There has been some talk of making Todd Grisham the play-by-play man for ECW. This also indicates what people think of Joey Styles right now.
WWE is thinking about adding an authority figure to ECW. ECW writers Dusty Rhodes and Dave Lagana recently came up with a list of names for the role. Rhodes suggested that Paul Heyman briefly become the General Manager of ECW. He would get then get attacked by the New Breed faction, and he'd come back again as a babyface manager for the ECW Originals, and in particular, Rob Van Dam (with the idea that this would help keep RVD from leaving). However, Vince McMahon quickly shot the suggestions down. It was also suggested for Heyman to go down to OVW and DSW to book & teach promos, but it is believed that he turned that request down.
When Brad Armstrong was originally hired by WWE last September, the plan was for him to be an agent for ECW house shows. But the shows were canceled, so that was off the cards. They then tried him out as a color commentator, but that didn't work out either. They are now thinking about making him an agent again.
From backstage reports at the 2/20 SmackDown/ECW tapings, it's very clear that much of the ECW cast is looked down upon. The dressing room vibe at RAW was enjoyable, but on SmackDown/ECW, everyone was on edge. Although, part of that had to do with the production side as the building they were in is much smaller than most buildings they do SmackDown/ECW tapings in.
Here is a rundown of the ECW talent with heat at the 2/20 tapings:
- Sabu and Sandman changed in the extras/jobbers locker room in an attempt to lessen the amount of heat they currently have.
- Matt Striker has heat with JBL and thus he was hiding his bags in the extras/jobbers locker room to keep something from happening to them.

Well at least the Cruiserweights have company now.
LOL, boy, I wonder what constitutes being in the "jobbers" locker room.

Isn't everyone on ECW a jobber?
"ECW Worker" and "Jobber" are interchangeable.

Why don't they just change the name of ECW?

Ugh, Grisham being a commentator of anything is terrible though.
Why don't they just change the name of ECW?
I thought they changed it to "Red Velocity" already...

Todd Grisham isn't really so bad, but I'd hate to see him replace Styles.

He is terrible. Did you ever watch Heat with him announcing? Nevermind, no one watches Heat. They're just slowly taking away every "ECW" aspect of ECW and making it more and more like a WWE brand.

I just don't think he's that bad, and I watched Heat all the time when it was on TV.

Yeah, Todd Grisham gets so much shit. I think a lot of it stems from the Chris Benoit DVD, where he and Benoit did commentary, and Grisham came off as knowing nothing about professional wrestling.
I will say this: Either the guy was just dumbing it down to make the DVD more accessible to idiots, and to put Chris Benoit's career into terms the most uneducated fan can understand, in the meanwhile acting stupid to get a few laughs (the guy apparently has a quirky sense of humour) OR He is one of the fastest studies in the history of sports entertainment.
The guy really isn't that bad. I've enjoyed him quite a lot on Heat, especially when he was with Joey Styles or Steve Romero. A paraphrased segment from Todd Grisham's commentary this week on Heat.
Lilian Garcia: Weighing in at 34 Stone...The Highlanders!
Jonathan Coachman: I've always wondered if Lilian knows what 34 Stone means...
Todd Grisham: I was "stone" more than 34 in college.
Jonathan Coachman: *laughs*
Todd Grisham: I mean my weight...it fluctuated for a while.
He could do quite well on ECW, and seeing as Styles and Tazz have no chemistry, and Styles is being butchered on ECW (despite still being the best play-by-play commentator they have, merely for his voice and wit), I wouldn't mind it if they had Joey Styles either do alternate commentary for PPVs on DVD (which could be awesome, give Styles a chance to just run amok on No Way Out, and it might get some increased sales) or if he became a commentator in one of the development leagues, and they had him become a manager, or something.
He's no Paul Heyman character-wise, but Joey Styles could take on the role of mouthpiece for the Originals, since he would be close to them, and is an Original himself.
So yeah, my thoughts on this:
* The Grish isn't bad
* It will at least be fun to hear Tazz rip on him
* Max Bretos (who I am a fan of for no apparent reason at all) could take over on Heat)
* Joey Styles can become a mouthpiece (the role of manager may be a bit weird, but I can see Styles being a "valet")
* Todd Grisham's sense of humour would actually click well with Tazz, in my opinion

Well, there is worse but he's still pretty bad and having him replace Styles is extremely stupid.

Personally, I'd rather see Joey Styles released and go do commentary for TNA. They love their team of Tenay and West, though, so that won't happen. Maybe he could do commentary for ROH? We wouldn't get to hear him as often, but he'd be a great voice for them.
