I don't think too many people actually remember how big the Hogan/Andre match actually was at the time. New or younger wrestling fans who were not around at the time probably have no idea. I remember the buildup, Hogan was the biggest thing in the world at the time, like a living super hero... and Andre was Andre, bigger then life. Wrestlemania 3 was featured on the front page of The Sunday Sun the day of the event and took up several pages inside talking about Hogan vs Andre and stuff like Randy Savage vs Ricky Steamboat.

Plus, for years, I never knew how badly Andre was hurt for this match, which is a testament to Hogan's selling and the promotion of the match. It's a fun match if you can forget everything you think you know and just enjoy the kayfabe. I remember watching the Piper's Pit episode that built this feud where Andre ripped the cross off of Hogie's chest. It was one of the earliest wrestling memories I have and yeah it probably made me cry.

Anyway, let me get to the point... Do you think WrestleMania 23 will be as huge as WrestleMania 3 was? Why or why not?

I'll laugh my ass off if like half the stadium is empty and they still claim they have 84,683 fans.

They'll say that there is 123,329 fans there and when Cena comes out they'll claim that 200,000 fans are "on their feet for the champ."

IT'S STILL REAL TO ME DAMMIT!

And when he wins they will claim that "754,000 fans are going nuts"...

No, that's when Lashley wins his match.

They'll say 2 million when Cena wins.

Actually, 2 million will be when Cena hits the Five Knuckle Shuffle.

When he wins JR will claim that every living thing in the known and unknown universe are standing on their feet.

That's when he hits the FU.

When he actually wins, JR will say that the aliens living on Mars are jumping up and down in celebration.

WrestleMania 23 could be a great WrestleMania. That's a big could, though. Cena will need to turn heel, Edge would need to end The Undertaker's streak after he wins the World Heavyweight Title, some stars will need to be made, etc.

I don't trust the WWE to do that.

With the current style of 5 minute booking there won't be another MASSIVE feeling Mania.

It will in no way be as big of an event or have a huge feeling that WM3 had, nor will anything anytime soon, regardless of the venue.

The closest thing since has been Wrestlemania 17. It featured The Rock versus Austin in their primes in what was a HUGE matchup. It was the culmination and height of the attitude era boom and a return to the massive venue. The card was tremendous and the talent pool was huge. It was also a landmark event cappign the end of an era and the dawning of a new one. The monday night war ended just weeks earlier, and everything was at a peak.

Wrestling's come too far for it to ever create something with a Wrestlemania III feel again and this year will be no different. This year you have no real mega, recognizable-even-by-non-wrestling-fans star competing in the event (closest being John Cena who is no where near the level of mainstream popularity Hogan was at WMIII). Plus, and this is just my opinion, the buildup for the matches this year has failed to incite any real mark-out excitement or anticipation. Maybe it's because there are two face/face main events. I find myself wishing to feel for Wrestlemania 23 the way I felt for past Wrestlemania's like 3, 6, 14, 15, 17 but it's just impossible given what the booking has been going into this event over the past few weeks.

Its tough for wrestling to really capture that kind of feel again...I popped in some of the older Wrestlemanias yesterday to watch on DVD. The way it was presented, the way the crowd was, it was a larger than life atmosphere, it felt like an event everyone was watching.

Managers coming to the ring in fancy tuxedos, celebrities, etc. etc. Esp after last year's WM I attended, I remember looking around the building we were in and thinking...this is where they chose to have a wrestlemania?...Its impossible to recreate that feel again. Esp after the era of wrestling that acknowledges it is only a hsow.

Not since WM17 or even 18 has it really had that feel you were watching something special.

This wrestlemania won't have that feel to it. There's nothing major to be excited about. It could happen someday, but it won't be 23

They wont have it for the next couple of years even. Until they find that next generation megastar, like a hogan or austin or rock, they wont have that feel for them. Without the proper talent, its not the same

I remember 18 being the last mania that made any sense to me, 20 was alright, bt only beacuse we knew what the title sitaution was gonna lead too, and it was the 20th mania ever. it was a big deal, but not for the same reasons as the others. but beniot and eddie made it something none the less

I think this could possibly be the worst mania in awhile.

I think this could possibly be the worst mania in awhile.

Could be, but don't think any will top the crappyness of WM 9. WM 16 came close, but WM 9 takes the cake when it comes to the worst in my book.

I don't know if it'd be worth sitting though 3.5 hours just to watch HBK carry Cena to a decent match. The MITB will be a huge cluster fuck. 8 men is too many.

Not those 8 men. Most of them are pretty fitting for a ladder match. First of all you have the Hardys, and Edge. CM Punk fits in there like a glove. The rest are more grounded but should be damn good. It's a better offering than last years compettitors, which were pretty good.

8 men isn't too many. 2 of the best ladder matches I've ever seen were 8 man ladder matches. TLC 4 on Raw and TLC 3 on Smackdown.
They were excellent.

It's not like 8 people is anything too out there, since all it takes is for 2 men to cancel eachother out and its 6, which isn't too much?

What was with the enormos ladder on Raw? That thing was massive.

LOL, did you notice that it actually started to contort when they just bumped into it? I seriously hope they use a sturdier ladder than that weak-ass thing.
