View Full Version : All The Little Things You Like or Hate
I was thinking of some things about wrestling that I miss and other things I don't like. For example, everyone clothesline so damn much now and it looks ridiculous when the wrestler gets back up so quickly and repeatedly. What happened to drop kicks and body slams. Also when wrestlers get Irish-whipped to the buckle or get pushed towards the ropes, they never go full-bore anymore. They look so slow and lazy.
People may think the way The Rock sells look ridiculous but I loved it. Watching Bret made me think every wrestling move hurt. Every time he gets slammed into the corner, clotheslined or something the pained look on his face looked so genuine.
Anyways, the point of this thread is to discuss all the little things you miss, like or hate about wrestling.

I like when they check the wrestlers before the match for hidden weapons etc. It makes it seem more real.
I hate when they don't introduce certain competetors to the ring during adverts.

I kinda love when the wrestlers enter and they wait to announce them when theres no music and they're both in the ring.
Kinda like boxing, they do it rarely but when they do it's a nice change.

I hate the catapult.
I miss chain wrestling that involved more than chops.

What happened to cage matches? When's the last time we got a cage match on Raw?
It was always cool when Raw would come on live and you'd see the cage and know there was a cage, often times they even showed it intentionally. But you didn't know what it would be. They'd announce it later on and it'd be awesome. It happened pretty often.
Come to think of it, I miss tuning into Raw and not knowing what the card would be. Now they announce any match of meaning days or weeks beforehand to increase interest and ratings. Theres no more big matches made in the first 5 minutes of Raw anymore.

I'm glad they put JR and King back at ringside btw. Pissed me the hell off when they pulled a Nitro and put them up on the stage.
I also miss the Lugz boot of the week. And the JVC kaboom box ads. I miss the "feel the moment" ads that aired between Walker Texas Ranger and Raw weekly. I miss thorn in the eye.
I also like televised title changes.
Street fights where they would end up going all around inside the building like the parking lots or near concession stands.

I miss the IC Title being respected. I also miss there only being one major title in a promotion. I also miss Tag Team divisions with a Championship that's worth a damn.

I liked it when matches and promos seemed to be more to the wrestlers' styles, and didn't seem as scripted and forced by management.
I also liked it when Jerry Lawler was a heel, and there was a dynamic between him and Jim Ross.

I liked it when there was more than 3 fucking storylines on Raw

Along with missing the tag division, I miss real tag team. You know tag teams with matching outfits, and a team name, and their main goal was to win the tag titles. I hate two guys teaming together just because they have nothing better to do.
I have nothing better to do. Anyone want to be my tag partner?

I miss The Fink, the old WWF title belt, the old IC title belt, the old tag team titles, the Million Dollar Title, Ted Dibiase's music, Trish Stratus' boobs, The New Age Outlaws intro, sing-along with The Rock, The Conquistadors, comedy moments, storylines and performers that you care about, setting up my VCR to tape Raw on a friday night and worrying about it when I was out getting pissed, only one brand, the old Smackdown set with the oval-tron, the belts not being a prop and worn proudly by their owner, Christian's WWE music, Molly Holly and the DX intro without the crappy 'pan the crowd' effects.
Oh, and Chris Jericho. But that's not a little thing.

Jeritron, there was a cage match on Raw 2 weeks ago. Wasn't any good, but it answers your question.

I miss they way guys used to cut promos backstage before matches when Mean Gene or someone would interview them....now all the backstage segments are two guys talking like they dont know the camera is there
Jeritron

Not sure what you're talking about. They have the Mean Gene style interviews all the time, in addition to the oblivious conversations too.

no, its differnt the way they do it...the way its conducted just has a different feel to it

Maybe because it's not the 80s and Mean Gene....
When Maria, Josh Mathews or Todd Grishiam interview wrestlers and hold the mic in front of the camera station with the backdrop, its the same style. Anything thats different is because its different interviewers, wrestlers and a different time period. Sorry, but it's the same style and idea.
Just like Kevin Kelly and Michael Cole in the attitude era
or Doc Hendrix before them.
But do you care for any of the modern backstage interviewers? Not really, although Krystal I think is doing a good job lately.

Maria's extremely entertaining as an interviewer.

When the champs looked like gods carrying the belts, and not just people walking to the ring with a title belt.
Like when the Rock would come out, climb the turnbuckle and hoist it into the air. Or when Taker dropped to a knee, and rose it like he did his urn.
Look at the way its carried now, its like an accessorie and not a source of pride.
Jeritron

Thats because of who's holding the belts. If Taker wins you'll get that pose, and Edge looks like the man when he's got the belt.

I get the point about the new interviewers not being as iconic as the older ones. That could just be nostalgia, but there was definitely more chemistry between Mean Gene and the wrestling interview.
I miss when the shows has an unpredictable feel to them. And when the WWE's attempts at humour weren't pitiful.

You know, say what you want about HHH, but when he wears the belt, or even holds it, there is a reverence for it. Even that time when he was crying on Bischoff's shoulder.

If I have to see another bronco buster from Maria I doubt I will ever watch another diva match again. It looks so incredibly terrible it would drive X-Pac/Syx Pac to the brink of insanity.
