly because they're sick of edge getting title, defending, losing, getting title etc.

I think it'd be a lot simpler.
At the start of the show, Mr. McMahon would announce that Cena or Batista suffered a serious injury/accident and has to vacate the title. Sudden change of plans. He then announces that the winner of the MitB match goes on to face HBK/Taker for the vacated title later that night.
It does ruin the MitB concept a bit, but not really. Under worst-case scenario like that, it's the best solution.

Maybe, Cena would come out to hand over the WWE Title, but Vince would come and make a Triple Threat Match between Undertaker vs Batista vs
Shawn Michaels for Batista's World Title and WWE Title. The one to score 1st pinfall would take World Title and 2nd pinfall would earn WWE Title

I wouldn't award anyone the belt. I'd have the champion be forced to forfeit it. Then the winner of the MITB match would face off against the existing challenger for the vacant title.
Then I'd hold a MITB rematch at Backlash.
At least with brand extension, this occuring wouldn't spell a disaster for the buildup to the card. They could simply move the other main event to last, and through some clever booking with a vacant title and the MITB match they could come up with something to suffice, while the other main event could stand in as the headliner if it wasn't already.
In the days before brand extension, this happening would be far more devestating to the event.

p.s. Wrestlemania 13 was supposed to be HBK vs Bret up until just a month before, then Shawn lost his smile and all kinds of things went on.
The title was chaning hands multiple times in the month leading up to WM, the royal rumble winner didn't compete, and we got Undertaker vs Psycho Sid as a main event.
That was about as close to this type of disaster as it's ever gotten.

A 9-man ladder match? Fuck it, lets just put the whole roster into a ladder match for it. I'd have Scotty 2 Hotty win the World Title if he did compete for it.

Put the title around a greased up Scotsman and whomever catches him is the champion. As we all know, there's nary a creature alive that can outrun a greased up Scotsman.

It doesn't matter how injured Cena is, he goes over clean at Mania. Then while he's off for surgery or whatever, he keeps the Title ala Trish. Ironically, Cena will remain injured and retain the title for the rest of his life, never having another title defense because simply....surgeons can't see him.
Vince will be forced to rejoin Smackdown and Raw to make The World Heavyweight Championship the only active major title.

I still say they're missing the boat by not doing an Umaga/Khali verbal debate.

Edge vs. Shawn Micheals for a WM main event would be really really really hot.
