View Full Version : Best Wrestler Never to hold the IC Title...
Taking a spin off of the regular "Best wrestler to never win a world title" thread, who do you think was the best wrestler never to hold the (at least up until about 2001 or so) coveted Intercontinental Championship?
Keep in mind that this wrestler must have wrestled for WWF/E for at least a short period of time (doesn't count if they had one or two matches or a few dark matches). They can be former World Champions.

Was Rey ever an IC title holder? Even though the hatred the man carries don't think Hogan was ever IC champ either.

I'm guessing you are being sarcastic. Because you forgot Chyna <font color=black>and poland</font>

The attempted comedy was that Jericho Jarret Edge and RVD are the top 4 for most reigns.
And for the record, Chyna wasn't half bad. Sure she was a woman, but she was over as hell and compared to some of the garbage title holders she holds her own.

I'm dearly hoping I'm misunderstanding this statement and you didn't say they were the top 4 IC title reigns.

Top 4 for most reigns. Meaning, most times holding the belt
If you quoted it, you should have read it

Questions like "Who's the best wrestler never to wear the I-C title" makes me think of guys who acctually needed the belt, not guys who never needed the title and were vaulted past it straight to the heavyweight title. Everyone is saying names like Taker, Lesnar, Hogan, but those were guys who were top stars and never needed the belt. I'm thinking of guys who wrestled their ass off and were just never given that push towards the title. For me guys like Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson, Dean Malenko or Rey Mysterio

Mongo was never in WWF/WWE though. You can't be pissed that he never won a title in a fed he never worked for.
As for Misterio, he was the World champion. I don't know why several people are saying he wasn't, unless it's some kind of "satire".

I mean, he made a few appearances for them in 1995, but he never worked as a wrestler there.

Mongo would have been great as an IC champ. Worse wrestlers have been there, and allbeit he was never wrestling for the IC title, he was a<strike>n awesome</strike> wrestler who never had the IC title.

He was a terrible wrestler, and arguably the worst Horseman ever.
Sure, you can point at Paul Roma, or Sid, or Sting's flopped run.... nah, I'm sticking with Mongo as worst Horseman ever.

As far as guys who were dedicated midcarders and never had any real main event exposure, I'd say IRS.
As far as guys who wavered between the midcard and the main event and never had any real singles gold, Ted DiBiase.
As far as WWF/WWE/World Champions who just never held the IC title, Undertaker.

I don't get why Undertaker should have ever held the IC Belt, first of all, it NEVER would have fit his character to be the place holder for the #2 position. Either he was off doing his evil dead thing, or he was running ship and holding the big one. He would seem so out of place holding the IC Belt. I thought it was strange enough with him holding the Hardcore Title, but even there, that was just an excuse to let him do whatever the hell he wanted with no rules.

Totally agree, there was never a reason for Taker to have had the IC belt. All that would have done would have been to necessitate his losing it somehow. However, his is still a great wrestler to have never held it.

lex luger could have got the IC title after his aborted world title push.
Another one that comes to mind is Kane. I don't think he ever held the IC title did he?
Jeritron
04-23-2007, 11:16 PM
He did. And it wasn't really fitting. A guy like Kane or Taker isn't IC material.
I realize I said Taker, but I was taking the question at face value, and not weighing in the factors of how appropriate they are for the belt, what it would have done for them holding it, and what it would have done for the belt.
I still maintain probably Tazz in 2000. Dibiase (like Piper) should have been World Champ, not IC, even though unlike Piper he never was. Rey Mysterio should hold the IC belt and probably will. CM Punk as well.
I agree with Tully Blanchard.
