So I saw no thread for the latest game in this great franchise. BAM, one now.

Love this game. They took all the good stuff from Generals(like not having to build your buildings right on top of each other) and mixed it with good old C&C fun.

Now, when's Red Alert 3 coming out?

Yeah, way better then Generals. I like this game, but I don't play it much online because I suck.

I am considering getting this game, but I'm gonna wait to see if it's full of bugs.

I played Generals online to a reasonably competetive level (doing well in tournaments), but I refused to buy the expansion pack because the bug fixes for the original game were never released separately from it. So they forced people to buy the add-on to fix their game.

If their support is still terrible, I won't be buying Tiberium Wars.

There's not really a lot of bugs, but the third faction, the Scrin, are arguably unbalanced right now. You can crank out these big tripods fairly fast, and they tear through most units with ease. War of the Worlds style.

I'm definitely thinking about picking this up. Toss-up between C&C3 and Supreme Commander. SC looks intensely awesome, so I will have to deliberate some more.

SC is not for everyone. I think C&C3 is easier to get into, and has a better story. But SC is pretty fun, don't get me wrong.

Yeah, plus C&C3 has Lando in it.

I downloaded the demo for it (1.2gb download so it took a while) and thats pretty good. If it wasnt so expensive I probably go out and buy it.

The thing is it very similar to Tiberium Sun in many ways, but I like TS so Im not complaining :D Plus the ion cannon rocks big time!

Yeah, plus C&C3 has Lando in it.

:y:

SC needs a beast of a machine to run smooth even on the lowest settings.

'tis what I've been hearing. I really want to say here that Total Annihilation was a vastly under-rated game, but that'd be wrnog since it got tons of great reviews; in terms of "name power" though, Total Annihilation is incredibly overlooked (when looked at side-to-side against RTS powerhouses AoE, C&C, Star/Warcraft), and when I heard about Supreme Commander I nearly friggin killed myself. Thinking about getting a new PC solely to play that.

Now, to get back on topic; once I do attain said new PC I will definitely get C&C 3 as well. Was reading the unit info in IGN's preview prior to the release, and it looks like I'ma be lovin' me some GDI once again.

I'm more of a NOD guy myself. I have always loved building defense over offense when playing team games, and NOD has all those awesome turrets.

One game I played with friends was a 4v4 versus computers, and I decided I would do nothing but build obelisks (powered by beam cannons,) all game.

Anyway, this screenshot of the Structures tab post-game speaks for it self...

To be honest I kind of forget the main course of gameplay in C&C. I know in AoE there's a huge dependency on buildings and defenses, so that strategy (especially in team games) generally works pretty well. In the Starcraft and Warcraft games though, there's a much bigger emphasis on smaller packs of units, as the building defenses aren't anything more than a counter-rush strategy.

It's been so long since I've really played C&C (in any capacity) that I don't know where the general strategy lies in terms of units vs buildings for offense/defense

Almost anyone you play online, especially in a ranked game, will just rush you. I personally hate rushing and have a much better time playing with friends where we can set a limit on when we attack each other.

It sounds like carebear stuff, but I dunno, that's just me.

I used to hate rushing too (especially in WC3), but once you develop a strategy to fend off the beginning rush, it's essentially the same type of game as if there were no rush. ie start every game expecting to be rushed, and build adequate defenses/units, at the same time in the back of your mind plotting how YOU want to play the game. Dictate the pace, so then when the rush does come you're prepared, and then can either counter or continue teching as you normally would. You'd have the upper hand either way, as the other guy just spent a shitton of his crucial starting resources to try and finish you fast, while you still have the units/buildings you used to fend him off, plus the resources you saved by not having to build more to replace them.
