View Full Version : When was the last time you majorly, majorly marked out?

Not just talking about like... Taker coming back. I'm talking about huge OH MY FUCKING GAWD I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS!!!!! mark out.
Because I don't think we've really had one of those in a while. The last one I can remember is the RAW where ECW started the Invasion. That was one incredible RAW, despite the Steph McMahon ECW takeover at the end.
Last one was when Matt Hardy just randomly showed up on RAW. It was like "WTF, WAS THAT MATT HARDY!?"...
I'd say Angle in TNA, BUT it was just a video package. If he was actually at the event live (and I saw it, which I didn't), that would have been the last one for me.

I marked out pretty hard for the first One Night Stand. Pretty much the whole night, except for the "invaders" shit and the Austin run-in. Heyman's "shoot" was a serious mark-out moment for me.

I bolted up in the seat and went 'shhhhiitttttt' when Carlito came out during McMahons promo a few weeks ago.
It came to nothing, which meant I got back quickly to my whacking off.

As far as in person events, Vengeance last year. I got to see Rob Van Dam who is one of my favs in person. I never thought I'd get to see him live, especially after I quit watching wrestling in early 2002. BUT, I not only just got to see him but got to see him parade around with the WWE and ECW World Titles. So for me that was a more personal mark out moment.
As far as on TV stuff goes I would porbably have to agree with the Invasion angle in general. The early happenings of it were all mark out moments. Aside from that I think (for me at least) I would have to go all the way back to Jericho's debut on Raw.
I just remembered, and had to add, RVD winning the ECW Title at ONS2. Because it was in the back of my mind that someway, somehow, Cena was going to win. So I had a big mark out moment when I was actually seeing the 3 count and then RVD holding the strap.

Probably Benoit winning the title. Edge winning the title would have been markout if I witnessed it, but I had stopped watching at that time.
I didn't mark out as much for RVD winning as I thought I would, and I marked out a little bit for DX this year, not too much because I knew it was coming, but I won't deny it got me to mark some.
But majorly, I'll have to say Benoit at WMXX. Which says a lot, it's been 3 years since I marked THE FUCK out. There was a time where there were major markout moments monthly.

WMXX when Benoit won the title, before that when the Rock came out to help Foley against Evolution. Before that, likely the Rock returning during the Invasion storyline, and whenever Austin returns I mark out and shiver like a school-girl at a backstreet boys concert.

My greatest mark-out moment was far and away Hogan vs. The Rock (Wrestlemania 18).
I watched the PPV at the theatre. COMPLETELY SOLD OUT. If you thought the Skydome was filled with Hulkamaniacs, then you should have seen this theatre! When Hogan did the "watchya gonna do?!" finger point at The Rock, the crowd went nuts!
One of the greatest adenaline rushes of all-time. The place literally ERUPTED when Hogan nailed the leg drop. I swore I jumped like 10 feet in the air. I've never seen anything like that theatre. VERY special moment, and I'm glad I was a part of it. For the next month or so during our tennis matches, we'd always do Hogan poses after winning points, etc.
As MARKISH as this sounds, the rebirth of Hulkamania at WM-18 was my biggest markout moment.....and my one and only MAJOR mark-out moment.
(I had many "mild" markouts moments during the Attitude Era, but absolutely NOTHING compared to Hogan's rebirth at WM-18). Unfrigginbelievable. I get goose bumps just typing this!

It would prob be the original ONS. The whole night had its mark-out moments, esp. hearing the classic Enter Sandman entrance and all the names that came to the show. That was something.

I'm sure it was awesome at the theatre, but it does not begin to compare to 70,000 people all marking out at once. I would seriously consider it one of the greatest moments of my life.

Benoit winning the title is probably Tier 1a (Invasion start is Tier 1). The Benoit and Eddie celebration was classic. However, there was part of me that expected that. A tiny, hopeful part.
Also on Tier 1a: Sandman's entrance at ONS 1. The crowd singing along... that was awesome.

To me, at the time, it seemed as if they were building a Steve Austin vs Ric Flair match for the title, what with the little stare off at the end, but Flair didn't even start wrestling regularly until about 9 months after this.
Also, I'd forgotten about that Austin entrance music. Pretty crap, huh?
I marked out big time for Edge cashing in his money in the bank and winning the title.
Maybe because I hate Cena so, so, so much. Plus, it took me by surprise. :P

I don't care what anyone says, Flair barely got a pop for his WWF return. Even in his hometown.
That's what I was thinking. Pretty lackluster.
Jeritron
03-03-2007, 09:12 PM
There practically no reaction when his music hits. And then I'm thinking, thats strange, maybe they'll pop big when he physically comes out through the curtain, and no pop.
I mean, theres an ambience of cheers, but thats common for any wrestlers entrance whos relatively over.
VERY dissapointing. At least compared to some of the pops I've seen for returning wrestlers, let alone ones who've been gone 10 years and are of his status.

Theres something truly special about a Raw title change. I think its because at Wrestlemanias and PPVs, its more expected and though fans mark out, they saw it coming. Raw has that atmoshpere of unpredictability and a Raw world title change is a once a year (if that) thing. So the crowd marks out that much more.
It's somethign I wish they'd done more, because I've seen the title change hands a million times on PPV and for some reason nothign tops changes like this.

I'll bet that false finish would have been awesome live too...I mean, I remember hating Cena like a smarky little bitch so much that I screamed when I sensed the Cena win after that.
It's also the last time I remember the crowd counting/popping like that. :/ Probably since the Benoit win honestly.

Damn. Good times. Austin's return after being out for a couple of months - unannounced return - sent the crowd wild and Foley, who was more over than people like Lashley and Bats can ever dream of being, winning the title sent them over the edge.
I think like Jerry says, its all about the unexpected. Austin return was totally unannounced. Nowadays all we get is 'Batista will return in x days' and there's nothing particularly exciting about that when its drummed into your head every fucking week.

So today I was thinking of what it means to mark out. Maybe we've all been a little blind. I've used the term "mark out" as a way to say to get into the show. To believe in it again even if it's just for a moment. All I'm seeing here are happy memories. So here's a bit of a sadder mark out moment.
RVD winning the WWE title.
At this point in time I thought that WWE was going to keep ECW a little more... ECWish, not WWEish. I was thinking about what the WWE title means to WWE, and my memories. I've seen Andre The Giant try to sell that belt, Hulk Hogan defend it a number of times, The Undertaker win it, Mick Foley and Chris Jericho shocking the world on Monday Night Raw, Triple H and HBK showing the world they're the best, The Warrior beating Hogan for it, Randy Savage as champion, along with Ric Flair, The Rock, Yokozuna, Kevin Nash, Bret Hart, Steve Austin, Eddie, and more. Not to mention the champions who are before my time who I've read up on like Buddy Rogers, Bob Backuld, Stan The Man, Bruno Sammartino, and others. Let's not forget the ones who never made that far, but gave it all they had for that goal. Roddy Piper, Owen Hart, The Honky Tonk Man, Jesse Ventura, Jimmy Snuka, The Million Dollar Man, and everyone in the 1992 Royal Rumble who wanted the title.
They were not wrestling in bingo halls.
With all due respect to RVD I didn't want to see the WWE title go to ECW. The WWE title should have stayed with WWE. It shouldn't have gone to ECW. I've been a WWE/F fan for over 20 years with a good memory for the last 15, and that title going to ECW was a major step down. It couldn't happen, it wouldn't happen. There's too much history behind the title. I'm just glad I never saw the match.
I was having dinner with a friend that night, and she got a call from her brother after he got the results. I was given the news that a WWE title was no longer with WWE.
I was so pissed off I almost cried. At this point in time ECW was looking like it's own company, and I bought into it, getting my emotions wound up that weekend. I'm not taking a damn thing away from RVD, it's just the WWE writers did their jobs right. They got me so wrapped up in the show that I believed it was real.<table><tbody><tr class="odd"><td width="30%">
