Smackdown spoilers from Providence

Real quick spoilers from Providence.

Dark Match:

Burchill d. Flash Funk

Smackdown:

Teddy Long came out. Announced Batista vs Undertaker rematch for Backlash.

Finlay vs Kennedy was a non match. Kennedy apologized to Finlay for what happened at Mania. Finlay accepted and agreed with Ken that there shouldnt be a match. Long came back out and said both would be fighting Undertaker and Batista in the main event.

London and Kendrick d. Duece and Domino via DQ. Pretty long match ending when D&D refuse to listen to the refs warning of double teams... thus a DQ. D&D were furious. They went into Long's office and questioned the officials decision but Long said they need to learn to abide by the rules.

MVP d. Chris Benoit (Non Title). A good 20 minute match back and fourth. Benoit missed a diving headbutt giving MVP the advantage. MVP wins with a roll up and using the ropes.

Kane d. Davari. Squash match. Regal and Taylor come out post match and work over Kane.

Batista and Undertaker d. Kennedy and Finlay. Pretty average match with Undertaker choke slamming Batista at the finish then Batista tagging himself in. Batista bomb on Kennedy 1-2-3. Taker & Batista teased turning on each other through out.

20 minute MVP/Benoit means I'm watching SD this week.

Hahahahaha! Kennedy and Finlay resolve their differences peacefully. That is classic. :D I'm actually looking forward to that segment.

I'm so glad they didn't take the WWE Tag Team Championship off Paul London & Brian Kendrick. They make excellent Champs. I guess this was a tryout match to see if Deuce N' Domino are deserving of their placement on the roster, and just how worthy they are. If the match is good, I hope it doesn't mean they'll take the belts off L&K. Hopefully they work some kind of gimmick match at Backlash, or something. A Steel Cage Match would be some genuine fun. L&K should keep the belts, though.

MVP and Chris Benoit go 20 minutes! YES! MVP will probably be the US Champion soon. Believe it or not, I actually don't think Porter should win the belt yet. He's earned it; he's proven himself. I just think that Benoit should keep it for a bit longer. Have Benoit win their US Title Match when he counters MVP's counter to the Diving Headbutt. Then have Paul Burchill win the US Title from Benoit, and have MVP and Benoit continue their feud away from the US Title.

I love William Regal and Dave Taylor. I'm glad they're making the shows, again. Hopefully they bring in Paul Burchill to take out Kane, then Regal, Taylor and Burchill end up feuding with London, Kendrick and Benoit. That would kick ass. Put the United States Championship on Burchill, and Hell, Regal & Taylor are actually a team worthy of dethroning London & Kendrick. A few Title swaps betweem them might benefit London & Kendrick a lot.

I know they like babyface Batista, but I think a full-on vicious heel turn would have been sweet here. Have him lay out Batista, and Finlay gets the pin. That way you can have Finlay challenge for the World Heavyweight Title at a later date. I'm sure he and Taker would have a good match, and Finlay can do the job, adding another name to Taker's list of vanquished foes.

Yeah, so how come WWE.com has "Undertaker and Batista to team up Friday?"

Yeah, it was a dark match.

They do, I was at the show. Their match against each other for the belt was a dark match after the show.

ROFL. See, I have this image of both men sipping tea while agreeing to disagree.

I hope SmackDown! offers forth the following matches for Backlash:

* The Undertaker vs. Batista in a Street Fight for the World Heavyweight Championship
* Chris Benoit vs. Montel Vontavious Porter for the WWE United States Championship
* Paul London & Brian Kendrick vs. Deuce N' Domino in a Steel Cage Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship

That's a lot of SmackDown! matches, granted, but I think it would be worth it. Add that to the following:

* John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton vs. Edge for the WWE Championship
* Bobby Lashley vs. Umaga, Vince McMahon and Shane McMahon for the ECW World Championship
* Melina vs. Mickie James for the WWE Women's Championship
* The Hardys vs. Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch for the World Tag Team Championship
* Rob Van Dam vs. CM Punk in a Steel Cage Match

Possible ninth match:

* Ric Flair vs. Carlito

You'd have a pretty awesome card. The only reason I suggest two Cage Matches, is because the cage seems to fit the direction both feuds are going in, and it takes the sails out of Lockdown. If the WWE is ever going to have two cage matches on one show (and we do know they like their "first-evers") I can see Backlash being it.

Going a bit insane with the gimmick matches, aren't we Alienoid?

This isn't TNA.

Yeah, I was thinking that when I wrote it. Maybe lose the cage for CM Punk and RVD, and just have Punk agree to meet RVD in a match man-to-man, then have the New Breed interfere and help Punk, which can set up a gimmick match between the sides later on.

I think The Undertaker and Batista should have a gimmick, just to take their capabilities to the next level. If Batista isn't going to turn heel (and it looks like he's not), they could at least use an environment where they can hit each other with things.

Why in the blue hell would you have the deciding fall on Kennedy and not Finlay?

For some reason the perfect logic in that statement makes me very sad.

Why not, it's not like he's in line for a title shot or anything.
