View Full Version : Defunct Championships You Loved
Originally this was going to be for the Hardcore Championship in particular, but there are a few belts out there I liked and aren't used anymore, so I'm starting a thread dedicated to them.
Probably one of my favorites was the Hardcore Championship...in all terms it was WWFs ripoff of the ECW Championship, but I still liked the concept of a belt fought over with no rules other than to win...the whole 24/7 thing I thought was stupid though.
Also I use to love the European Championship. I don't really know why, but seemed like a cool belt, expecially when HBK held it at the same time as the WWF Championship. Also sort of felt like it was Bulldog's leaving legacy to the WWF as he was the first champion, but guess that ended with RVD. I still have a plastic replica of this one.
My last on my personal list is the WCW Television Championship. Not really sure why, but I always loved this title though it seemed to be treated like dirt near the end of WCW, eventually just being forgotten about. I remember Chris Benoit, Fit Finley, and Booker T. all carrying great fueds over the title, and even the short run of Chris Jericho which was kind of cool.

I loved the WWF Hardcore Championship. Great title right there.
Also, my other favorites would be WCW US and WCW TV Titles. I ALWAYS wanted to win those Championships as a kid. They were the best to me & meant more to me than the World Title even.
With the US Belt being on Steve Austin, Ricky Steamboat, Vader, Sting, Ric Flair, DDP, etc. and the matches that went with that; total classics. Loved that Title to pieces. With the TV Title, Regal, DDP, Johnny B Badd, Booker T, Benoit, Luger, Arn Anderson, etc. Awesome feuds and matches and a great enchancement title that elevated guys liked Jericho, Ultimo Dragon, Iaukea, etc.
After that would be the WCW World Championship, since it's gone.
Sad to see that all the above mentioned Titles treated like shit.

The WWF Hardcore ttle and the WCW TV title.
The hardcore because it was freaking cool with the 24/7 rule.
The WCW TV title because it meant that there was a title shot at least once a week. Every Nitro the WCW tv champion would defend their title on TV (hence, the name, d'uh).

The World Wrestling Federation World Heavyweight Championship.
The World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Championship.
The World Wrestling Federation World Tag Team Championship.
Those three championships were awesome and are greatly missed in the NeanderCarl home, especially the I-C.

The WCW Cruiserweight Tag titles looked promising, but alas, WCW went under shortly after they were created.
Big fan of the WCW Television title hunt.
Also loved the Hardcore title, especially when it was defended "24-7."

Actually, I liked them but I didn't like them if that makes sense. I thought it was cool to have this championship that was garenteed some high flying action, but I always considered the World Tag Team Championship the belts that helped pushed smaller wrestlers who weren't going to get a singles title other than Cruiserwieght up. I felt that the new championship might just keep them down.
Also I wasn't sure to mention the WCW United States Championship, because as it stands right now, WWE is claiming the current US Championship is the same title. Though like you, back in the WCW days I really liked that belt myself and always dreamed of holding it more than even the World Championship. A matter of fact, one of my favorite matches of all time was Raven vs DDP vs Chris Benoit for the US Championship at Uncencored '98.

If they actually took the WCW Tag Belts off Kronik and gave it to a cruiserweight team - then had other cruiserweights go after the belt, there would be no need to add another belt.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Smackdown tag titles turned into cruiserweight tag titles.

Man they can't sustain one set of tag belts properly, much less two. Restricting a tag belt to small guys would be ridiculous.

It'd mean shifting some heavyweight tag team wrestlers over to Raw, and I think both tag divisions would benefit. There's a vast amount of barely used cruiserweight talent on Smackdown.

I wouldn't mind it so much if the WWE Tag Titles became the ostensible Cruiser Tag Titles, as they often have seemed, but just carrying the name would diminish them IMO.

WCW TV(for the great matches)
WWF/E Hardcore(24/7)
WWF/E European(Al Snow as champion  )
I really loved the European Belt. It was nice having an entry level title that actually seemed hotly contested.

I know that this is about defunct titles, and not really belts, but:

This belt does not get enough play.

It gets no play because it might as well be a replica of that time periods WWF title belt.

Reminds me of how the old ECW TV belt had a stunning resemblance to the WWF Championship. :wtf:

Also anyone find it co-incidental that the old ECW Tag belts had a striking resemblance to the classic WWF Intercontinental Championship belt?

Next you'll be saying the first ECW Television Championship belt looked like the WWF Eagle Wing belt.
The ECW tag titles looked like the old WWF Intercontinental title in my opinoin. (The Mr. Perfect era)
