View Full Version : How much does a wrestler's backstage shenanigans affect your opinion of them?
Simple enough. On a scale of one to ten, one being the lowest/none, how much does a wrestler who politics and whatever backstage/in their personal life affect the way you think of the character and as a wrestle on a whole?

Personally I believe it depends on the shenanigans. For example when I heard CM Punk is a cock face back stage I stopped liking him (I only liked him because he was from Chicago anyway). But for example I could care less about RVD's smokin up backstage, because its RVD and he is excused end of story.
Some people's shenanigans just give us an excuse to hate them more.

Is one the least, or the most?
Because I'll go for the least. Maybe a littlemore than none, but I can hate someone for their backstage antics and love them onscreen. See: Triple H (When he's not being lazy or boring), JBL (PERIOD), Michaels (Doesn't seem to politic as much these days, always Amazing), etc.
Sure, I'll talk shit about them, but it doesn't mean I don't love them.
The major exception is Angle. What he's doing kind of transcends his personal life, as we're watching him self destruct, but it does involve his personal life. I don't think I'd mind so much if he wasn't blurring the lines.

It's weird, because I can love and hate some guys at the same time. Michaels for example: hate him for politicking and being a general bitch, but love his ring work.

I only watch them for entertainment purposes so I dont really care about their personalities or how they behave back stage.

I pretty much don't really care. I think JBL is a huge dick head, but I will watch him on tv if he's entertaining me.
So I kind of care, but that's because I hate selfish dickheads.

Honestly, if I like the wrestlers, I find more reasons to hate them in their backstage life. If I hate the wrestlers, I find more reasons to hate them due to their backstage life. So I guess like 50/50.

Okay, so some one being a dick is a problem, but someone breaking the law is no big deal? How the hell did you figure that one out?

Because breaking the law is cool...being a dick is not [/sarcasm]

Doesn't really affect my opinion at all. We watch the onscreen product and thats really all that matters, what goes on backstage has fuck all to do with anyone outside of the company.

For me, I think it depends on how talented they are in the ring. Take Michaels for example. Sure he was a real asshole back in the day backstage (maybe still is?) but when he goes out night after night and puts on ***** matches, I tend to feel that he's at least contributing something and not just being a selfish bitch. When guys who have minimal to no in-ring talent (like Hogan) politik or hold down talent for their own gain, it really makes me think less of them.

Around 6, if they entertain me I generally don't think about it

Really, I think it depends on how much they affect the actual product with their BS. Hogan and HHH damaged the watchability of the product by demanding they be the center of attention. JBL may be a dick, but he still puts on entertaining shows. Bob Holly doesn't affect the product much, but he doesn't add to it either.

I agree, as long as it isn't killing the on screen product and the quality of the promotion.
For example, I had problems with HHH in 03, and have always disliked Hogan for hanging around and draining life out of the business. Same with other instances.
However, as big of a prick Shawn was in his day I couldn't care less. Simply because he was on top and rightfully so, put on great matches and was the best guy in the company and the product was unaffected.
The only thing I would say about his attitude affecting the product was the lack of the WM13 Bret vs Shawn rematch and HBKs absence.
However, Austin vs Bret came out of that and I feel it ended up being the best thing for the product, as was the screwjob and HBK staying on top til 14.
So basically, as long as it's not killing the quality and/or future of the promotion, and everything is fine and dandy on screen I really couldn't care less for long.

Like I said, for the most part, I don't care. If someone is a huge ass cock, I won't want to support them. As long as someone isn't hurting the product, I won't really mind too much.

Well I'm gonna go break the law now because it's cool.
Ya know skippy, you'd hate me if ever saw each other. I don't break the law, but I'm an asshole.
