Always heard the term but never knew what it really meant.

I think it refers to a person who is more neutral then aligned with face or heelish tendencies.

a wrestler who acts heelish but gets FACE pops from the crowd anyways...

..DX, Austin, Angle, Jericho, Raven, Carlito, Mr. Kennedy, etc.. where the fans just cheer them because they are TOO awesome at what they do and are entertaining.

Nah, they're clean cut. The tweeners are people that are not BOOKED as a clear cut heel or face. The fans not responding how you'd expect doesn't make someone a tweener.

austin was a great example. A wrestler who character was a heel but the crowd would pop for him. Cena is not a tweener. even though he is booked as face and gets booed. Cena is just shitty.

Look at the Angle/H fued over Stephanie. They were both tweeners there (at least right up until the end.) Neither were booked Good or bad. It was up to the audience to decide who they sidded with. That's what being a tweener is. As Pepsi man said, not being BOOKED to be either. Just being.

Steve Austin in 1997

Dude, you haven't read the other posts or what? A tweener is someone who doesn't have a defined disposition. Crowd reaction has nothing to do with it. Austin acting like a heel made him a heel. Cena acting like a face makes him a face.

Austin in 1997 you could kind of say as he was turning face. He was feuding with the Hart Foundation, who were the obvious "bad guys", but he was still pretty much a dick who said he didn't give a damn about the fans (character wise) and used heel tactics for quite some time.

Austin's entire gimmick up until he was pussified (around the time of the "What" chants) was basically a face playing a heel character.

Yeah, Somewhat like that, or my level 20 epic Disciple of Cena, who is Chaotic-Evil. And still receives cheers.

Nah, he asked the crowd to "give me a Hell Yeah!", stood alone, and took on the administration, who tried to make his life a living hell. Definite face.

But his actions were heelish. If he did the same (or similar) gimmick in the 80's he definitely would have been heel.

The times were changing, true. But before that point in time he would have been heel.

That was my entire point. He was playing a heel character as a face compared to before him which made it fresh.

And if the Punisher were a comic book character in the 60's, he would have been a villain. That's moot. Austin was an anti-hero, and it worked. He did bad things, but you cheered him anyway
