Okay, so apparently the Firefly Franchise recently beat out Star Wars as the number one Sci Fi movie of all time or whatever...Yet again.

I read a long time ago that Sci Fi (The channel) had bought not only the rights to air Firefly, but to a new series or movie, and had actually planned the latter. That last bit may be seculation instead of actual fact, I don't remember.

Anyway, why hasn't someone picked up on this series? It sold phenomenally on DVD, as did Serenity, and it seems to be a popular pick as well as a top pick financially.

It was pretty well done, thus leading to it's demise.

Not exactly the same thing, but kind of the gist of what you're saying.

I've yet to see Serenity, but I liked the series a lot when I borrowed the boxset from a friend.

Hopefully they will bring it back again.

I've been checking up on it regularly. Joss Weldon has stated chances are "slim to none" it will return.

Just found out that Nathon Fillon (Captian Malcom Reynolds) has a new show that starts today called Drive.

http://www.drivefans.com/

Drive is the new TV series which airs April 15th on FOX. The series is created by Tim Minear (Angel, Firefly, Wonderfalls) and Ben Queen (Century City), and producer credits additionally include Greg Yaitanes (director: Lost, Alias, House). It stars a large ensemble cast, including Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Serenity), Emma Stone (Malcolm in the Middle, Medium), Melanie Lynskey (Flags of our Fathers) and Kevin Alejandro (Sleeper Cell). It charts a mysterious cross country road race, in a fast paced, high action television series which looks and feels like nothing you've ever seen before. Who is running in the race, what are they hiding, why do they need to win, where does the race originate from -- and what lies at the finish line?

I really hope it returns at some point whether in series or movie but I dunno. Would love to hear Shephard's back story, I know Joss Whedon has said before that if it never returns he'll enlighten fans to that and a few other lose ends.

Did you guys ever read the "Serenity" comic? It was a one-off story bridging the gap between the Jubal Early incident and the events of the movie. Really well-written. I really wish the Browncoats would come back in some form or another, but I just don't think it ever will.

MAYBE a second movie, if Serenity can build a big enough cult following. But there will never be another TV show. The premium cable networks were idiots to not snap this up when Fox cancelled it. Can you imagine Firefly on Showtime with the freedom to let loose a little more?

I'll admit that I have, from time to time, used Serenity-speak in regular situations. When frustrated I occasionally will say "Gorrammit!" Not as bad as some of the nerds I see at work (when you work at the Star Wars attraction at Disney, you come to expect it), but still pretty bad.

Reavers are also possibly the most terrifying bad guys in any sci-fi series ever

Yeah, sorry I didn't post in the year old thread asking about the language used when they get mad. :p

I've been checking up on it regularly. Joss Weldon has stated chances are "slim to none" it will return.

Yes, and we know that. However, given the popularity, given that he was already ready to bring it back....

Just found out that Nathon Fillon (Captian Malcom Reynolds) has a new show that starts today called Drive.

They've been advertising the shit out of this show for months now.

I want to show to return....but because of the things that went down in Serenity, I dont want it to return...

The show just wouldnt be the same

It doesn't need to be the same, though. Even with most of the cast present, the movie wasn't the same as the series, and it was still flipping awesome.

I really hope it returns at some point whether in series or movie but I dunno. Would love to hear Shephard's back story, I know Joss Whedon has said before that if it never returns he'll enlighten fans to that and a few other lose ends.

One of the things I'd most want to see. :D

Reavers are also possibly the most terrifying bad guys in any sci-fi series ever

Quite possibly, since they're, you know...Human.

Naw. Could never find it.

I don't see where the "if" is.

The fact is, they top populariuty contests. They RULED the Amazon.com best sellers lists with both the series and the movie. That's not even a cult following. Hell, cult movies don't do that well.

Hell, most shows don't get brought back in ANY form. Farscape got it less because of popularity, and more because Sci Fi tossed fans a bone. And I doubt they'd even get that right now.

And Premium networks? Naw. UPN were idiots not to snatch it up.

Sci-Fi I believe does currently own any future rights to the property, so to sit on it...

Considering "Gol Rem" or however it's spelled, is REAL, given it's Chinese, it's not that bad.

On the other hand, the fact that you're quoting sci fi, period. ;)

Whedon is making another comic series... Whether it is a mini or an ongoing thing I don't remember. I also don't remember if it is supposed to be before or after the movie. I think it was before.

I guess he saw the success of the Buffy comic and thus, more Firefly/Serenity comics.

It was spelled "gorram" in the screenplay, comic, and closed-captioning on the movie and TV show. I just figured it was Whedon's take on frak.

Maybe. I was damn sure it was one of the lines taken directly from Mandarin.

Given that it's on Fox, and seems to have a pretty good pedigree as far as people involved, it'll last about 2 months.

Drive is interesting. I suspect this is what'll happen.

Intrigued by the premiere, I will catch it tonight, and find something good in it. Unsure, I'll continue to give it a chance.
I will watch for a couple weeks, getting more interested in that time.
Just when I really like the show, it'll be yanked.Ishould probably just beat the rush and stop watching now, but....

So I'm not liking Nathan's chances.
