Started watching this again last week and forgot how good it was, kinda kicked off HBO's run of signing up unbelievably good dramas which don't suffer from the usual drawbacks of American television, ie completely overstylised with terrible dialogue and too many good looking people.

And goddamn I love a liberal-soapbox drama:D

Any fans?

Yes, it is only the GREATEST SHOW OF ALL TIME, easily.

Most addicting show ever.

Dr Nathan would totally get it too.

Also, Adebisi ftw

Know their is a few fans on here, pretty sure Triple A was big into it. But yeah love the show, planned on starting to re watch it all soon, in fact season 1 and 2 are sitting on my desk right now. Will get around to it soon, most likely after I'm done/get bored of X-Files.
But yeah I'm a huge fan of the show, I mark out whenever I see anyone from OZ appear on something else.

Will be honest and say it did get worse as years went on for most part. First half of the series was brilliant then kind of went downhill. First half being before SPOILERS ************adebisi dies. **************

And I'll be honest I wanted to become Muslim because Kareem was so badass.

Well, there were only 6 seasons. Adebisi died in season 4 and I will agree that seasons 5 and 6 were weaker than usual but they were still mad good. But yeah seasons 1-4 = mindblowingly incredible TV.

Best show HBO has done. Ryan fucking O'Reily!

Just did a project on this for one of my TV classes. It made me sad how few people had even heard of it, let alone seen it.

Just reminded me that I did a project on it in High School. Like had to show a community in a film or something like that. Had to get special permission from teacher to do it cause you were supposed to play a clip from it. Also had to get my clip approved before hand cause he was really worried I'd show something bad. Was easiest project I ever did though as I just got up there and talked bout the show.

I think The Wire tops this just about for me but there's not a lot between them. Still insanely good tv, far better than pretty much anything else that has been produced before or since, such a shame its only HBO who bother putting money into these kinda uncompromising series.

I think FX has been doing some good shows as well. But if it wasn't for HBO I don't think FX would be doing the shows it has been doing. Shows like Shield, Rescue Me, etc.

As for Wire, currently downloading season 1, always heard great things but somehow never got around to it.

Seriously. OZ, The Wire, Rome, Deadwood, Carnivale are their greatest shows and they're all over! Except for The Wire, thank god. But I think season 5 will be the last.

Apparently season 5 will definitely be the last, but it'll be amazing, which is all that matters

The Wire is better than Oz you say?

I've actually heard a lot of amazing things about The Wire. Gonna get season 1 off Netflix now.

The Wire basically takes what Oz did to a whole 'nother level essentially portraying an entire city (Baltimore), its people and its institutions. First series mostly is set in the projects and the PD but over the 4 series it has widened beyond the cops/dealers to look at the docks, mayors office, schools etc and apparently season 5 will look at the media too. Its incredibly complex and quite slow moving but it all comes together beautifully over the course of each season.

The best part about Oz I think are all the different characters. That is what made it so great. Does The Wire have good characters?

Just popped in season 1 disc 1, the theme song alone gave me a hardon

Yeah the Wire has awesome characters just ask Boondock Saint over there:D

Weird thing about the Wire is the eps themselves have no score at all apart from during the final montage at the end of each season

But yeah it has the same stripped back feel of Oz, probably moreso because there are no flashbacks or explanations of previous events unless its relevent to the dialogue, pretty hard going sometimes but well worth it.

If either of these shows were women I'd want to do so many sexual things to them

I've heard The Wire is amazing, haven't watched it yet.

Oz was fucking awesome, however, it also ranks as having the WORST FUCKING SERIES FINALE EVER!!!

Seriously, the last episode was a fucking let down.

I agree the finale was a let down, but really I can't think of any good way to end it really with so many characters/story lines.

Danny Electric got me into OZ back in the day.

Love it! Shame it seemed to get pushed back and back on the UK TV schedules. At points I lost it completely.

Waited so long for the DVD release over here that by the time it came out I'd downloaded shitty versiosn from the net. Even so I bought it for future good times.:y:

Yeah I remember by season 3 it was on at like midnight, and that was on channel 4! Any other terrestrial channel or otherwise at the time probably wouldn't have even shown it though to be fair.

I used to watch OZ religiously at silly O'clock in the morning when it was on. Fucking incredible show.

I think i happened across it by accident when the first show was aired on chanel four, after that i tried to never miss an episode.

I agree that it did go down hill in the last two seasons. It was still head and shoulders above anything else on TV though.

Haven't even heard of the Wire, i might look it up:y:

Probabaly my favourite show ever.
I love looking back on it and seeing all the famous people that were in it.
