They announced the new Xbox 360 Elite this morning (12:00 Eastern) which will be black, cost $479, have a 120GB HDD (compared to the 20GB one with the Premium 360), and HDMI port/cable. It was rumored to be limited edition but it appears it's going to be a permanent third addition.

There is also suppose to be another "big" announcement tonight at the same time which is rumored to be the date of the Halo 3 beta. Not sure though.

I was debating on getting a 360 soon, probably won't but still, and I may just spend the extra $80 and get the Elite. Sounds like a good enough deal. Looks nice too. If they announced MGS4 for the 360 I probably would have to pick one up. But until they do...

(Because this thread probably won't go far with just that) Sony said, in reply to the Elite, "We think every PlayStation 3 owner should have an 'elite' experience, which is why we include an internal hard drive and HDMI output in every PS3 we sell, along with the 50 GB of storage capacity on a high definition Blu-ray disc." Also, Sony also issued a series of talking points asserting that the release of the 360 Elite "further validates the PS3 business model, which [Microsoft] criticized at launch."

I heard about the elite version of the 360 on another site. Wish they came up with this sooner. I'd definately buy it.

But this 120 gig. hard drive. I wonder if it's available seperate?

I believe it is, but it was pretty expensive from what I remember.

Yeah they are selling it separately for like $180.

Edit: $179 and it's suppose to come with a data transfer cable to switch over everything.

I was waiting for it to finally be confirmed, after months of "confirmations."

Cool for people who don't have a 360, but it's not worth it to upgrade unless you are that snobby about HDMI. They are ripping people off pretty badly on the HDD, go buy a 500GB USB hard drive for the same price on Newegg. :wtf:

Once I get a job, my first two paychecks are going for one of these new 360's. That, and R6 and a year of XBL.

I'd say MS is kicking ass right now. Shway.

I want a 360 even more now, but I gotta wait for a lot more games that I want.

Ok, so for those of you with regular ass 360 HD, how much space gets used up on game saves, d/s, music rips, etc?

And I'd like details.

Well, first off, you have like 13 GB free. Usable, viable space.

Next, Music doesn't seem to take up much space. I don't know how much is actually music on my fdrive, but I didn't take a lot up.

What's killed me is demos. Demos I've downloaded and played have run between 700 MB and 1.5 GB in sized. Keeping in mind you have 13 GB to start, that means even a couple of demos will put a fucking dent in your HDD.

Game saves are negligible, far as I've seen. Music is negligible unless you want a LARGE library there. Most of the DLC is negligible. Videos? Don't know. Gates thinks streaming means you don't need to have a large library saved. They seem to eat a lot, but I can't tell you specifics.

I really wish I could get a cheap drive as an alternative to the official. I tried the technique I had previously seen, and it didn't work as a storage device.

I had a couple TV show episodes downloaded and was down to like 2 GB left. The built in HDD is pretty lame, but I have an extra 80GB USB drive that works if I need to use that.

Wow. The other "big" announcement was a new browser called "Deepfish" for mobile phone users. lol Pretty horrible that they hyped these announcements and one was something that's pretty much been confirmed for months and something ridiculously stupid. Oh well.

Guess I'll probably get the elite version then.

I'm yet to get an external to work on my 360.

If you're getting one, that would probably be a better way to go.

Unfortunately.

Yup, now I'll just have to make sure I get a black Wii to match my own.

Kane Knight
03-29-2007, 04:30 PM
It'll never match; the Wii is only like 3" thick.
