Anyone seen the movie and read the book?

I read the book many many moons ago for school, and was wondering if it was as dissimilar from the movie as the ads make it seem.

Haven't seen the movie or read the book, but I thought I'd mention that on Ebert and Roper they said that it was pretty close to the book, and that the ads don't do it justice, since they make it look like an all action/fantasy flick.

i do remember them making up the fairy tale land in the book but i dont rememebr them emphasizing on it too much. just remb that kid wanting to bang his teacher and the kinda sad ending of the book. up there with "where the red fern grows" book.

I've read some reviews, and apparently it is a pretty top notch movie. It doesn't have special effects or fantastic elements in it at all. You just see the kids as they are, using their imaginations to create Terebithia.

It's not going to be the best movie of the year, but it apparently is just as effective as the book at tugging at the ol' heart strings, and is a relatively honest portrayal of young lives.

Compared to some of the shit Hollywood throws at kids these days, I think the lack of special effects is more magical than anything that could ever be implied by them.

Saw the movie a few days back with my wife and nephew.

Cute kids movie, and really cute story. The little sister steals the scenes with being so cute, and the girl who plays the boy's friend is a good little actress herself. I think his name is Robert Patrick or whatever, the guy from Marine & Terminator, he does good as the dad as well. :y:

My interest isn't even in seeing it; I'm mostly curious because of the memories I have of the book.

Still, it struck me as odd the way it was portrayed in the trailers. So I'ma wonderin'.

i remember when the teacher picked the kid up at his house and took him to a museum. and at the beginning he was training really hard right, so he could run faster than the kids at recess.

I have to say it was pretty good. Lots of child acting, so you can't expect a whole lot. I read the book way back, but I don't remember it. Awfully sad book for me to read in like the 4th or 5th grade.

At least they don't blow smoke up your ass, though.

One of the few reeeming things about the Harry Potter books is that they deal with some dark subjects. It's not inherrently good, but a breath of fresh air when children'd literature is all "Happily ever after" or struggles in mild adversity these days.

Tarabithia dealt with some serious loss issues, and while I don't really remember the specifics of the book, I remember that it impacted me more profoundly than a lot of the other crap they had me read, just because it seemed, unlike the others, to be a little more than filler.
